I installed Minera Dashboard on a debian VM, the install was a breeze.


You can easily spot the miners who are unstable, and might need some freq adjustment, I love it.

You said you'd been mining from 2013. So was it worth it? I mean really, I have couple of friends who's mining with Antminers and they are saying if you can have back the money you've invested - that is the best you can get.

It was worth it. I was lucky with my timing I think. From April - Nov 2013, i mined LTC valued at 20k$ (24k in todays value, strange how things change like that.. :p) during peak in Nov. I sold half my coins, still got a couple of hundred ltc left..^^ I guess I could be bitter for not cashing out everything, but hey, I'm a believer!  Wink

Thanks mate! It's pushing, and going both left and right. I can adjust the vent to the left to regulate the heat inside the house. I know this T-split is killing the air-flow, but I actually think its gonna work anyway! We'll see ^^

Update:

Almost done, need to fix a permanent door solution:


Bitmain's APW3-12-1600-B2 PSU:

Starting two of these at the same time on a 230V 16A circuit, will make it pop! ^^ You need to cycle-start them.


"Rack" in place, testing Bitmain's PSU with S1's:



These two shelves will contain the S7's probably:

Going to seal it up so that all the fresh air goes thru the miners before entering the room.

The biggest danger there is the ROI time, just pray for S8's to not show up before you ROI.

I don't think praying will help.  I think a S7+ or S8 will show up before most ROI.   I doubt they wait for all these S7's to roi  before next model.

But I could be wrong.

I'm a little worried about the air-flow, will it be enough to cool 7200W.. time will tell! Tongue

I got a 400 m3/h exhaust fan mounted on the "outtake". The idea with the T-split, is to be able to open/close the vent on the left (inside of the house). This way we can hopefully adjust the heat inside. The hot air will then flow into the basement, and rise 2 floors up.
If this vent-idea don't work out, I'll mount the exhaust fan directly on the outside wall vent. And add another separate fan to the inside vent, giving me 800 m3/h exhaust (with passive intake). I can direct the air from the inside wall vent, to another exhaust vent if necessary.

Cut holes for the miners & PSU. And make it air-tight around the rack as well. Hopefully this will help direct/force the cool air thru/around the miners, and create some extra pressure on the exhaust.

I was just thinking the same 6 S7's would be over 7k watts.    Even if he has cheap electricity hes paying a lot for the cooling he's getting from these.

You really should think about paying your grandpa for some of the power.  I do like the setup.... just man that is a lot of power to make someone pay.

The thing is, this is a fun project for the both of us. And it actually gives him something to do during the day! Imagine how fast you rot, if all you do is wake up at 5am, and watch TV all day.. (when ur 87 years old).

Yeah I'm hoping for a very long and cold winter.  Not as far north as you but in the North East US.  My electrical rates are twice your own, which doubles my own ROI.  But not having to turn on the heater this year could also save me $600 USD.  And since I started at the end of summer mining I'm not paying full freight on my cooling costs, with the 30C to 35C heat we've had this year.

Update:




Making a "vent shaft" from the window, to the bottom of the miner-room. This is where the fresh air is gonna come in to cool off the miners.
This will hopefully prevent snow from blowing in on those nasty days as well! I'm considering installing some kind of filter over the window to filter-out the dust particles. Dust is what killed my GPU-rigs, tho the S1's haven't been affected by the dust. I guess the ASIC fans are a bit more "heavy duty", compared to GPU fans.

One of the boards is becoming a door, so that I can access the room from the "hot-side" of the rack I'm placing in there.
The idea is to use plexiglass or something similar, to make the rack air tight, so that all the cold air are forced to go threw the miners.

I wish I had the patience to learn SketchUp! ^^

yeah it is, consider that you cna have profit up to 0.2 with the s7, but i'm sure thiw will not last long, when everyone will switch to the new miners the ratio will be the same as now, up to 0.1 kw/h for profit

It's decent and since you're recycling the heat, it makes it very well worth it, unless something bigger than I expect happens in the future.
Amph is right though, there are incredibly efficient chips that are already developed and they are about to hit the public market.

Tbh, I'm not doing it for the profit. If I look at my mining project as a whole, I've already ROI'd this investment on my old scrypt rig. When I started mining the ltc price was 2$, I sold at 42$ Tongue
I'm doing it for the fun of it, support the network, the experience, its basically a hobby. I'm happy if I break even!

Example of hobby:
I'm in the process of building a public gapahuk in the woods("https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lean-to"), with closed sleeping quarters. Which will be heated by a Ant S1, powered by solar, activated by SMS! ^^

I guess I like the idea of heating things while lowering electricity cost of that heat, by mining. If you look at it this way, ROI isn't that important. A lot of homes uses these 2000W fan-heaters to heat up their homes. If you could replace these by making silent miners out of old chips, that was practical as heaters, you could probably make a buck! ^^

Sounds like you have a lot of money and time to waste invest. Good luck.

Do you have well over 7200W available for your closet? Six S7's will suck a fair amount of electricity. I see a single outlet. I hope it's 240V with at least 30Amps.

Good question! What you see are 2 outlets, each on its own 225-230V 16A circuit.

225-230V X 16A = 3600-3680W

Each S7 rated at 1210W, ideally I shouldn't run more than 2 miners per circuit. I'm gonna try 3 anyway, might need to underclock. (I've run these at 3600W for almost 2 years Tongue) The total length in cable from outlet to circuit is about 2-2,5 meters, and there are no other outlets/connections on the wire in-between.
Another option is I got another 10A circuit on the other side of the room I could run 1 miner on, so that puts me at 5. The last one could be hosted at a secondary location I got on hand.
Option 3: I setup another 16A circuit.

I am however a little more worried about the heat! There will be 2x 125mm air outlets with a 125mm fan rated at 400 m3/h, in a push configuration.
Ventilation will be trial and error! ^^

Edit:
On a positive note, the input air temp is now around 10C, when winter comes it will be -0 to -20C. That will be interesting.

what amount of power is the main breaker rated for Huh?

also try to blow HOT AIR OUT OF THE ROOM NOT IN then this will make the room pressure drop and it will suck cool air in from the other room or window in the room this is what I do and the room stays so much cooler.

To the point:
I need to build a small room to house 6x S7's to take care of the dB issue (Grandpa's not def.. yet!) and hopefully make it easier to take care of cooling (air flow control).

I decided to put up some walls in this corner of the room in the basement:

This way I can pull air in through the window, and exhaust it thru the soon to be bigger vent. + I'm going to setup some kind of "air-sluice", to be able to control how much air is exhausted inside (for heating purposes) and outside.

Dad hooked me up with some free wood: (LOL)

It's of course all wet (...), but this doesn't really matter as its a temporary setup anyway. And the miners will dry em up!

When I got back, grandpa(87) had already ripped out the vent, and taken off the window, he was excited!  Cheesy

Tomorrow I'll finish the walls, aka. add wall boards like the one you see in the background of last pic. And try to figure out some kind of door.
I also need to make a box of some kind around the window, to funnel the air into the "room".
