They could have simply implemented a BTC symbol skin, as they did with doge.
As for agar.io, it's simple, but certainly not dumb. It's a reference to the Agar plate (it's a bacteria growth medium)... So the "background" where you move in the game is Agar, and the "balls" are all bacteria
Pretty nice analogy. Agar is basically a Petri dish which contains some growth medium to culture microorganisms. It's not dumb in anyway because there are some references to the name, it's just that people tend to only notice the circles alone and not the name that it stands for. Also, notice that if you put blank space on your name, once you climbed to the leaderboard, you'll see that it will display you as 'An unnamed cell', another biological reference. So all in all, the field in which the cells are moving to is the Agar plate and the players that are in it are the bacteria; the small circles you begin to eat are the 'nutrients' that are already present in the Agar dish.

Isn't there an actual BTC skin already? I think when I played back in the day I saw an orange BTC logo. Maybe someone managed to write the B unicode symbol thing as a nickname? weird. I think it's a good idea to promote the coin. Tons and tons of people play the game and you always pay attention to who is 1º.
I also once played with a bitcoin symbol, though I'm not sure how did the player do that. A unicode would be nice since we can all play with the symbol,, but the orange color couldn't be always present with the unicode because every time you die, the color of the cell you are playing changes.
