The explosion is going to have long lasting effects in the economy of Lebanon, let's suppose that you are interested in investing in the country are you going to do it after what happened? Do you really trust in the government when it is clear as day that a huge level of corruption has taken over it? There is probably going to be social instability because of it and when you add all of that this means that not only a lot of people lost their jobs and their homes probably very little money will come to the country during the next years.
The answer would be obvious, it's a no.

How can someone invest in a country where the government would be the only one who will benefit from the invested money instead of making a move for the growth of their economy.
Especially in this crisis that they are facing, we can see how worse it is. Even the people, suggested that if the other countries want to donate, do not trust the donation to the government, it should be directed to the affected people.
While I will encourage anyone that has enough money to spare to help people directly and to never relinquish the control of the help they are trying to give to the government, we know as a fact that governments do not like this, they use the excuse that they are the ones that know who needs that help the most and they try to control the aid that way, but we know the truth there have been many instances of international help being sent and then that help never gets to the hands that really needs it and the government keeps that help for themselves or they sell it on the black markets.

First I would like to say that none of us are wishing for such a thing to happen, but yes we always have to take precautions.
But, do people really store their keys in a roof? have you seen how that explosion cleared out the whole buildings?

I felt sorry for those people because they have been going through difficulties, this explosion displacing over 300,000 people means that it would add to the number of people that are going through such difficulties. But, apart from storing your keys in a safe or similar ways, there are many other ways that you can do these things and be safe no matter what happens.

The fact that we really don't know what tomorrow may bring. Rich and poor, boy or girl, young or adult everyone is affected in a moment. Very horrible tragedy in Lebanon. Covid 19 is not yet end but there is another one that caused too much pain to those affected specially those people that lost their loved ones on that tragedy. Not only the people were affected too much but also the economic situation of Lebanon are now getting more worst.
Let us help them through prayer that they will become more stronger this time and they can recover fast.

The incident in Lebanon was really a tragic one and another suffering for the people living in there because such incident have happened while the pandemic is still on which is a double decker suffering due to health threat because of the virus and at the same time problem on where do this people will live when their houses and livelihoods are affected by the blast brought by the explosion.

This year have been a massive tragedy for each and everyone of us for different countries are also suffering from different calamities brought by natural disasters and the health threat which is the pandemic that we are all facing through right now. Prayers are really one of the greatest offering and weapon that we can offer at this time of crisis. May this be the last tragic event in Lebanon to happen for this year for we are already been drained by the situation and all of us are exhausted on seeking survival fighting back against the covid-19 pandemic.

This tragic event will surely have an additional impact on how the country and the people of Lebanon will rise up their economy but hopefully they can surpass this challenge and let our prayers guide them all throughout their journey.

I wonder their government has been doing about the explosion. I read from the news that sixteen were detained and being questioned because of the explosion, so have they figured what caused the explosion yet? And things got really sad when I got to know that more people were found dead as the citizens dig through debris. 2020 has been something else, a lot of things has been happening since this year, just when I thought that 2019 was the worst year ever, then we got into 2020 and it’s the worst. I pray that these things that has been happening comes to an end and the world gets better. I so much hate to see bad news when I’m surfing the internet.

A lots of unexpected incidents aside from this explosions, moving to your question, it interest me to know whether this just an accident
or someone planned it up causing the death of many people and really damaged the city.
If ever something comes up and turned that there's group behind this, the sad thing to think about is if there's another one to expect
hopefully it won't be permitted let those innocent people be save from whoever did this to their country.
Only the time can tell if what will tomorrow brings, a joining prayers to let God's mercy to save not just the people from Lebanon but the
entire world who still suffering from this pandemic virus and other burden in life.

Its really hard for Lebanon to face this kind of tragic explosion in the middle of covid-19 battle. My prayers are with them to survive and rise up after this terrible blast off. Its good to know that despite of this pandemic, where the whole world is struggling, still a lot of kindhearted countries sent help and aid to Lebanon. Indeed, this pandemic is not a hindrance to reach out each countries that really needed help. For sure, i know Lebanese people will get through this and their economy will rise again.

