If we look at the development of the price to date, it seems that who has bought above $4k now will produce a fairly profitable results, there is nothing wrong if you buy above the price of $4K and proved even this seems a very promising to get profitable in investing. Smiley

As of now the price of bitcoin is alreadt 4500 dollars and i believe before end of this month possible price is 5000 dollars so if you have extra money in your pocket its better to buy bitcoin now becuase you will earn profit if you hold and you buy bitcoin. More bitcoin that you have more money to come dont waste your time just buy bitcoin and for sure you will be happy to result.

its possible for bitcoin to increase in the future but now i wont recomend buying it at 4500$ because i can see that its value can still go back down to 3000$ and under , so therefore its better if we can just wait for a moment and seperate some spare money  in order to buy it if the value will drop and i think thats the smartest way to do if your on to investing ib bitcoin.

The price is now at $5500 and I wish you have bought while it is still at a low price of $4200. There will be always a bad days in trading but just shake it off and move forward.

Making some sort of research will really helps a lot in deciding when to start making your investment and I believe by doing so you just realize that there's no perfect time to invest in bitcoin other than today, bitcoin value fluctuates sometimes drops but the best thing is that after all those fluctuations the value of bitcoin keeps appreciating which make me believe whether you buy a weeks or months ago or buy today after few more months or year you sill surely earn a good profit, so instead of waiting for the crash better invest now if you can.

It's a good price of bitcoin. 4k is good bitcoin the prediction amount of bitcoin end of this year is 10,000 usd hope i hope i won't miss anything when bitcoin will crash at the price of 3,500 howerver if the price stays at 4k then probably it will reach 5,000 soon
I am not sure why the prediction is too high as of now,end of the year means that it is a couple of months away and you think that the price will break out from this position and soar just like that, you need to have a substance to think that the price of bitcoin will have a rally like that which could literally double in evaluation in a short time which is really impossible with the current situation regarding bitcoin.

I have been advising people and friends that now is the best time to buy bitcoin when the price was below $2000! Many of my friends say bitcoin will fall but now many of us are now enjoying our holding.  I just established a business for my wife last month after I sold part of my bitcoin holdings. I have also been holding bitcoin since the price was below $500 and now the price is above  $4800. Except you have something important to do with money you should still hold as we are still at the early stages of it development.

That's good news everyone who new btc before and didn't try to hold some were regretting their decision of not trusting it at first. Im always inspired on holding because of this stories.
well if you are aiming and treating this as your investment to have stable life after maybe 5 years or less bitcoin is the best decision to have, its still an early stage even price is rising a lots will happen in the future ahead, bitcoin will never stop surprising its believers so better to start buying and holding and be
happy after, it will be more popular and people start adopting this system.

Don't buy over $4000 because for me it is very high to start investing. If bitcoin drops then thats the right time to buy and invest it, or maybe just save it so in the future you will gain profit.

it could be a good idea but if the price is still increase until reach more than $5k and then suddenly the price is drop at $46xx, what is your decision? because after it reach $5k, i think the price is difficult to get down under $4k but there are always possible to down in under $4k but its hard except there is any bad news, i mean something is happen that will cause bitcoin down too far. my advice is maybe you can buy at small amount first if there any down of the price, just to test the market and if there any big dump then you can prepare to buy a big amount.

A bit frustrated.  I have been following this whole crypto frenzy for a few months now. Told a lot of friend and family about it and sent them countless articles.  I sat back and watched it drop quickly to under 3K thinking it would continue to drop to maybe 2-2500. As it went back up  finally thought seriously about buying a coin or two and finally get into this game.
I bought about $500 worth a few days ago just so I could buy an array of cheap alt coins I believe in. I had a deal to get some from someone on localbitcoins yesterday and it would have been 3600.  As the time approached he informed me he sold them all to a "whale" and id have to wait until today.  Cry  Now his price is 4200 ........

Should I just look at is a long term investment like gold and buy now ? Buy now and buy again if it dips ?   I keep reading all these articles full of opinions about it going to 100K +.   I would hate to look back at this junction in my life with deep regrets.  When I first heard about bitcoin it was dirt cheap and I thought it was a joke.  I didnt take the  time to inform myself and blew it off.  No big regrets.  This time I have done a ton of research frankly obsessing on the topic for the last week or so.

