What gives? Is this a wait and see moment, or did something go terribly terribly wrong? Also, what information can I give to assist in diagnosing the situation, and how can I obtain it?
When your computer crashed it probably corrupted the blockchain files on disk. Now your client is downloading the blockchain again. However, your client still knows about the transactions relevant to your wallet, so that is why it shows those transactions. Without the blockchain, though, it cannot say how many confirmations they have. So it says zero.
I suggest you use blockchain.info or blockexplorer.com to verify the balance in your addresses if you are worried.

That is the most likely problem.  If this persists, restart your client with the -rescan flag to force the client to completely rescan the blockchain.

Okay, backstory time. It's winter, which means bad times for cables. Suffered a brief 1-hour loss of connectivity, with intermittent connection for another few hours. Once everything was over my client re-synced with the network, and I noticed I'd received some more micro-payments during the meantime(which were confirmed). (awesome!) I should also mention that in the course of this my computer shut down, or lost power, without QT being closed. (no idea if this is bad. Currently have it set to detatch databases on exit, which means it didn't do that.)
(everything was confirmed at this time)
Fastforward to now(3-4 hours after this started), I just noticed that almost all my transactions are now unconfirmed (0 of 6) even though the oldest one had over 11K confirmations. (only 7 transactions are confirmed, coincidentally these are all the transactions I've done since I updated my client to QT v8)