Agree, incidents like this have a huge effect on the economy and It's really hard to recover from it. It will cause a lot in the national economy and it will have an impact also in production efficiency. The current pandemic is already a burden to its economic growth, what more to a situation like this.

I hope all of those people who are affected recover from it and build again their nation.

I believe there wasn't really a bad intention going around, if it was bad intentions nobody would have done it this obviously, there was stuff contained in there all together and we have seen pictures of it and that had some chemicals in it that could cause a big explosion in itself and we are talking about many of it all stored inside one warehouse, nobody who has ill intentions would do that hoping that nobody notices, the sad thing is this wasn't ill intended this was just a bad management who has put it there and just didn't consider the fact that what is inside could be explosive and just kept it there until it exploded.

I have checked the pictures of the aftermath and I feel like number of death that is reported sounds like could be going up soon with how there is too many injured right now, hopefully all would recover but looks like that number will go up.

The worst thing about this is that the cases of covid in Lebanon is increasing because of this explosion. Huge number of people are homeless and vulnerable to the pandemic that is happening. Their cases just spiked after that, this will be a huge effect on the economy and very traumatic for those people.

That was seriously unexpected and terrifying that such event have happened while the world is still facing a serious threat on health concerns. It really feels sad that while many people are still in concern of their health to fight back against Coronavirus pandemic, the people in Lebanon are bringing a big loads of suffering on how their lives could be turned back to normal when their properties and livelihoods are all destructed by the blast that have killed many people and wounded many individuals as well.

The people in Lebanon have double sufferings at this moment that both concerns their life and health for where they will live at these days because their houses are destructed plus there is still a present threat concerning health because of the covid-19 pandemic. What we can do now is to give out our prayers and full sympathy to the affected individuals by that deadly blasting in Lebanon. May that happening be the last terrifying event this year for we cannot take furthermore damage at this time.

I tend to agree with you there, though as I stated in another thread I'm not sure how dense the population was in that area at the time of the explosion.  Four thousand wounded sounds about right, but less than 100 dead?  I find that a little hard to believe.

This is what I've been thinking too! The first time I saw a video I didn't even believe it. Thought it was an old vid but I decided to search for it then I saw overflowing news from 20 minutes ago and its true. I just thought damn, thousands will be dead, a whole building just exploded and videos even from afar took a lot of damage.
-snip

seeing that there was only a fire before the explosion, it is possible that people in the nearby area have already been evacuated or at least have been warned about the possible danger, drastically reducing the possible death from the explosion. most of the damage in the nearby area were done by the shockwave(basing what I saw on the videos) and not the explosion itself. also, the death toll is rising day by day and I expect it to increase in following days(I hope I am wrong though)

Not only in Lebanon, lot of countries also stored their seized product like this on their ports for years because of lazy government officials and not having proper guidance from the administrative officials. Now lot of countries are evacuating their ammonium nitrate from their ports silently. I believe that everything that happened in Beirut is to blame for the government, which was pursuing very bad policies. That is why the head of state refused to help the leaders of other countries in the investigation of the tragedy. It seems to me that the real facts of the reasons for what happened, as well as the culprits, will be hidden from the world community. But one way or another, the mediocre government of Lebanon and the leadership of Beirut, by their actions, destroyed an economically important city for the entire country, all infrastructure and a large number of people, although the exact numbers are still unknown.

Woke up and saw vids of explosions about Lebanon here and there. Had to look up what happened and sadly, there wasn't really any news about how the explosion came about, one's that was sure of what happened. It is a pity though, with how all countries are experiencing difficulties, this happened on top of that.
I tend to believe that due to its longer storage time in that warehouse, that explosive material may have been decomposing for a while which may have resulted into producing chemical reactions that could be more explosive especially if it were exposed to fire or heat.

Normally, a newly manufactured ammonium nitrate won't explode even if its thrown to a fire itself not unless it its mixed with other substances like fuel oil, etc, or be used with a detonator.