What say you ?

Thanks

In my opinion, I don't think now is the right time to buy bitcoin, if you are willing to make profit from your initial investment, don't buy when its high. Rather buy when its lower and sell when its high.

I will have to agree with you when say that bitcoin is been to lows such as $2900 and I also thought that it was gonna go lower than that and unfortunately that didn't happen. If you were willing to buy into bitcoin, you should have bought around that period. For now, you should just wait for the next crash, I don't know when that is going to happen but just wait.
But we were too much confident from the very beginning that the price of bitcoin do not have fell down any specially below 3000$, and even if it will come down still it will not stay here for a long, but will very soon recover its position, therefore I think that those  people who do not invest money ibn bitcoin at that price they really missed a very great chance of making a big amount of money in a short period of time.
Why not?
I have to remember a lot of people have said the price of Bitcoin will drop down soon, even I can see it happens every day.
Just by you ignore these alert, you was greedy and want to earn extra Bitcoin while you did not know you are trading in a big trap.

The answer for your situation is; the longer you wait, then bitcoin price will increase even further. If you bought BTC1 it at $3600, your investment already doubled right now. If you have to choose invest in gold or bitcoin, I will recommend both of it, but divide your funds 80% into bitcoin due to high interest of bitcoin over time compare with gold price. Bitcoin price constantly increase even though there will be always some dips, but in the end invest in bitcoin for long term will be worth instead of let it sits in your bank account.

Yes that's right buying $4000 is to high to invest you should buy less than 4k cause maybe bitcoin will take to long to increase you can earn much profit on that price. I think op is assuming that bitcoin will reach into $10000 in this upcoming year like the others prediction. But its just a prediction we cannot assure if that prediction will happen.. I suggest next time to buy a low price such as 2k   or 3k instead $4000. and also you can sell it right away when bitcoin reach atleast 5k .cause after that bitcoin will fall again beacuse of its volatility

In fact the price of bitcoin do not have to stay here for a long time, i think still bitcoin is trading in a very reasonable price and is still giving opportunities to people who are welling to make money from bitcoin, but i think that if people will miss the opportunity of buying bitcoin in present time then i do not think that they will see the price of bitcoin trading at present price, because we are expecting about the price of bitcoin that in the end of 2017 or in very beginning the price of bitcoin will be trading above 7000$.

i think it is always a good time to buy bitcoin, as long as it still not as high as 10000 usd, since it is still considerably cheap, however we still need to check the trends, if we see it somehow going down, that's the best time to buy, since it will gain more profits. still we need to be very careful when buying, if we are not updated with any of the news and current events that are happening it could cost us, the more we know and understand when to buy bitcoin at a time like is much preferred than just randomly buying at any time or doing an impulse buying, since we all know that the price may no go  lower than 3000 usd as of now, we can be sure that around 4000 usd is a good time to buy. i think with all the positive news that are coming, bitcoin's price will go up, so before or after the fork, is the best time to buy, since there will be more investors that will hodl and only a few will sell their bitcoins, since they had already bought it at a cheaper price.
This is indeed a very good opportunity. because if you look at the bitcoin price chart then chances are that the price will increase again. some positive news has made bitcoin prices steadily increase. I want to give you better advice on buying at this time, do not get caught up when the bitcoin price has increased again. we should take this opportunity as good as possible because a good chance sometimes just come a few moments. bitcoin prices will surpass 5,000USD and we will benefit greatly with little patience.

i believe you are in the wrong board. the board you should be saying this on is called altcoin speculation not bitcoin.
if you really think when bitcoin price goes down it is a "falling knife" then you never understood what bitcoin is. or maybe you don't know what a falling knife looks like Cheesy

if you don't believe me you an take a look at some bitcoin charts and see how "these many falling knifes" have ended up. each time there is a drop they are followed by a bigger rally. for example if you bought this falling knife when it went to 3k range you could have made $1500 profit max on each coin.

Was a very short dip to 3500 a few days ago I wish I had acted on. It went to 3650 a few hours later which is what I paid the day before so I waited.  Now its been pretty stable in the 38-3900 range.  I thought it would continue down.  It changes direction so quickly.

