Thanks again everyone!

The problem was that there is a difference between online image hosting and online file storage.

Now I know that and I have posted a few pictures elsewhere.

I have a problem with images not posting.

I only just made it to Jr Member status and have not posted an image successfully, yet.

I try to follow the instructions here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.37748469

However, the images show up as : Bitcointalk.org image proxy: Invalid image

The link I am using is this: https://drive.proton.me/urls/T6WS4KN898#R3RZei8w1qwf
I think the problem is with the website where you uploaded your image. please try to re-upload your image on another site like imgur or others. and try again to post it here. and if it still fails (invalid). then please check your image size (mb). because what I experienced is that images on this forum are easier to display if they have a file size of under 2 mb. eg 1.99 mb.

but I think your image is already small for the file size. so the problem is with the website where you are uploading.

and if based on your rank who is already a Jr member. then you should be able to post pictures.

so conclusion:
~Try reducing the image file size again if it is still above 2 mb.

~try re-uploading the image on another website. like imgur.

or this (neither of them work):

I also tried adding '.png' after the ProtonDrive link, but get the same result.

beginners are often not able to display images on the forum, I also don't know why,
maybe I don't know the rules or don't know how.

After learning how to post images successfully you should also learn how to properly size them images not to become too bogus.
Because of your new rank you do not need to be under any form of pressure to post an image, it is not the must and that there must be images posted in your profile. There are members who have been here for a long time and have not posted any image on their profile. Images are to Promote understanding of a post.

I have not tried imgur but after observing some images in the forum, I concluded that that website is the best. I have to devise a means to register because their services is not offered at my location.
I often find image source links from imgur in every post, I also recommend using it because image sources can be accessed for a longer period of time than other sites, I think imgur is listed for all locations and if it is blocked maybe you can access it using a VPN .

Well bitcointalk doesn’t like all uploaders sites so you should choose good ones, most of experienced users here are using only few websites and the good thing is some websites are keeping the pictures for so long and since the bitcointalk was created
Personally i love using postimages.org

The few features postimages has are so useful for resizing your pictures without using any editor, and also a date of expiration if you want the picture to disappear. That’s my suggestion but also read other experienced users for more and better solutions

To post image on the forum is very simple, and here is how it goes by using this website I will be showing you below..
First you have to visit this website.. www.imgbb.com

1. You just have to select an image you want
2. Upload the image you just selected
3. Change the bbcode to "Bbcode full link"
4. Copy the link and bring it to Bitcoinalk forum
5. Paste the link you just copied in the comment box and post..
6. Image is ready for display.. That's all

Example...

My advice is to use imgur, imgbb is suck since there's few moment the images is error and it will show "Bitcointalk.org image proxy: Invalid image" even though the images is appeared before and yo're using the correct BBCode. Don't forget there's a limitation to upload an image, the maximum is only 2MB, if you upload higher than 2MB the images will error too.
You are correct @Solosanz, imgbb is not reliable. At first, the pictures would be valid and okay but after a few hours or days, the images would show that they image is invalid. And the most challenging part of the situation is that there is no known reason for this. At first, I thought that it was because I didn't register but it persisted after registration.

I have not tried imgur but after observing some images in the forum, I concluded that that website is the best. I have to devise a means to register because their services is not offered at my location.

First problem if you are from newbie then your post will not get image view.

Secondly you need to use extra one apps ""photo uploder""
You have to get the link from here and place the link between the BB code. If you post in this way, you will definitely get image visits to your post.

yes, this issue was also discussed, when DireWolfM14 created a thread Trouble posting images? Imgbb doesn't seem good anymore and there is often a problem after a few reloads. sometimes can be seen, sometimes also error.
the best alternative that many recommend is Imgur. it's free and there's no problem using it. The simple interface is even very easy to learn for beginners.

With my understanding I think a jr member should be able to post images and since you're not getting the expected results i think something is wrong somewhere that you're not doing it as expected, i will recommend you with this two threads to read better and understand how posting an image is required in addition to the ones suggested already from members.
Right junior member can post images on the forum but the problem @OP is facing is from the image hosting site which is showing the error as this happens sometimes or if the link is not embedded correctly it also shows the same error but that don't seems to be the case with @OP.

The problem is probably with the website you are using for hosting images.
Try it a with a different image hosting website like imgur.com. It should work without any problem.