So I think this is not a terrorist attack, rather its the result of poor handling and negligence among Lebanese authorities. Imho.
It is odd how they didn't properly handle it though, considering they know the materials that were stored in there, especially since it was in the middle of civilization. Plus, considering the explosion that happened, it wasn't just a few materials out there, there were enough to even label it to something like what terrorists use when bombing, or even worse. Even if we do consider that the pandemic hit them hard, it still isn't an excuse for them to leave dangerous materials hanging there without any proper procedures of disposal for them.

And also another rumor spreads that it is a terrorist attack, any opinion about this?

I think people should slow down with speculations about terrorism or Israel attack. It's a tragic event, many people have died and been injured, the damage is devastating. There is no need to invent more stuff to make the news more "spicy", at least not until investigation uncovers something else.
Negative rumors like this should not be tolerated as it won't help the situation at all but will only cause negative effects to the people especially those who have been injured or even died in this accident. My deepest sympathy to those who have lost their loved ones and hopefully those who are responsible for this tragic accident should be given proper sanctions.

If they were in crisis, now they are in terrible position.

Coincidence or not something smells very strange.
Seriously with the news you shared? Wth, Im not a pessimistic guy but the way it happened doesnt sound coincidence anymore.

Too much for a conspiracy theory, but If someone created a thread over that topic might be a good debatable but must be on Politics Board. But thanks for sharing though!

There will always be some people who will associate this incident with a theory conspiration behind it. I think for a heartbreaking disaster like this we shouldn't focus on negative thought

Seems I tried to be positive but some users here tend to pulled some news related but anyway, like everyone said we must not focus on the negative side but hope for those been affected.

It gives me a chill when I watched the videos about what happened in Lebanon the blast are so massive where the whole city heard and felt the aura of the explosion. I saw a lot of insensitive videos about dead people around the cities. It is really a sad news because we are still facing a pandemic and this massive explosion happened Sad. That explosion happened in a big city where it can affect the world economy and not only the economy of their nation. Lebanese are really good persons, I want to give sympathy for those people who are affected especially for the person who lose their special someone because of the explosion.

Ongoing year is a big game changer in everyone's life. No one could've thought such a situation as now prevails around the globe. This has been taken as a learning by people around, with every incident humanity is growing. Another thing, governments were also turning themselves to be more responsible than being corrupt. With the recent explosion in Lebanon every country has woken. In my country the government has begun taking necessary steps to keep things safe on the warehouse for explosives.

Though ammonium nitrate is not as explosive as the usual bombs and it is not easy to detonate (AFAIK) but I think it is not enough proof to justify that everything was planned or somebody light it up intentionally. Hmm It just so happened that warehouse contain plenty supply of it (maybe used for fertilizing the soil) that's why it resulted to a huge explosion.

Most probably, the intensity of the explosion made the conspiracy theorists lead them to a conclusion that terrorism is the reason behind this tragedy. Well, I can't blame them to think that way because witnessing a huge mushroom cloud could really lose your mind either. I know we can't control the curious minds of other people so the least thing we can do to stop the negativity is to ignore them. But why they can't understand that it was just an accident tsk Undecided?

Discussing something that happens in Lebanon will always be linked to Israel, and vice versa. This is no longer an ideological war but a war of beliefs and many elements of conflict between Muslims and Jews. Both countries should realize that whatever happens in reality Israel cannot eliminate Lebanon and vice versa. Both exist in the world. War only adds to the suffering of each party, but because it involves the beliefs and conflicts of Israel and Lebanon ingrained in history written, both parties have different glasses in this conflict with the justification and legitimacy of religious defense.

There will always be some people who will associate this incident with a theory conspiration behind it. I think for a heartbreaking disaster like this we shouldn't focus on negative thought and it is better praying for the people who suffered during the accident or help them by sending a donation or something that can be useful for them.

