I currently have 2 miners, 1 using 1400 watt PS and 1 using 1000 watt PS. I live in an apartment and when I place the 2 miners on the same breaker, I trip it. I have 2 more miners slated to come online in the next week and was wondering what I could do for power? I don't have any clue on power usage, wattage, etc needed or jargon so please dumb it down a little for me. Smiley

Buy a gasoline powered generator and put it out on your balcony.

or

Rip out sheetrock exposing your neighbor's outlets and tap in.

Dont recommend this as it will put your ass in jail, however i love the idea of it! I have contemplated doing this, however the reward totally is not worht it considering the neighbors will see a nice spike in power bills and start to get concerned.....Though the idea continues to go through my head every minute.

So, if I'm at my max on the current 2 breakers for the existing miners, what can I do for the incoming miners?

try getting the k-watt-meter and doing a small underclock set the volts at 1.050  for core  and 1.550  for ram  lower the core to 940- 970 the ram to 1375-1400 (if you have  a hd7970)  keep looking at the k-watt-meter to see if you get low enough to add another miner.

I'm assuming all this is done in the BIOS? If not, where would I do this? I'm using all ASUS r9 280x for GPUs.

you should have an asus tweak cd/dvd  and it has an over under clocking program.

But I have 1 asus myself and it does not let me do under clocking with msi afterburning.
it did let me do a very little underclock with the asus tweak utility.
Asus are not so good for underclocking (at least I am not that good at doing it.)

it is a shit load of trail and error.  and you may not be able to run the next miner no matter had much you tweak.

then:

(find a trusted friend's house)  or  ask here on site if someone can host.   sebdude has hosted in his pc shop  he is in CA.

I am in New Jersey, but I am adding a fourth pc today I don't think I could host one for you.

okay first off what country?

second what miners?

do you mine with gpu's?

next how many breakers does your apartment have?

1. USA
2. 2 scrypt based miners with 3 GPU's in each. The new miners will be another scrypt based miner with 4 GPU and 1 ASIC.
3. I'm not sure about the breakers, but I have one panel. When I trip the breaker, my computer room, living room and kitchen go out with my other 2 bedrooms still live. I moved the 2nd miner to my bedroom for now and everything stays on. With that information, do I have 2 breakers?

Thank you for your help philipma1957!

yes at least 2 breakers please buy a k-watt-meter

http://www.amazon.com/P3-International-P4400-Electricity-Monitor/dp/B00009MDBU/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1390151781&sr=1-1&keywords=kill-a-watt

you can figure out just how much you pull from the wall.

I have 3 pc's running lite coins  I under clock them just a bit. it helps keep over pulling watts  on the power.

I use msi afterburner to control clocks .

 my 7970's  are 1.050 volts / 950 core     and  1.550 volts /1400 ram

I lose a bit of kh's but they run cooler and pull lower power.
Setting clocks a little lower may help the watts pulled a lot.  you can tell by the k-watt-meter.  I lose about 5% in kh's and save 15% in power.  but with lite coin you can't until you try.

 also answer questions below.

  suggestions are as follows

I assume you are usa.

Most breakers are 15 amps and 110/120 volts  that can run    15 x 120 x .80  or  about 1440 watts safely for 24/7/365

so  if you have a 1400 watter that is 1 breaker stand alone for that unit.

you have a 1000 watter in needs a second breaker if the one you have coming in is a 1000 watter and the 2 add up to 2000 watts they may or may not overload your second breaker.  as maybe they pull  700 of the 1000 watts which would be 700 + 700 = 1400 just under the safe number.

but the 1400 + the 1000 maybe be 1050 plus 700 = 1750 too high.

buy  a kill-a-watt meter cost is 20 bucks at amazon
