I'm quite pleased with how one controller can control up to 20 units.  That's one network connection, instead of 20.

However the "you have to have your own usb-c power source for it" is dorky imho!!

Does someone out there have a power source that can run off of, say, a spare pci-x cable from a psu? Smiley

If not, what would you recommend for a reliable power source?  I have an old charger for an iphone that I'm using for one of my controllers, but I require another one.

first off don't run 20x units off 1 rasp pi.

get 2 rasp pi.  run 10x off each one.

What's wrong with using 20 on one controller?  Isn't that what Canaan says you can do?

okay 4 usb cables out  mean 4 auc3's  in theory 5  miners per auc3  so 5 x 4 = 20

a few guys with bigger setups  do  4 auc3's  3 miners per auc3  so 3 x 4 = 12

in pm talks with people running 100 to 200 miners  they  have both told me   12 per unit   hash rate is a bit higher per miner  and up time  is better.

I suppose  that the controller runs to the lowest miner   on each chain  so you can have more ability to sort the lower miners on 2 rasp pi's  of 10-12 miners  then  1 rasp pi of 20 miners.

1 rasp pi  gives you only 4 chains  of 5   adding to 20
2 rasp pi gives you  8 chains of 2 and 3  adding to 20

down time issues  1 rasp pi dies  20 units  go dead.

1 of 2 rasp pi die  you can link to  the other rasp pi.

I suppose  if you go to a 1000 miners  the rasp pi cost  is more.

but at the 100-200 level

maybe  10 rasp pi  vs 20 rasp pi   is 700 vs 1400  maybe even 600 vs 1200 if you build your own rasp pi

If I had 200  avalon 741 set up    I would have  maybe 20 rasp pi  not 10.  Since 200 avalon 741 = 160,000  I would spend the extra   600 or  700  for more controllers.

I have no where near that.  so it is easy for me to use extra controllers.

It also allow me to mine  BCC/BCH on one controller and BTC on the other one.

Running 20 off one controller, if your controller bricks you've lost your whole mine. If you run 10 each off two controllers, if one bricks you can put them all on the working controller and keep hashing while fetching a replacement. Something something "eggs in one basket".

Got it - will upgrade to the Anker. I only  have one AUC3 with 4 on mine, so far its worked great.

I was thinking the same thing! It'd be awesome to power a Pi with a PCIe - MicroUSB connector.