The explosion itself is horrible but the whole economical and political situation in Lebanon looks dire. The Lebanese pound lost about 70% of its value against the US dollar and the national debt is enormous. A national bankruptcy is looming. Besides this, there is also an energy crisis.
I don't follow world news much, so thank you for that summary--I didn't realize things in Lebanon were so bad, and this explosion couldn't come at a worse time.

2020 is a year that will be remembered by the whole world because of the various disaster that have occurred.
No kidding.  The effects of this explosion are relatively local, but there has been so much shit going on in 2020 that every day I get the feeling that the world has been turned on its ear.  This is a bitcoin forum and I'm happy bitcoin is doing well in the face of all this horrible stuff that's happening, but man....I just hope 2021 is a better year for all of us, all around.

Also I find hard to believe the body count that officials are giving, it doesn't seem possible to me that such a huge explosion that has left hundreds of thousands without a home has produced a number of victims that is so low.
I tend to agree with you there, though as I stated in another thread I'm not sure how dense the population was in that area at the time of the explosion.  Four thousand wounded sounds about right, but less than 100 dead?  I find that a little hard to believe.

Damn Sad Sad this is very bad. I saw the news yesterday, and I was seeing people posting the videos of the explosion on Instagram and Twitter, it looks scary to be sincere. It’s really a sad event, and before now a lot of people have been complaining about how bad the economy and the government is, and then this one happened. I can’t imagine how worse things are going to get from here, although I hope it doesn’t.

The first time I saw the video they said it was a natural disaster, but I didn’t believe it, that led to me doing some research to understand what was behind it, but the news I’ve seen so far were all referring to fireworks just like you have said here. I hope they find out what really triggered the explosion. If people are behind this, they need to be charged and punished heavily.

I just happened to see the news about the explosion on Lebanon. This is really bad for their country especially in this time around which pandemic is having a serious threat to humanity. Their Economics will surely in vain after this tragedy, I do wish that they'll get through all this, I recently posted on how bad it was on our Country but seeing this now, I really feel bad...

It is really terrifying, a total and literal wipe out.
I remember watching the footage and being completely shocked at what happened, I'm pretty sure that if there is a real investigation about this case that corruption is going to be found because I find really weird that material that can cause such a tragedy was allowed to be stored there for six years, why was that material there for six years? Also I find hard to believe the body count that officials are giving, it doesn't seem possible to me that such a huge explosion that has left hundreds of thousands without a home has produced a number of victims that is so low.

I have watched a video of this incident and am really sorry for Lebanon. It was an unexpected and unintentional incident that led to the economic crisis in their country. It seems that 2020 is a bloody year for businesses in many countries. This will have many consequences for the economy which is difficult to recover. Hopefully the Covid 19 epidemic will not erupt in their home country, things have been so bad so far.

What is happening in the world right now? Seems like the year 2020 devastated the entire world. We don`t yet done in COVID-19 pandemic and here it comes another one. Sadly to say that 2 of my countrymen died in Lebanon, we all need right now is praying for the safeness of everyone.

The crisis has begun, Lebanon produces also oil and I think it is not an accident only. There is always a hidden plan for that incident. When I saw the video, it just like seeing a movie happening in reality.

I hope someday the world will heal and we will surpass the catastrophe happening in the world.
I guess it's safe to say that we've all been scammed by 2020. I was one of those people who hoped that 2020 would be the best year but I guess that was just an expectation.

Lebanon is not exempted from experiencing this pandemic. Their hospitals are also struggling  to contain corona virus, then they have frequent power outages, then this explosion. I also feel terrible for them especially when I knew that there were fellow countrymen who died and was injured in the incident. I just hope they'll get back on their feet with all of the things going on in their country right now.

2020 really has no chill huh? I wonder how devastating this tragedy would be on their economy especially in this time of Pandemic, where a lot of nation are suffering an economic loss.

although I agree, there's really nothing we can do about people making assumptions and spreading rumours about what really happened. also, visiting politics&society board they have pretty much concluded what "really happened" with their assumptions especially the members who are frequent about conspiracy theory.
I would assume that Israel or any other attack thing would be basically useless, I mean what would be earned if Lebanon got destroyed, lets say you destroy all of Lebanon and not just Beirut and there is nothing left of that whole nation, who gains what exactly?

