It's back!

I do wonder how much they're paying in hosting fees. Sure, the requests are quite small ~ < 100 kb, but still, if you have 10k users "concurrently" (- more or less) refreshing the page with no advertising model... well.. I can only imagine that that adds up...?
I guess they probably use at least VPN, right? Usually, popular projects aren't hosted on shared hosting, even if the page is just lorem ipsum text.
They use herokuapp for their hosting. I'm not exactly sure what their plans are, but i think that bandwith is the most pressing "resource". It could be that they offer unlimited plans, in which case hosting something like preev really doesn't need to be expensive, but i can't find any source on their bandwith plans. It may be a little bit offtopic but why is the preev so popular? Personally, I have used it almost every time during exchange cause everyone asks for preev rate. Is the data of website the reason of it? It's pretty old.
Not sure. I like it because it loads fast, has no ads / is kind my eyes, and is fairly accurate price-wise.

And why does this website exist without monetization? Just a honour from the author? Then that's great!
Perhaps there's some data-collecting on the side Tongue, but other than that, I assume so.

I just checked and seems it is the website owned by bitcointalk member fennec. Here is the ANN thread

Edit: Wrote VPN instead of VPS (just my typo that was corrected).

There's also another thread that asked the same question yesterday. (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/calculator-preev-is-down-5290493)

It's back!
Heads up guys, as said, it's back and working for me. Do they have any social media account to know what happened to them earlier?

They're back!

They're back!

Its just too odd for having preev to be down even though there are other alternatives.
which you can read up here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/calculator-preev-is-down-5290493

Just came here to say the same. How am I meant to find out the price of bitcoin now?  Huh

I guess that you are joking, but if you aren't, here's one of the many alternatives: https://mycryptobuddy.com/CurrencyConverter
However, I hope it's only temporarily down (yes it's also down for me too). It was an amazingly simple and useful page.

In the middle of the bull run? Probably got rekt with too many requests due to BTC mooning. A similar error happened a few days ago, so it's probably temporary.

Yeah, I'm guessing they're just receiving a shit load of traffic right now as people check the site constantly and something fucked up.

Not the first time the site is being downed.

But surely, the site is down to everyone (just in case someone thinks it's just for them).

No choice but to wait for some updates.

Yes, it showing its down for everyone.

Perhaps they got too many hits on their site and they could not handle this much traffic.

that's weird because the site doesn't seem to be technically down, there is an html that is being loaded and shown (the screenshot above) to the user. sites that are down don't show anything since the server doesn't respond anymore.
It's not weird at all. The website may be returning an HTML page, but the response status is 404 (Not Found).

Most websites don't have a screen to show when they send a non 200 status code (404, 500, ...), so that's why you only see your browser's error message and assume that's what "down" means.

They stop their services from time to time. This is not the first time I see them like this. They probably run out of money to pay their heroku bills. I'm not sure if they generate enough revenue to pay all those.
I never saw any kind of advertisement on the website and I assume they receive A LOT of traffic. They could probably make some good money if they did so.

There's a preev.pro but I don't think it's going to be a useful resource upon checking the bitcoin rate. It needs to be funded first to update hehe.
the default coin it shows is also not bitcoin but instead an altcoin called "bitcoin scam version" or BSV for short Wink

But surely, the site is down to everyone (just in case someone thinks it's just for them).

I think so since I also see the same "No such app" with preev.com

Just use Coingecko or other more reliable price aggregator if you know of any.
