Again, what happens if I create links and fix all the profiles? Is there any good side?
You don't need to create accounts for that ancient communications platform that nobody uses today.

Should I use my own age, or the age of joining the forum?
Age and all other information are private information but you can write them if you want and if you don't care about privacy.

What location should I use? My country or current location.
No need for entering your location or country, you can even enter Mars if you want.

Feel free to input all of that information you want too if you are trying to be legit go for it but I guess one of the most important is you are ready or aware of the possible spam that came from unknown people because you show your information to them. You have a free will to make it anonymous or not.

Also, the Bitcoin talk forum has a birthday feature if you want to receive a cake on your birthday you can add it too.

The forum has some questions about my profile.

Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

OP, if it suddenly happens that you become a very popular person, and we were all on the same forum with you at that time, then knowing your social network contacts will make us cool dudes.
Someone knew Satoshi and still knows his contacts, and we will tell everyone that we taught A_L  to fill out his profile.
Be sure to fill in all your details. Social networks with phone numbers and addresses. And also post your photo.
Who knows, and what the hell is not joking, maybe we are talking here with the future star.

There's literally no point to provide such information unless you're the Admin who gets wishes for happy birthday.  Tongue

Even so, we aren't sure that anyone receiving birthday wishes are even genuine with what they put as their birth data, also it's adjustable, so I think the forum gives you free hands to fine tune it as you want.
Nevertheless reputation on the forum has nothing to do with those data, but you testimony on the forum which can be from your merit or better still your trust rating tags, I don't even check some of those data in some people's profile, I think I have seen post like an argument of theymos birth data, but what's not arguable is his trust and Merit which are very exciting.

-snip-
I want to use the right one.
That's your birthday that can be set in "Profile->Forum Profile Information->Birthdate"
Fun Fact: the forum will display a cake slice in your profile on that date.

Most people who prefer including their location, put their country there.
You wouldn't want the internet to know your exact home address even though you prefer to have your personal info in your profile.

What are the problems if I do not use the links in my profile in the forum, such as-
ICQ:
AIM:
MSN:
YIM:
There are no problems. These fields aren't used by the majority of the accounts. Pretty reasonable; who has an MSN in 2021? The script of this forum was written in 2006 and messengers such as MSN and ICQ were a thing back then.

Should I use my own age, or the age of joining the forum?

What location should I use? My country or current location.
If you have something to sell or even prove your trustworthiness, then you should use your current location. It is completely optional.

The forum advices or should I say the crypto space entails you to be as discreet as you can be but then, it provides fields that are not a compulsory but requires filling according to your own discretion if you see it to be of obvious advantage for variant reasons as it could serve as a form of advertisement for you and your enterprise should you have one.

Never the less, most of us choose to live it vacant probably because we don't have the need for those details or for some privacy reasons and that's all though, its not all that bad for providing them. It's clearly optional so, your at liberty to do as you please. Little wonder why there were very few required details for opening an account on the forum.

To make the answer to your questions short:
You are completely free to provide this information or not. You can theoretically even enter any fun or fake data. I have already seen that with some users here. If you don't fill in the data, it won't have any disadvantages for you.

In fact, you could even use a false e-mail address.
Ensure that your fake email address can't be generated. There was at least one instance where users opted for gmail accounts which were never created and it was displayed publicly. An attacker created the email, reset the account and gained access to it. It'll be far better to generate an email yourself, generate some random passwords and leave it there. If you're not planning to use the email as a way to recover your account.

<…> you could even use a false e-mail address <…>
Perhaps the email is one item I’d keep real and controlled by the user, since it is used to receive forum notifications and referenced in the recovering hacked/lost accounts procedure. Having said that, I’d also keep the "Hide email address from public?" profile option ticked (that is the default setting).

One could then discuss what sort of email account to use (some offer more privacy features and/or guarantees in relation to mainstream domain free accounts), but due to the above, it’s probably better to provide one you can actually control instead of a fake one.

Providing information to each of it is not used in this forum unless you wanted to. It may be used if you have service to offer like being an escrow for people doing transactions and they need to contact you if they choose you to escrow their transaction but in your case, this won't happen if you are not trusted (trust must be gained first). You can check my profile to see that I didn't even bother updating each details to the real one and I only use whatever I wanted to input as it is not necessarily to put real details. Actually, there is no good side of doing this unless you have a service like I said or you might get scammed through phishing by sending it to your personal details like email.

The only good side may be if you are a business or a seller on the forum.  Users around here may trust you more if they have a feeling of knowing who you are.  Unless you plan doing business over here, I highly recommend that you do not share personal information with us.  Even if you were to do deals and stuff, it does not mean you have to share sensitive information anyway.

Set your profile to whatever you feel.  There is no importance in having real information on the profile or not but the internet is full of scammers, doxxers, thieves etc so as DdmrDdmr said, the more private you are, the better it is in the long run.  In fact, you could even use a false e-mail address.

If interested, you could check out the forum's Privacy information page: https://bitcointalk.org/privacy.php

The information you provide is up to you, but it really bears no real significance. You can leave it blank, make up the data, or use your real one. From the forum’s perspective, it is completely irrelevant (i.e. the forum does not use that information at all). Nevertheless, from a privacy point of view, you may not wish to provide information such as your real location, true age (date of birth), and social media channels (old as those provided may be). All in all, it’s something that is completely up to you. Over time, you get to believe that the more private the better.