I have been friends with a lot of Lebanese people and I could tell you that they are really awesome people as well, I personally can't talk about other Arabic nations since they do have a lot of human right violations in those places and sometimes a bit backwards but Lebanon is not like that, it is definitely as developed as any other European nation, I hope they will get better very quickly, I can't really say that I could do anything myself personally but I will be praying for them and pray for them to get back on their feet quickly.

Of course I will pray for Lebanon, the explosion incident in Beirut was a terrible tragedy and all countries are feel sorry.
This will paralyze the Lebanon economy, even though the spread of the corona virus there also cannot be resolved. And It's
actually dangerous is the effect of the explosion, the air is contaminated by dangerous chemicals. Therefore the residents of
Beirut for the next few weeks, must be at home to avoid breathing contaminated air.

But why they can't understand that it was just an accident tsk Undecided?

This is a tragic event, and yet another example of how troubled countries can experience calamity after calamity. Lebanon suffers through being part of an unstable region, there was the seemingly endless civil war, and the economy was at breaking point even before CV19 hit. Now, as well as a failing economy and the pandemic, we have this explosion. People are focusing on the toll of the dead and injured, but this is only the short term effect. There will I'd imagine now be huge numbers of newly homeless people, to couple with the fact that this explosion was at the huge grain silo... so it's devastated the food supply, too, as well as (with no grain silo) the capability to store new incoming food. You couldn't really imagine a worse confluence of negative factors. The country will be in desperate need of aid from other nations - just at the exact same time that these nations are themselves struggling.

Unfortunately, I think it will get worse for the people of Lebanon. I really hope that other countries come together to assist here. We are all people irrespective of nation.

I also agree that the cause of the great explosion could be due to the ammonium nitrate that was in the warehouses of that place.
The explosion caused a crater that has a radius of 70 meters, as shown by these images in this tweet.
Lebanon needs help and our prayers because of the economic potential that Beirut offeres to the country.

2020 really has no chill huh? I wonder how devastating this tragedy would be on their economy especially in this time of Pandemic, where a lot of nation are suffering an economic loss.

I think people should slow down with speculations about terrorism or Israel attack. It's a tragic event, many people have died and been injured, the damage is devastating. There is no need to invent more stuff to make the news more "spicy", at least not until investigation uncovers something else.

although I agree, there's really nothing we can do about people making assumptions and spreading rumours about what really happened. also, visiting politics&society board they have pretty much concluded what "really happened" with their assumptions especially the members who are frequent about conspiracy theory.

2020 has not been good to most of us, there had been a lot of tragedy, wildfires, pandemic, and now the explosion of Lebanon. The damage done by the explosion is really devastating, it's not just the properties but the lives and fear that this had brought. This is a really difficult time for Lebanon, not just the threat of explosion, but also them being exposed to the virus since most people had lost their home.

Let's pray for Lebanon and everybody else for us to be safe until the end of the year. And let's hope that no other catastrophe will occur.

2020 will be a very sad year for many people, global economic crisis because pandemic a couple countries is already in a recession stage and there is prediction of depression means that there will be a worse possibility happen.
When I saw the video of the big explosion in the Beirut I just thought people there face more tough life, and now the Lebanese government will have more and more difficulties in being able to restore the condition of their country, other countries must immediately to help.
There is a lot of speculation about what happened in Beirut but it would be wise not to share news that have not been confirmed the truth.
2020 is a year that will be remembered by the whole world because of the various disaster that have occurred. The most recent being Lebanon, the explosion shocked everyone because it was as powerful as a nuclear explosion.

Indeed, I also read a lot of news related to the Explosion in Lebanon. There has been much speculation that this explosion had something to do with other countries. But until now, investigation are continuing and hopefully with this incident Lebanon will be better at improving the safety of chemical storage.

