Government crackdown?  Bitcoin don't care.  It doesn't give a shit.  Nothing can stop the bitcoin network.

. . . do I need to understand the code or can I just do educated guesses?
Now there's a good idea.  Perhaps a humorous video making educated guesses at what the code might do?

Heck if it's entertaining enough and you include a bitcoin address with the video, I might even tip you a bit.

I suggest Terry Pratchett enters the competition: " Now this line of code calls a magical gnome, which runs through your internet cable to the blockchain, and writes your transaction in the next block"

Sounds like more than 40 hours of work to me.

Less than 0.25 BTC per hour?  Sorry my time is worth more to me than that.  I suspect that most programmers who have the talent to explain the bitcoin source code in an easy to understand manner are going to value their time more than that as well.

Perhaps for 600 BTC I might consider it.

I am opening a contest to reward with 10 BTC the best screencast explaining the bitcoin source code.
It is recommended all lines of code must be showed on the screencast and that you comment all the code as you go along in the most sequenced or logical order you can find for it to become as much understandable as possible and that you make good referencing to the protocol specification, Satoshi paper, and so, as to make it a very comprehensive whole.
It is suggested that it is aimed to all sorts of audiences, though the more prepared may naturally understand it much better.

To participate you only need to reply on this thread with youtube video link and bitcoin address where you want to receive the 10 BTC in case you are the winner with that participation.

The contest closes this New Year's eve and I shall decide the winner and send the 10 BTC prize on the 1st of January 2013 till 10pm GMT.

Good Luck!
