Ok, I have now toasted two 1000W, one 900W and two 850W psu's.  I have a wide variety of cards all r9 variety 270 to 290x.  My Killawatt meter should be here today, so any proceedures for setup to make sure I am safely using the max capacity of each psu is very welcomed.

last psu that was toasted:  850W (46A on one 12V rail) so 552W on the 12V.  the only thing connected to this PSU two GPU : Asus R9 270 and MSI R9 270.  Both of these cards were running stock bios/voltage.  I thought I was only using about 65% of capacity.  can someone explain/guess the mistake I made?  Thanks!