This is just sad.

A lot of things are happening in this year and this just makes things worst. Just imagine having a pandemic and this happened. Lebanon's covid cases are increasing in days before this happened, those people affected by that explosion have it rough right now.

As far as I know 2 of my countrymen whose working here was killed by this explosion. Lets just pray for them.

Yes, I always pray for this world's crisis to be over and now includes Lebanon in my deep prayer. It was so devastating for them to fight Covid-19 and this tragic explosion. Crisis within a crisis as it may seems, and for sure it would pull down the economy more. However, I'm pretty sure that they will soon recover as long as the Government handle this severe crisis carefully and more wisely and with the help of course of different rich countries all over the world, they will restore their losses except the lives of the people.

I saw this on a forwarded 36 second video made from one of the building tops. Initially, it looked like some kind of substation facility with some large transformer on fire with bellowing smoke. In the video, sparks really started to fly towards the end and it was a massive, powerful explosion that looked inexplicable.

It was later on Google that i found out that the "authorities" had been using the depot to store seized ammonium nitrate under less than ideal conditions. Such laxity by Govt officials has become a trademark of developing countries throughout the world. Industrial accidents are commonplace. In the US or Developed west, such incidents spark outrage resulting in series of hearings, reports, corrective measures and changes to SOPs. In developing countries, the know-how and standards are imported Govt staff trained through expensive foreign trips. These people rarely pass on the knowledge down the line and SOPs are never put into place, or followed. Hence, Industrial gas leaks, Boiler explosions, Crane crashes, flyover collapses and criminally careless storage keep leading to loss of lives.

May those souls NOT rest in peace and forever haunt those responsible for such accidents. Till such time that they accept culpability, beg forgiveness and force changes so that such things never occur. As far as economic crisis is concerned, well, i don't think a country's economy would falter because of an accident. People will mourn, rebuild and go on. It is up to the Lebanese people and international community to keep focus on this and ask for criminal prosecution of the whole chain of command involved.

I saw this is in the news about a blast and i thought it was a terrorist attack and i really never understood these extreme measures for decades and i ignored as i do not want to see the gore but in this case it was unsafe storage of chemicals which is not acceptable at any cost and around 80 people lost their life because of someone else's horrific decision and how many families will be affected is beyond comprehension.

At first, I also thought that this was a terrorist attack something related between a war in the Middle East, but as I soon seek some information in the internet, it was really an accident.

People are living a peaceful live in this community when this tragedy is not yet happening.

But what can we do if this is a humanity's mistake to not safely store the chemicals that really caused an explosion?

It is just so sad to think about the situation of those poor people or people in a lower class to suffer in this worse events. But then, I'm hoping for more power to Lebanese people who are struggling so hard to recover from all the damages that the explosion brought to them, and also to the necessities that they need to have during this quarantine.

Agree, with cases of covid19, I think terrorists groups will be so busy dealing with their own health precaution. People should really think of it as a tragic accident which falls on the owner of the said establishment containing tons of ammonium nitrate.

To be honest Im still in shock seeing my newsfeed on Facebook as the topic is everything about Lebanon incident. I do wish forum users maybe through known Charity groups here on forum like @cabalism13, @Royse777, @Irfan_pak10 and others could extend a help through anything thay could support the affected people on Lebanon. Still in shock mode, why why why this happened.

We can't blame other to think about terrorism since the explosion is so huge and the shockwave is so devastating that's why many people can't believe that its a accident. 2020 is so heavy year for all of us to many disaster and tragic incident happen hopefully all of us can go out of this and I believe the happy and peaceful days will come.

The problem is, when even Trump starts speculating about an "attack" or "bomb" you can't really blame people for not knowing anymore what to believe. Looking at the footages of the explosion where you can see a fire (with some kind of firework noise?) before the detonation, the official explanation that states that 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate exploded makes the most sense to me.

