If your goal is to profit and save power then NO, there is no getting around the fact that you need to power all your cards.
If your goal is to have a cleaner build / mining rig then you can use motherboards that already have multiple PCIE lanes built in. Google the "ONDA 2500 motherboard"

Of cource all cards will be connected with risers, where avialable extended power line.
I dont know motherboards with many pci-ex x16 slots

1 BIG CAVEAT about "powerless" cards - they obviously draw their power from the motherboard and 1 will run fine playing games and mining on a motherboard. If you fill up a motherboard with 2 or more of these cards and really load up the card while mining you can easily burn out your motherboard and possibly your card with it as well. You need powered risers if you're doing multiples of a card.

Put 6 1050Tis onto a board with unpowered ribbon risers and the board cannot support 6 x 75 = 450 Watts through the PCIe lanes.

The reason I bring this up is every year we have people who post pics of their burned boards who were trying to do a "powerless" build. Search the forms.

For Ethash

RX570 : 27 MH/s : 120W
RX580 : 30 MH/s : 135W
Vega56 : 36.5 MH/s : 210W
GTX1060 : 20 MH/s : 95W
GTX1070 : 30 MH/s : 120W

Maybe GTX series have lower consumption

I mining Ethash algo with 5*RX570 have 925W Power Wall ( include system )

Are there any "powerless" (draw power from mobo only, not psu) GPUs that are worth mining with?

Any reason why you don't want to consider cards that require supplementary 6 or 8 pin power? I would think most limitations (such as the lack of the necessary connectors or other PSU-related constraints) could be solved easily.

I was looking through mining hardware on Amazon and saw a pic in someone's review of a mining rig that had 6 or 8 cards with no PSU connectors. There was a stack of boxes in the pic with AMD RX GPUs but I couldn't see the model due to the size of the pic. There was just something about the simplicity of the rig that appealed to me and wanted to figure out what he was using.

Of course you are correct regarding the supplementary power connectors. I just figured maybe the GPUs that don't require them may be more efficient and less expensive. Figured there was something I was missing going on there.

1050ti is the newest card that has models that don't need power connectors.