You can also use imgbb.com and postimages.org as alternatives to imgur.
I was using imgbb from long time to host images before but in past few months there were problem with images not displaying and same invalid proxy error was showing which forced me to shift to postingimages.org which is really good alternative on my side and have never faced any issue then so advice to use it and can get direct links and many other types of Bbcode and is good site to host images.

OP things will be easier for you if you can download imgur app on your phone, this is what I use for any image related posts, go to Google playstore and search for imgur app or go to https://imgur.com and you will see Get App by the right down of your screen, it will direct you to download link.

Yep this true i have been using imgbb for a couple years and it works fine in this forum.

I usually logged in so i can find what images that i have uploaded it
I don't know maybe I'm wrong, but when I want to use ImgBB and copy the full-size BB code. the problem usually occurs, it seems without problems when using BB code with a small size.
currently prefer to use Imgur. although have to manually adjust the image size to look better.

I think imgur or ImgBB have no problem since they are free image hosting sites. Just make sure you upload images when not logged in if you are concerned about your privacy (The only downside is that you won't be able to delete the image once it's uploaded)

You are using direct link from drive. Here are some steps to show your image on this forum.

First of all open this link on any browser.
https://imgbb.com/upload

You will see this when you open above link

Upload the photo which you want to show by clicking the arrow.

When photo uploaded you will see a option there.Embed Codes

After clicking Embed Code option. Select the option which is given in photo.

When you select BBCode Full option, below you will see the full code and just copy that and paste here in the forum. Your image will be shown to everyone.

Here will be the copy Option.

Note: Only Jr. Members and above rank can post an image.

Tried little bit. Hope you understand.  Wink

When I click on the link, it opens a download link. But maybe that only works for me because I am logged in to Protonmail at the moment.
The image that you should include in the image tag should be a direct link (with image extension e.g .png, jpg) of the image, that means after clicking the url it will redirect to the image and nothing in there except the image.
That's why it shows "Invalid image" because it still needs to download on the page after clicking the url.

Try to understand and follow other recommendations thread, linked above.

-snip- I also tried adding '.png' after the ProtonDrive link, but get the same result.
Image extensions such as PNG, JPEG or others cannot simply be added to a file, including the Proton drive link. The link doesn't work because it doesn't exist on the image hosting server.

I re-uploaded an image from the Proton drive to Imgur. I try to fix the code arrangement in the image link.

Sorry buddy.....   Cheesy
I was totally disappointed, just as you are, when I realized that I couldn't post images for a start ...yeah, actually, that's impossible.
Everyone said imgur, yeah? That'll be fine too.
You'll just have to follow up the instructions and fix up a photograph (whatsoever), that doesn't exit the picture- size limit, then you're good to go. Well, I wasn't really comfortable with imgur -- not that anything happened though but, I just loved imgbb; I'm dropping a link so could follow for preference.

Actually if you have account in imgur you have option to make uploaded image hidden unlike without an account. It won't go into public if you didn't click the "make public" its hidden only in imgur but if you share the image outside the imgur its viewable without info related to your account. So its safe if you concern about privacy.

I was hoping to avoid using some image sharing site that will start to demand payment once I have invested significant effort. That happened to me with photobucket a few years back and I don't want a repeat of that, hence my attempt to use ProtonDrive.

ProtonDrive may be a good cloud storage provider, but it was never intended as image hosting. Although you can share your files publicly via a link, ProtonDrive will never provide you with a direct URL for the image to be able to post images on the forum. As already mentioned, Imgur and Imgbb are probably the two oldest and most popular services for free image hosting. They have a long history so there is no reason to fear that you might run into problems in the future. Even if you encounter some kind of restrictions during free use, you can simply change your IP address or use a VPN because no registration is required.

You have a problem with your image URL. I tried opening the URL in a new window and it does not work. It has nothing to do with the forum. Try using a different image hosting service.

Obviously, you cannot create a valid image URL by appending the .jpg or .png extension to a random string of characters.

To post image is not hard. On your computer, or set your mobile browser to web or desktop mode and visit https://imgur.com/upload. You will see what you will click on to upload image. After the image has been uploaded, click at the top right corner of the image, you will see three dots, click on it, click on 'get shared links' and finally copy BBCode (forums) link which is the link you will paste here on this forum.

On the link you post above, you can see how you can adjust the height and width like this:

Code:
[img height=200 width=180]https://i.imgur.com/AlkgxPt.jpg[/img]

That is an image of a scam site, but the one that is very close to me to upload as an example.
