127 is a "bug" value. It means the driver has crashed and is reporting nonsense. It does not actually mean the temperature is 127.

I purchased a used 6870 where someone had remounted the HSF improperly I believe and basically the thermal paste was baked right off the card - it behaved as you have described. After I re-applied a new thermal pad and remounted the HSF properly it no longer behaves improperly.
It's good to know I wasn't the only one lol Maybe I should regrease all my cards as a preventative measure

Glad it is working for you.  Still, it does not explain why cgminer did not detect your cutoff and shutdown mining.

Locking up the whole system and going past 120C does not seem right.

If you have debug logs from those runs, post them somewhere.
Unfortunately I don't have debug logs Sad Usually my cards run in the low 60's, the faulty card never felt any warmer than the other cards. I'm glad I figured it out, it's been driving me crazy for weeks.

Fan is set to auto. I think the problem is fixed, I put a 5830 in GPU 0, reapplied thermal paste to the faulty card and seated it in GPU 3 and it's been running great since. Maybe the thermal paste was bad? IDK but it seems to be working fine now lol

CGMiner 2.3.6

I've been having an issue with GPU 0, it will mine good for a few mins then all of a sudden CGMiner will report a temp of 127c and lock up the whole computer. It doesn't matter if the cards run at stock or OC'd, it happens either way. I've since pulled the card and replaced it with a spare 5750 I have just to see if it's a problem with the card or a problem with the computer.

Has anybody else had this happen?

Also, It's happened with CGminer 2.3.2 and 2.3.4
