Thanks for the explanation D&T. Now that I think of it, I remember when I was using my armory wallet it would immediately add on the transaction fee to the amount sent.
Your problem is with Vault of Satoshi who is processing tx is an utterly incompetent manner not overstock.
VoS should be sending the exact amount you request AND THEN deducting any tx fees from the remaining balance in your account/wallet. This is how all competent wallets operate. Instead they are deducting the fee from the amount you request and sending what is left over. So using VoS the receiver will always receive less than what is sent (by the amount of the tx fee).

I sent it from my vaultofsatoshi exchange wallet. The amount that it says was sent in there is exactly the amount that was requested, but I did click on the transaction and there was a small fee deducted. What wallet do you use to send the funds? Most wallet software will send the amount you enter and take the tx fee from what remains, so that the recipient always receives the amount you enter. But some exchanges and other web-services deduct the fee (which can be higher than just the network fee) from the amount you enter.
You can always check how much was actually sent to Overstock by looking up the payment address on a block explorer.

I decided to try out purchasing some items with bitcoin on Overstock.com but I'm running into problems. I sent the exact amount of BTC requested to pay for my purchase but I got an error saying that I sent the wrong amount. I assume this has something to do with transaction fees? So a small amount was deducted for the transaction from my wallet to Overstock's wallet.
So I got my money refunded and tried again. Assuming that the transaction fee is anywhere from 0.0001 to 0.0005 (to the best of my knowledge), I paid 0.0008 BTC over the requested amount. However I still received the "wrong BTC amount sent" error. Can somebody explain what the issue is?