Still have 1.6 bitcoin and the other 1.4  is in alt coins. 10 ETH, 12 LTC and the rest is spread among various alt coins that have potential.  NEO and GAS went up a LOT today,  wish I had gotten more of those when cheaper.  I find it all very interesting.

iam not buy if bitcoin price over 4000 dollar
i will wait bitcoin price down to 3000 dollar and then buyback again

its difficult to see bitcoin price down to $3000 although the chance is possible but it is a good idea to wait until the price is reach that range. but now i think it is a good time to buy bitcoin but we need to be careful when we see the market trend because we have short time until the end of this month to decide to buy now or later. but for me, i will wait until the next month because i am curious about what will happen after the chinese market is closed.
Today, buy Bitcoin still a good decisive if you really want to buy it at cheap price, if the price of Bitcoin can not falls down to $3,000 again, you will miss a chance to buy it around $3,xxx range price.

For investing purpose it is better to wait for bear market.Liquidity is main factor that investors look for this.
How is buying when price is low different from buying on a pullback?  If you're not buying on a pullback, then you're buying higher, at least in the short term.  Or do you mean it's better to wait for some kind of price consolidation?  Usually, buying on a pullback does not mean buying as it's dropping.  It means you buy either when it looks like price is leveling off in a pullback, or you buy as price is just starting to rise as it exits a pullback.

How do you define a bear market in bitcoin?  In other financial markets, like stocks, a bear market is usually defined as a period when price is off its high by 20% or more.  If you use that definition, bitcoin is in a bear market as long as it's below ~$4k (i.e., we've been in one for a week).

Right now would be a great time to buy. As i've stated many times before: Do not buy just cause the price is going up.

You see if you just have a bit of patience then you'll find a dip which will be the perfect time for you to accumulate bitcoin at. Right now the price is at $3600, which is a $600 discount from the $4100-4200 level you wanted to buy at.

Still though i think price has potential to go down some further. Only buy with some, not all of yoru funds.
That is right since there will be a coming fork on November. We are now experiencing the ripple effect of it, though the epicenter is still months away. You're suggestion on buying is not bad and I agree that somewhere in the middle or late October there will be a big dump. The buyers will have their opportunity to have such profits if the timing is right.
It is indeed wise to keep this mind.  All auction-style financial markets (like bitcoin) try to predict what the price will be in the future.  Especially when an event like the fork is known well ahead of time, the market will either increase or decrease leading up to the fork, depending on whether the general belief is that the fork will have a positive or negative impact on bitcoin and its price.  When the fork actually happens, if the result is as the market predicted, you may see little reaction to the event.  But if the market gets it wrong, then you may see huge price swings as price catches up to reality.

too many manipulative procedures have been performed in the last 2 weeks. what was already done by those who did it. people have to sell   very cheaply what they buy really expensive. in this way the prices are lowered and those who create this manipulation are much cheaper than the bitcoin stocks. it is necessary to stay in the hodl position without being sick of such games. if the bitcoin exceeds 4 thousand dollars, the resistance points need to be determined well. the price may go up to 4300 after those levels, but again if the resistance goes away, it may fall back to 3200 levels very quickly. The price of bitcoin has to be realized very carefully after 4 thousand dollars has approached and passed.

I believe it will dump until 2.5k or something. So be updated always, this is an opportunity to those investors out there, and to the whales as well.

Thanks

Bitcoin is a long term investment but it's not a good idea to buy whenever you feel like buying especially if you are being influenced by the fact that everyone else is buying and you think that price is going to go up as a result.

Go against the crowd sentiment, if most people are buying without reason then it's a good idea to wait for the dip.

Like right now, i'd say that it's a very opportune time to buy.

As of now the price of is 3600 dollars and fot sure it will increase again so dont worry and we will see again the price of 4k dollars maybe this week or next week and for sure the price of bitcoin will hit again 5k dollars so dont worry about . You can buy bitcoin as of now and for sure you will earn profit in the future. Buy right now and enjoy and payout later. But invest only you can afford to lose.