I was extremely shaken by this news about the Beirut, Lebanon explosion. It was a total chaos for the affected Lebanese people and can't imagine them being so terrified with the explosion amidst of this covid-19 Pandemic. And the thoughts that only the locals were affected, it broke my heart to know that I have 2 fellow Filipino working there as domestic helpers, and was being dead and their families here now are mourning.
Seems like a double war for Lebanon, this trials that they are facing might affect more in their economy. But, I still believe that they will make it through...they've been into several wars, terrorists attacks before and they surpassed it. For sure now, they will be able to make it as well as the covid cases in their country and the whole world as well. There's always a sunshine after the rain, as the saying goes. This all shall passed, it may take long but with strong faith and prayers, It will be over. Stay strong, Lebanon....You are in my Prayers 💕

Their Governor didn't help himself but to cry onto what happened in Beirut today.
Investigation has been made and they said their is around 2700 tonnes of ammonium Nitrate inside.

The mistake that I see here is that why is the chemical being put in a place where there are many people. See the surroundings of the place where the explosion happened. There are many houses living around it.
Many have injured and unfortunately dozens are killed by the explosion. This is a double problem for them because they are already suffering from the pandemic and now this happened. The hospitals can't admit any patients anymore which is a sad thing. Lets just hope for the best and I know that there will be somebody who will help them (creator).
Generally, ideally, all hazardous industries, as well as port storage facilities and other facilities should be located far from settlements, but today all these facilities in almost every country are located within the city. Today, land plots are beginning to be valued very expensively, and therefore every square of land is saved, while using gray zones for building residential areas. Perhaps you need to think about safety when storing hazardous substances.

The explosion itself is horrible but the whole economical and political situation in Lebanon looks dire. The Lebanese pound lost about 70% of its value against the US dollar and the national debt is enormous.
Theres no way the explosion wont affected the country economic because the explosion happened in the country biggest port almost half if the city was affected which more than 85% hotels are damaged. I even expect the lost to be more than 70%.

My thoughts are with all those who were injured or lost a loved one in yesterday's explosion. I hope they get well soon and I really hope that Lebanon will not follow Syria into a civil war.
I hope they wont make the decision of following Syria to war because the yesterday explosion was caused by unsecured ammonium nitrate which is an explosion material and can also cause respiratory tract irritation if inhaled. The incident survival need to giving proper care cause they might have inhale the ammonium nitrate.

Still don't know what the reason caused this explosion (Or explosions, according to some news.) I hope people from all over the world help them by sending foods and the other emergency stuff.

Yeah 2020s been a bad year. They'll have already faced an economic downturn from covid and now will have this to deal with on top of that.

It's a shame there's no well funded version of the EU for the rest of the world so that when crises like this happen other countries can help to reduce the burden...

Protestors just tried to storm the Energy Ministry in Beirut yesterday and I saw on German news that people from Beirut are now trying to set up power supply in the city by themselfs with generators.

Let's hope they manage to get those generators fully functioning and the death toll doesn't continue to increase here (just because hospitals don't have electricity).

Not being anticipated to happen during  this crisis time, but if I read correctly
the Pres said that it's been.

"President Michel Aoun tweeted it was "unacceptable" that 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate was stored unsafely."

Storing explosive unsafely always risking your people from this kind of accidents
Shamed to those who stored it without thinking.

pray from here as we are also affected by this crisis.

A large blast in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, has killed at least 70 people and injured more than 4,000 others, the health minister says.

Videos show smoke billowing from a fire, then a mushroom cloud following the blast at the city's port.

Officials are blaming highly explosive materials stored in a warehouse for six years.

President Michel Aoun tweeted it was "unacceptable" that 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate was stored unsafely.

An investigation is under way to find the exact trigger for the explosion. Lebanon's Supreme Defence Council said those responsible would face the "maximum punishment" possible.

Hospitals are said to be overwhelmed and many buildings have been destroyed.

President Aoun declared a three-day mourning period, and said the government would release 100 billion lira (£50.5m; $66m) of emergency funds.

"The UK is ready to provide support in any way we can, including to those British nationals affected."
