Privacy and security concerns ZEC is the best coin which is coded with the C completely and mining options these both coins were rocking along with the ethereum mining.
For long term investment also Monero and Zcash are fine coin to go with.

Privacy I go with ZEC even they technical team.

I'm going to go ahead and say that Monero (XMR) is a much better choice than ZEC.

Which do you feel has an overall brighter prospect for the future?

In my opinion it is XMR, from a technical and team point of view.

However, once confidential transactions are implemented on to Bitcoin, it is hard to see purpose for any other privacy coin.

I'm going to go ahead and say that Monero (XMR) is a much better choice than ZEC.

Why? Because:
  • XMR has a more active development team than ZEC
  • the XMR dev team is community-oriented instead of profit oriented
  • XMR consistently forks to steer away from ASICs

stay away in ZEC and XMR so we don't know how to survive in future market. But XMR is well known altcoin so finally everyone conclude the XMR. The ZEC is little lower than the market reputation so XMR is won the battle.

"Because the website did not accept traditional payment methods, Cazes possessed more than $8.8 million in cryptocurrencies pooled across 1,605.05 bitcoins, 8,309.27 ether, 3,691.98 zcash and an unknown amount of monero, the financial statement indicated."

I saw this and I suppose there would be no reason not to be inclined to agree with it. Smiley

I recently converted all my ZEC to XMR.

The recent market is prove the altcoins potential so future possibilities of altcoin is little difficult to grow in the market. Without a doubt I would say XMR is the number one privacy looking forward to the future. As you say, not only team- and technical wise, but also community-wise. The XMR community is very passionate about the project, which is an important aspect for any crypto

Privacy, this is a very complex discipline. To achieve it, counting only on a coin, I would not. You need to consider everything, for it is very easy to leave a trace on the Internet, according to which you can be identified. Of these two coins, I prefer Monero.

It's worth mentioning that there's currently some rumours that Zcash could be added to Coinbase, though there are only rumours and speculations, this is creating a bit of hype given how everytime a crypto gets added to exchanges, it gets pumped a lot. Might be a good time to get some Zcash now that its price has gone down.

In terms of privacy I also think that Monero is the indiscutible winner here. On the other hand, if you want to speculate only, Zcash may be the winner in the short term.

BTW, what do you think on other low caps like DeepOnion? I've heard a lot about it and researching a bit on the project it seems that they're working in a good product too. Anybody knows the pros and cons compared with the two big alts we're talking about? on the other hand, the low cap of the coin makes me think that if the market bounces back it may be a very good vehicle for investment, although the most risky of the three discussed here.

I'll go with Monero. It is widely used by merchants, not only in the darknet markets but also in the clear net as more and more every day are concerned about privacy and anonymity and Monero offers the best of both worlds.

Zcash offers transactions like Bitcoin, which is a big advantage over Monero in terms transparency that some people require in the cryptosphere (exchanges, for instance), while in Monero, all transactions are hidden. Still, when it comes to privacy, Monero is top of the line.

It's hard to tell, both projects are still developing and adding new features. BTW what do you guys think about privacy protocol that could make any cryptocurrency transaction untracable? I think if anyone could make such protocol, it would besically made all privacy coins obsolete.

First as your title says we talk about privacy and neglect Trusted setup that is a no go for ZEC.  At privacy. ZEC is currently a Bitcoin. 0.3% of transactions are not transparent.  If Bitcoin will add privacy features will be like ZEC. It wil never be like Monero.

CT doesn't fix taint, which means coinbase or any other exchanges following KYC/AML will lock you out of your account on suspicion--your tx will stick out like a sore thumb. Optional privacy is the same thing that plagues ZEC, so until it and BTC add mandatory privacy,  XMR wins easily.