I think that you can still can buy now, and wait a few months and profit, if you want 2x, 3x or more, you must have more patience
Even if it is in high price, still you can buy if you can afford it. Buying bitcoin even if 5k is still profitable as bitcoin price still of high price in the market, and it will goes up as other big countries embracing bitcoin. And maybe  a big chances that it will hit into 6k or more within this year.
Just decide your self, early birds have a great chances to get more.

Perhaps there will be marginally better times to buy in the near future but is it worth risking saving a few hundred bucks when on the flip side bitcoin could potentially push through 5k and to an all time high?
Probably not. If the uptrend continues(which probably will) soon we will see $5k and gradually and floor of $5k like we more or less saw a floor of $3k last week that was probably the best time to buy. But now is also a good time to buy as soon $4k will be left long behind like $1000.
You should buy when it dips, last week it was in dip . Many took that opportunity to buy more. Maybe wait a little longer or buy now. It can increase anytime soon.

but china is banning their bitcoin exchange site, so i would believe that buying bitcoin right now is not really recommended - that dip was most likely because that, china is banning those money laundering like a shark. if there are more support it is going up without that affection.

Don't panic buy nor panic sell.

As we speak the price has corrected down to a nice $3850 and is a much better buying opportunity than if you bought at $4200 just a few days ago. I think that the price will still dip quite a bit before adjusting up by the end of the month.

You should buy at the dips instead of buying when it's gone up 5-10% a day regularly. Right now, anything below $3500 at this month is a good buy imo.

Yes, the price has dropped a bit... to under $3900 and this presents a buying opportunity. But your strategy should be to buy little by little at regular intervals. That way, you average out your purchase price. It is very difficult to time the market perfectly. The same strategy should be applied while selling.
It continues falls down to $3,6xx and keep price at here. So, as per my experience the mentality of traders are very panic, the happen on the market today has proves Bitcoin still in panic time.

Just think to buy whenever you like at from this current dip but just make sure that you doesn't get to hook on it since there is some serious issue happening to day and might you gotta grab those cheapest price reach for the coin you want. And by monitoring each movement of the price on each coin aswell with bitcoins well you might earn good profits by being active on chart flaws.

Seems to be crashing a good bit today.   Down $374 last 24 hours.  I'm not unhappy about this really.  I am thinking more about next purchase of it.  Im really going to try to keep focused on dollar cost averaging my purchases and dont plan on taking any money out for a long time no matter what price does. I believe in blockchain tech and what it will do over time. Same with the alt coins.  I dont have enough invested in any single coin to really matter that much so might as well let them ride and see what happens.

If you were me would you still focus mainly on BTC as the primary investment or would you go 50/50 on ETH and or LTC ?  I heard apple takes dashcoins now which has me considering it as well but those higher ticket alt coins worry me more.

See, Bitcoin went to $2900 last week and now it's $4000. Possibilities are there that it drop to $3000 again in future but waiting for such time will what I call a mistake.
Better enter the market as soon as you can since it is not late yet.
There is much more potential left to be harnessed. While we consider the statement that Bitcoin will cross $10,000 to be vague at the present but future has much more for Bitcoin. With increased adoption in Africa, Asia and Latin America $10k isn't an impossible target anymore.

It looks like we will not see 10000$ before 2018 no matter how many continents gonna to be part of it or not like China..IMO we will see another big dump specially fat fingers keep pressing "sell button".Future of cryptocoins are bright considering the advantages of blockchain.

True, the current negative action of China greatly affect Bitcoin's price trend.  Lots of Bitcoin supporter from China are, for sure, worried about the current activities of their government.  Even with the upcoming updates, it might somehow push the hype out of Bitcoin but the current event will still pull it (price) down.  Probably we can see Bitcoin at around $5k at the end of the year.

Anyway, Op should buy whenever he felt comfortable buying, you just missed out on the dip but I think Bitcoin is still low atm.  Or wait till these exchanges in China shut down.  Probably Bitcoin will be way cheaper on that day.

Pretty happy with what I have so far.  I have about  1 1/4 BTC left.  Bought 10 ETH and 10 LTC,  rest went to alt coins I liked.  Spread out big time.  Have atleast 15 alt coins with around $50 worth in each one.  Any of the really cheap ones rocket I could profit a good bit.  Will hold them and see what happens in the next year or so.

