you could check it using a multimeter, make sure your PSU produce the right voltage, or else you can try using Relay Adapter Connector to connect two PSU.

I always count max GPU power consumption (TDP), also another part such as a Riser power, Processor, RAM+SSD (even they only need a small power), additional fan (if we are using it) to pick PSU.

You could try to plug four GPU, two cards powered by PSU that you are using for the mobo, and the other two cards using the other one PSU. Riser power using PSU no 2.

YAZ, we tried to connect the SSD on on the 5v too, the one we use for the system, even so it shuts down and crashes.

Giveen1, we tried connecting with the molex but the problem still persists, I didn't know about the SATA wattage, we will make sure to change even the ones we're running now. The BIOS is up to date, we are using Gen1, not sure if it's the best but we tried Gen2 and the hashrate stayed the same so we left at that.


YAZ, we connect the green cable with the black one, and we tried putting a dummy load on the 5v but it was a led, we coudn't power a 12v light bulb and didn't have anything other than that to test, what do you suggest?

Make sure your jumpstart PSU produce correct voltage. Did you connect green cable (16) with the black one (com)? All you need to do is connect green and black to turn it on and put a dummy load on 5V (red and black) to make the 12V rail the right voltage.


PCIe 16x will supply max 75W and PCIe 1x will supply max 25W. if SATA cable supplying 55W, did PCIe 1x to USB in riser will supply 25W?

Please, don't use the sata adapters, as they are not rated for the power requirement. SATA only pulls 55W and 75W is needed for the PCI-E slot. Is your BIOS up to date? Any option to turn on PCI-E Gen1 or Gen2?

but we tried connecting with molex cable as well.

We start the second PSU before the main one when jumpstarted, and we put the risers with their respective GPUs on the same power supply but the problem continues.

Riser and GPU should be on the same PSU, meaning if GPU1/Riser 1 on PSU1, GPU2/Riser 2 on PSU1, GPU3/Riser 3 on PSU1

and then GPU4/Riser 4 on PSU2, etc etc...down the line.

What kind of connector for power to the riser are you using?


Since you said you are not using a dual-PSU link cable, make sure to start the secondary PSU (the one not plugged into the motherboard) first, then power up the one that powers the motherboard.

I've set up a mining rig for Ethereum with a friend of mine and we are having a problem with the power supplies.
Our rig consists of :



6 x RX570 4GB PowerColor Red Dragon
Mobo Gigabyte H110-D3A
Mem. 4GB VETEKE
SSD Kingston 120GB
CPU - Celeron G3930
6 x Riser cards v006

2 x EVGA 650 GOLD 80+ 100-GD-0650


We managed to get the bios working, alongside with the updated GPU drivers, the mobo supports UEFI, partition GPT, Windows 10
and we are running Claymore Dual-Miner Eth/Dcr.



When we start up the system everything works fine, all the GPUs and the two PSUs are powered, the system runs smooth, no Windows crashes or any other problem, but when we start Claymore the second PSU shuts down along with everything connected, the main PSU works fine.



The secondary PSU is now being jump-started by the paperclip method, but with a standard cable, we tried the adapter, and we tried connecting other cables in the adapter fashion directly on the 24pin cable of the first, whatever we do the problem stays the same.

The problem isn't only when starting Claymore tho, if we open MSI Afterburner and try to modify even the fan on the GPUs that are connected to the secondary power, it shuts down. We tried to underclock the GPUs, we tried biosmod, and we tried stock.

Now we are using only the first PSU with 3 GPUs, it works fine, all of them overclocked and biosmodded, and the same PSU stands the Mobo, the risers and the SSD without a problem and a stable hashrate all day long. We tried swapping the PSUs and both of them work fine when they are the main one. The GPUs are powered by 8/6+2 PCI-e cable.

We tried putting all the risers on the main PSU, we tried not putting risers on a different PSU than their respective GPUs, we tried putting only one riser on the secondary PSU and still shuts down, even with only one card connected to it it shuts down. We tried connecting the SSD to the secondary, it shuts down and crashes the system. We also tried changing the surface where the all the parts are, and it still gives us the same problem even in a wooden table.



If someone had a similar problem using two PSUs on any kind of system, or can share some insight on the matter, we would gladly appreciate it! We are willing to try everything that we could get our hands on, we searched the internet about it for days, we tried everything we could to make this work, feel free to ask more about anything on the setup that could help you enlighten us!
