The most merited threads are deemed to be the most useful/interesting, right?

No.

Then people are not using merit the right way.
The merit should be used for useful/ meritorious contributions

New account = No merit = Creates thread = No one reads = No merit got = Newbies restricted to just posting replies

So tell me again, why should we make it harder for newbies to use this forum where the real reason merit was implemented was to curb useless spamming.

Anyways, you've added your 2 cents, I've acknowledged your contribution to my thread. Thank you for participating.

Or you can just click those squared in red just like what you see on the image below. I guess those are all the same on every boards.
It will be in ascending or descending order just by clicking it, just found those couple of days ago while exploring the forum. Hope that helps!

Clicking those will not sort by freshness.

No God or Kings, only BITCOIN.
You can already do it like this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=24.0;sort=first_post;desc

Just add ;sort=first_post;desc to any board URL.

Edit: made it "descending" because it seems that's what you want. But you can remove ;desc to make it ascending order.

I like your "date created" suggestion, however, I think the "total merited" column would be an even better addition to the forum.
With said new column, you can at first glance see which thread are worthwhile reading.

But since the Epochtalk software is being developed and possibly available in the next few months (before the end of the year) I don't know if it will be taken into consideration.

That'd instantly stall any newbie from making any threads because he'll never get any clicks on the face value of the thread.

Every thread, no matter how stupid the content, deserves to be looked at, at least once, even if it is to simply discredit the content.

Well,
With the new sorting column, any newbie could go to the Beginner section and have a look to the most merited threads.

As a matter of fact, there are quite a few very good thread (well merited) that haven't had a reply in weeks and they are located on page 3 or 4...

Anyway, this was just my 2 cents

Is this just a url code trick? Or is there a button somewhere that I'm missing?

There is no button sadly. You can create a makeshift "button" by bookmarking the URL though.

That's probably what I'll do.

So I change my petition to request the addition of a button with this functionality. I'm sure this thread would be buried soon and many people will never know.

You can already do it like this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=24.0;sort=first_post;desc

Just ;sort=first_post;desc to any board URL.

Damn! Thanks.

The way this and any forum works has not changed in a while.

People create new threads and the ones with the most amount of continuous posts stays on top.

While this works out great but it becomes increasingly difficult to read new threads based off its freshness.

So here's my proposal to Theymos; add a 'Date created' column before the 'Last Post' column.

edit :
Add this functionality to a button on every child board :

Just add ;sort=first_post;desc to any board URL.

It will make the life of someone who reads here on a daily basis so much easier.

And most importantly it would be a non-disruptive way to un-bury those posts that gets buried due to signature spam.

PS: I am not aware of any similar requests before, so if there are other requests and they have been addressed already, kindly let me know.