Just maintained it. The progress so far is good and I think you already know what you are doing.

Long term holding doesn't associated with weak hands so just ignored any price decrease that will happen on the way while you are holding coins. Also try to accumulate another quantities every price dip on a large margin.

Most of the people are thinking that and they sell it out and when the time started increasing. I do noticed the bitcoin today and price fall down to big number.
Since this is an older thread which is best to talk the bitcoin buying when the price over 4k because now its 3700$ only.

I suggest you to wait and buy when the price goes down 4K, it will go up to 4K easy before the end of the year you will earn some money over that
I think it will be too long before it will happen again, since btc just recovered from it's dump due to China banning, maybe by November hardfork. Some may panic and can produce to dump.
If the scenario of whales is in October, the price of Bitcoin go to the moon or the time for altcoin market comeback, November will be the time to bloodbath on the market. This is my predict hehe.
Well, last year that's exactly what happened (except for the China thing). After entering in the ber-months of the year, the price of these coins were surely decreasing due to these forks and also the China banning the coins summed it up making it more dumped than usual. It may sound like it is a horrible thing but this is a great opportunity since the whales have their hopes up to mine more of it. While the whales are making their magnificent feast they're slowly making the price a bit more than what of the current value cap, and surely when the month of December came in the price of these coins will rocket to the moon as expected.

Personally; I believe if you're buying at 3,500, 3,700, 3,800, etc. it's not going to matter if you're in it for the long haul.

If you're a day trader, sure, I would be more wary about your entry and exit points.  However, five-ten years from now when deflation hits, less coins being mined, etc happens, and BTC is 50-100x what it is now, I don't believe you're going to really care about entry point.  Buy what you can afford, and invest!

aiming for long term you are in a good position their mate, as we knew crypto will bring us fortune if we trusted the project though the swing is always there but its better to don't mind them and wait only for your target price to be achieved before selling your coins.

Today the price of bitcoin is around $3800 to $3900, keeps on fluctuating. So for long term investment buying now looks better, we can't predict anything in bitcoin, sometimes this can be the best opportunity for buying because the price can move forward without bouncing back much, at that time we may think that we had lost a golden opportunity. So what to do is just buy for a small amount, then looking after the upcoming situations we can conclude whether to buy or not.

This kind of things always happen to Bitcoin and it is normal, that is why Bitcoin is tagged as Highly volatile, wild fluctuating digital currency.  I believe you will agree with me.  Anyway, I can say if you have the plan to buy Bitcoin buy them today or you have to buy it higher on the next day, well, you are lucky if it goes down but as many of Bitcoin holder say, Bitcoin is a good store of value, so if you have Bitcoin to be your store of value and is ready for the longtime holdings, the price today won't matter.

I ave high hopes for a lot of the alt coins too.  Especially ETH and LTE. Everything I have read LTE works WAY faster than BTC. Might take years but  believe it will also seriously increase into the thousands.

I would be really careful with altcoins now. I consider a large part of them being actually still in a bubble. Especially, be careful with coins that were issued with an ICO ("initial coin offering"), including ETH. They often have a centralized development model, and many jurisdictions (like the US and China) do not like ICOs so they could have less demand in the future if these states decide to strictly regulate them, like China appears to be doing now. If investing in ICOs and "ICO coins", look at the good ones, those that have a company with experience behind it.

I think with "LTE" you mean Litecoin, or not? Litecoin is a solid altcoin but has not so much use its market cap could seem to indicate, so be careful here too.

Bitcoin could be still a good deal to buy it now if you are in for the long term, although I consider the current price a bit high (I expect a short term bear market in October/November, where prices could go under $3000 and even briefly may reach below-2000 prices).

I think right now is good time to buy Bitcoin before the price skyrocketed. Bitcoin is getting reading to shoot itself to the next level. Cool

Indeed if we look at a few days ago bitcoin prices make everyone worried, even I was frustrated to see the bitcoin price charts that I continue to observe every day. I'm afraid that what happened in 2014 is back again today, but today I can breathe a sigh of relief, as the bitcoin price that was almost back in the $ 2900 range, now bitcoin trying to rise and has reached $ 3900, I hope this increase will continue until bitcoin prices can reach $ 4000 even more.

