If you want to buy a ledger wallet do not buy from Amazon or eBay it's safer to buy from the official website, I'm just been careful because there are few videos on YouTube where hardware wallets are been tempered with which makes me think that hacking them is possible even before someone become a new user..precaution is better than cure.
I remember there is an issue where we bought a ledger nano on their official site cause they have off sale during that time and some of the emails on their data bank has been breached and reported leaked online. So I guess theres no safe anymore actually. Thats their official site already and that occured.

AFAIK ledger is more likely had data breach rather than trezor, but we still don't know the truth since it's still a rumor. The better way is buy through marketplace from the official stores, not directly on ledger/trezor official website. Ledger and trezor don't mind to share your information to anyone, so it's bad for your privacy and higher risk your wallet got tampered.

You have the right to request access to your Personal Data, their rectification or erasure, as well as the right to request the restriction of the processing or to object to the processing.

Under Article 15 to 21 of the GDPR, you have the following rights that you are entitled to apply to the collector:
  • Right of access,
  • Right to rectification,
  • Right to erasure,
  • Right to restriction of processing,
  • Right to object.

If you decide to buy hardware wallet, you need to keep your privacy really safe enough:
  • Using TOR before access the sites
  • Using disposable email and new number cellphones
  • Using fake name or alias
  • Using PO box (to hide your real address)
  • Don't link your bank account, instead using alternative payment without link your ID

A lot of members suggesting either not to buy from Ledger directly due to previous leaks or buying directly from them to avoid messing with less known sellers.  How about, as long as it is a viable solution and not too distant, looking for a local reseller and physically buying directly from your local shop?  Ledger already has resellers in many countries.  You then avoid receiving a tampered with device AND you also avoid having your personal information leaked out.

Well you pointed out --there are plenty of local stores that are officially credited by the Ledger store as their official reseller and I think that is the right store to purchase Ledger wallet and there is no problem about that. But if you want to purchase in official website Ledger that is also good.
Find here [ https://www.ledger.com/reseller ] the official store of Ledger wallet. The tempered wallet of Ledger is easy to determine if you received this, don't use it.

There is not new thing - you should never buy hardware wallets from unofficial sellers. You can save few dollars by doing it, but there is risk to lose all your crypto savings later. So, I don't think that's worth to risk.
But it's not completely safe to buy from official website too. Few years ago Ledger customers database with personal data, mainly emails were leaked. So, it would be best not to use your main email when you order hardware wallet from it.
And yeah, as said above, Ledger have official store on Amazin, but it's worth to check everything twice before making order.

Reading through all these simply suggest to the fact that, once there is an atom of risk involved, it's not what trying. I mean, why would you do that! Be it eBay, Amazon official store or some place else, there could always be these smart pants that just gets a copy and wait. You know  having another humans person hand you a seed phrase is breaking the first rule of anything privacy about it. All it takes is time to always observe the wallet address to note when some hug deposit is been made into the wallet and its all set for a hack. In essence, given the possibility means, it could always happen.

It may be worth reading through this thread to see a few things that can go wrong making the purchase even on Amazon (where Ledger does have official stores in some countries). The thread describes a case where a Ledger product had been initialized and the 24 word mnemonic pre-printed. That was probably carried out by some smarty-pants who prepared the whole thing, kept a copy of the mnemonic, returned the product, and waited for it to be shipped off to another customer as if it was (still) brand new. Ebay is more prolific with cases such as the previously described.

Something else to poner (of which no company is exempt from risk or past cases sus as Ledger):

Ledger has an official store on Amazon:
https://www.ledger.com/reseller

Not that I'm suggesting it is better than buying directly from their shop or buying a product from them at all.
Taking into account their last hack where thousands of real-life addresses were leaked, I wonder what's worse, the risk of a tampered wallet or the risk of somebody tampering with your life when you come home after dark.

Why would you even consider that? I know many noobs fall into this scam trick and get ripped off. It’s very much easy to temper a wallet & sell them. People must only use the official website to order.
The problem is newbie wouldn’t give your thread a fuck & buy from Amazon. Someday, they will come back & claim Ledger (or any other) wallet doesn’t have security lol.