I see behind the bitcoin prices that dropped a few days ago, bitcoin actually offers us a great opportunity, where at that time people who buy bitcoin at a cheaper price have a big chance of getting big profits today, because the bitcoin price has started stable, even more expensive.

I am in it for the long haul.If it gets down to 1K I wont be happy but I will hold strong with a firm belief in what this currency will do.  If it goes below 1K I will be especially unhappy but will still hold.  I will sink with the ship on this bet.
If we get to a point where price is several times what you bought it for, I would recommend selling at least enough to cover your initial investment.  That way, no matter what price does, you will be able to relax a lot more, knowing that you can't lose money, even if it goes to zero.  That can be very freeing, helping you keep your emotions in check during the times when price falls, and thus helping you to make rational decisions, as I mentioned in my first post.

I think the OP has already missed a good buying point at $2800. But for me $4000 is not a good entry because the price is too high. But then again, if you have funds ready and willing to be invested then definitely get some now. We have see the price could surge again in the coming months or years. So buy and hodl it for the long haul and get your rewards later with the price double in 2018-2020.

Go against the market sentiment. Price is likely going to correct at least a little bit for rising so much in the past day or so. Right now it's at just under $4000 and i wouldn't be surprised that we see a dip down to $3700 or less first.

Buy the dips, not the highs.

I mean you could buy now but not only will you get potentially less profit you could also go into the negatives real fast if people panic dump like last time China came out with the news of banning exchanges.
its very a risky moves when buying without any knowledge regarding to what will happen in the following days, bitcoin shows another downfall and
we are ain't sure if how what's the dip and where we will going to place our entry better to keep analyzing and study the market before investing
again.
Maybe, we are staying in new cycle, even a bearish trend might be started and now just is bull trap or recovery of the price of Bitcoin after dumped to bottom price of the cycle $5,000. I think we should be waiting more time to keep safe our profit and funds.
.

Bitcoin is the best one to inverse. Many are waiting for bitcoin to increase the value of 5000$.But now again the bitcoin is get pack to  the value of 4000$.This reflect the further raise of bitcoin price in Chennai. But last week the the reduce below 4000$.Now it's Back to the value of 4000$.The price will further increase.

The price of bitcoins is playing but it touches down at 4000$ this morning and go stable for the rate of 3960$ and this is a good sign since we have a strong hold that bitcoins will recover again and maybe will get back to 5000$ soon and lets hold and accumulate more from now so that we can earn more money if rise will came again.
Each and every value of bitcoin is considered to be an barrier and to cross the barrier the entire network support is a must. So recently the issue from China made a downfall in the value, but it started to retain in a short. Same is the requirement, because when the support increases, automatically the growth happens with it. So buy when the price falls, believing that it grows or pumps high.

I am in it for the long haul.If it gets down to 1K I wont be happy but I will hold strong with a firm belief in what this currency will do.  If it goes below 1K I will be especially unhappy but will still hold.

Sounds like you have your plan.  I wish you the best in staying your course.  Hopefully we won't go much lower.

What I found especially interesting is that he said more and more people that are buying from him are completely unfamiliar with the tech behind it.  To me that is a huge indication that a lot more people are adopting BTC as the future.  To me that means wide spread adoption is underway which of course means much higher prices.

This is indeed good to know.  It shows how many people are interested in trying to make some quick money.

As for alt currencies I have mainly invested only in ones that have a real company and have a track record.  I threw the dice at a few cheap ones as well. I believe my list has about 25 alt coins I am interested in after researching all the top picks I could find. I got 16K coins of Doge for like $12,  why not ?   Many had dropped 50-75% so I am hoping I bought  near the bottom.  Only $500 total in alt coins right now.  I am up about $40 since I bought all my picks a few days ago.  Well aware I could lose it all.

It sounds like you're doing your research, so that's good.  Looking for the ones that have good backing and have had their price beaten down is a good strategy--means they're running a good sale.  I also got some DOGE today as it's getting down to where it was before the big runup the last several months.

Hope those who are seller are only those who are late in the news about china issue..
For now better to wait for the price become stable again before we can take an action .

Should I just look at is a long term investment like gold and buy now ?

the price is oscillating and can fall to 3800 or 3600 or can rise to 4300 and remain in that zone until some great news arises

you should also see that at the end of the year there is not much volatility, the price does not rise too much and in November there is another big problem that will affect the price of bitcoin, probably the price will fall as many alts will fall, so save your money to buy in November

Buy now and buy again if it dips ?

I already answered that question and hopefully it might be of some help

If you're looking for long term investment, just buy bitcoin whenever dips happen, but $4000 still convenience entry point.
But, why through localbitcoins? there are a lot of exchanges which offers cheaper price compare to localbitcoins, depend on where you live? unless, there is no any local exchange in your country.
There are good news about bitcoin acceptance as alternative payment method such as https://news.bitcoin.com/south-africas-second-largest-supermarket-chain-pick-n-pay-trials-bitcoin-payments/ and
https://news.bitcoin.com/aliant-payment-systems-partners-with-bitpay-to-enable-bitcoin-transactions/
No matter what, bitcoin price will increase over time, even though there are some uncertain news about it.

Thanks

I would not suggest buying in right now. Even though i believe we are going to go on and possibly break $5k, i think that there will be cheaper points in time for you to buy especially if you aren't going to plan on selling any time soon.

China is probably going to keep coming out with FUD and when they do, markets will panic. That's the perfect time for you to buy.

Never buy with emotions. I know that right now, everything is going up and you feel like buying, which is absolutely normal. But it is much more likely that we'll see a level at around $2500-3500 range which is a good $500-1500 lower per coin than the current price soon at which point you can accumulate for the long term.

Good advice. Wait for some Fud or selloffs, plenty to come this September.

Don't trade with your emotions. However i do feel like rightn ow is a good buying spot if you want to accumulate for the short run. The price should easily break $5000 in a few days/weeks without any issues, as the Chinese FUD has settled down.

But if you want to buy long term i wouldn't suggest buying all now. It could end up to be a profit-killer.

Split your money up into like 100 portions. Buy 1 portion every single day for 100 days. I have a feeling that after this current bull run we may experinece some major corrections/pullbacks that drive us to sub-$3000 which makes an excellent buying opportunity.

Being firm with your goal to hold your coins for the long term is a great thing, but you should always have fiat aside that you can use to buy with in case the price tanks far below the $2000 level. I never see a dump as something negative, because at the end of the day, it's a great opportunity to increase your holdings at lower levels, plus you can lower your average buying price this way. Glady for you, this 'ship' will not sink, but keep rushing further throughout the years. Bitcoin is a way to beat the governmental and banking system, allows people to enjoy financial freedom, functions as store value, 24/7 global remittance tool, etc - even the average joe's will at some point understand this.

Buying or not buying at the moment, I think that is a question what the personal strategy for the investment is.
When somebody expects bitcoin to go to 100K in a few years, it really does not matter a lot if he buys at 3K or 5K.
If somebody trades frequently, he uses the small ups and downs of a few percent. To him the buy price does not matter much either, because he will soon sell again after the price has raised a bit.
The only group that should really take a close look at the buy price are those who want to hold it for just a few months.
In that time period the price can go down and might not have recovered at the point where the selling is planned.

Well the guy I was buying from had 10 BTC at 4100 per coin. Price at point of transaction was at 3950. I went for it and bought and even 2 coins ! Grin    I feel his 4% fee is reasonable. Most other sellers are marking up 7-10% some even higher. He told me of one user selling them for 40% over market !!  User had good rating and lots of transactions too.    Crazy IMO.

You just found out the hard way that people in crypto can be absolute snakes. Same is true on this forum.

As to your question: Don't buy at $4200.  You can find a better deal if you're patient, and you absolutely should be patient.  Don't be a panic buyer, else you'll regret it.  Sign up on an exchange if you're able to and buy it that way. Or check the currency exchange section here. You're a noob but you might find someone willing to deal with you.

I also recommend using an exchange if you can--obviously use a reputable one.  You'll probably get a better price.  And while this hopefully will never happen, if for some reason you should need to get out of your position quickly, you'll have the ability to do that.  It's always good to have options and be prepared for anything that might go wrong.

Thank you guys.  Right now I am planning for long term investing 5+ years. Buy it and forget it.  Dollar cost averaging.   I plan to buy 1 - 1/2 coins today.  I figure it has only recovered 50% of what the peak was. Would have a harder time if it was 5K again.

I firmly believe in the currency and truly believe  it will go to 20k-100K per coin in the next 5-10 years.  I ave high hopes for a lot of the alt coins too.  Especially ETH and LTE. Everything I have read LTE works WAY faster than BTC. Might take years but  believe it will also seriously increase into the thousands.
ETH seems to have even more potential for growth. Many have predicted it could overtake BTC prices.  I guess you just never know.

I was watching a video last night where a guy was talking about friend losing thousands of bitcoins on a fried hard drive years ago. Wasnt a big deal then. So many people out there must have dumped or lost so many coins.  I read 25% are estimated to be lost forever. Shocked   How many billions of dollars is that  ?

It;s just too stressful. My hope is that bitcoin will goes only up and my alt portfolio as well, but still it's too early to tell is it permanent recover or just bounce over 4K.

IMO this is the ONLY way you should look at it. Period. Buy and hold for at least 4-5 years before you reassess. Live with the downturns and dips with balls of steel.

If you look at it any other way, you're just gambling and you will make costly mistakes on emotion.

It is better if you buy using only 1/4 of what you intend to use so that when it dips you will still have some fiat left to buy bitcoin. It is better if you look for short term investment first OP because right now there are many things going on centered around bitcoin and those affects bitcoin price day by day. You should look into long term investment when btc already got stable for months and when we haven't seen any action for more than 1 and a half month.

My first rule in trading is that before you start with a trade, you should have an entry and exit plan. People tend to differ with their plans especially when it comes to buying and selling BTC. My advice for you, as you are new to this industry, is to plan for long-term investment and buy now. Please take note that when I say buy now, use only a percentage of your whole capital. For example, with the current price right now, I could say that you should use 30% of your money allotted to Bitcoin investment and use it. The remaining 70% will be used for any future opportunities when the price move down. Don't put all your money in a single trade.

When you think that the bulls are in control, you could buy again with 10% of your money. Market will always be unpredictable and you should always prepare on what's gonna happen with it. If you believe in the technology of BTC, don't panic sell when there's a dip in price, instead buy more.

Be careful with alts, they're good for short term profits but rarely outperform Bitcoin long term.

That being said, in my personal opinion you'll be able to get cheaper coins in a few days, possibly as low as USD 3100,-. However, if you feel that you could fall into the trap of panic buying should BTC break north of USD 4500,-, I'd follow CoinsCoinsEverywhere's advice of buying in incrementally.

Today price of bitcoin is already 4000 dollars and Im very happy because they reach again that price . I think the possible price of bitcoin before end of this month is 5k dollars and possinle price before end of this year in 2017 is 6k upto7k dolllars . So if you have extra money in your pocket its better to buy bitcoin and for sure you will earn profit because for sure bitcoin price will increase more.

Perhaps there will be marginally better times to buy in the near future but is it worth risking saving a few hundred bucks when on the flip side bitcoin could potentially push through 5k and to an all time high?
That's true , just make sure you did not go allin!
The situation not really stable yet , i think there's still a possibility for bitcoin to get dropped again ,
Still there's no harm to take a risk to gain profit later ,
Do it now and be ready for something bad coming , fair enough to keep buying at current rates.

It is your biggest regret about bitcoin that you thought bitcoin is a joke but today bitcoin proves that you was wrong. and the matter of buying bitcoin,  i think bitcoin finally raise up,  by avoiding all restriction. and i think bitcoin will be raised up from now and possibly cross 6000$... so its good time to buy...

I think you need to decide how you're going to approach bitcoin and stick with it.  If you're looking at it as a long-term investment, then you shouldn't worry so much about exactly where you buy it.  And I would suggest buying in incrementally so that you can get more at a lower price if it drops.  If it continues to go up, then keep buying some on the pullbacks.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure that you really are ok with losing whatever you invest.  You don't want to lose sleep over your investment if price drops.  You need to be comfortable with whatever you buy so that you can make rational decisions in times of market panic and market euphoria.  Otherwise, you'll be tempted to follow the rest of the market into those traps.

Thanks
