I already see altcoiners complaining about censorship and bias on Bitcointalk but I also support this idea.

A lot of alts and ICOs are mere cashgrabs and many newcomers are not aware of the vast altcoin ecosystem and its perils (eg. "I've heard X will become the next Bitcoin" without being aware that there are literally thousands of coins and tokens aiming at the throne) so I believe a heads up would be appropiate. Sure it won't prevent people from getting scammed and people love to ignore warnings, but as long as it leads to some people reflecting on the matter before pulling the trigger on that shiny new lottery ticket alt coin it's imho worth it.
Honestly ICO scam has been increased dramatically. As a investor I always follow bitcointalk Altcoin sections ANN thread to be sure before investmen. I think its same for the others too. There are many members who always trying to catch scam ICO projects and let everyone to know about it. But their efforts got no value if investors put their fund before exposing.

That's why if a warning message shows on this section then it may create a caution on investors mind before their final investment.

There is a red warning "Warning: Trade with extreme caution!" on the accounts of scammers members and a lot of red numbers, but nevertheless they can scam newbies using the same accounts.

Yes they can as not all newbies know how to check trust ratings or how it works. And not every scammer has a negative trust. In many cases they scam someone before getting tagged. Op's suggestion is trying to reduce scams, and prevent them from happening. And I subscribe to it. The rate of scams has increased, and we need to sensitize the community.

These investor take the forum as a source of guideline for their investment.

Here's were the problem is coming from, you shouldn't rely on forum as a point of guideline since everyone is free to give an opinion and there isn't an official guidelines. If I'm not mistaking those projects also provide other social media handle, why aren't the said guidelines seeker taking guidelines from there?.
The cryptocurrency community is a free world and everyone should take his or her security into their hands. Do research, ask questions before investing only then will you have some upper hand against the scam ico's out there.

I'm not speaking against the idea but don't you think people are relying too much on the forum?.

So anyway, I applied as a merit source :)
This forum is supposed to be a place for discussion for people who are interested in a certain cryptocurrency majority being bitcoin. Since we have an altcoin section people who are going to visit it are to do so with their own risk. Its similar to visiting the casino and being wise enough not to gamble. Someone can argue - why go there anyway? The simple reason being that it is a part of the forum.

Nobody is going to babysit you for spending your money wisely and being greedy about investing it. Its your choice what you want to put your money in. If you lose money by putting your hard earned cash in a scam/failed project then it your job to fight it back. Discussions for Altcoins is always welcome though and everyone should form their own opinions.

On that case I am agree with OP, since day by day just increasing scam. And it's true that forum could not detect scammers and could not removed likely scam post. So this kind of warning could be help users. At least warn people's is responsibility of forum like gambling section. Although we are aware about risk of ICO investment but still people's are doing that. We can't prevent them if someone want to suicide. So a warning on ANN board is appropriate in my opinion. I am not sure if I made something similar post but I have remembered I made topic there about something similar warning. But people's really even don't like to read, so I moved it on B&H section. So warning on the board is better option to like explained by OP.

It is not just a warning but an awareness.
I think a welcome message contains some lessons better than a red warning covering the entire screen.
I personally beleive that its better to try a little for worldwide investors. Its not discouraging them from ICO investment. But IMO its just a warning for them to think on their own before invest on a project. Bitcointalk has a great reputation through the whole crypto universe. So i think its not gonna harm its reputation by showing a warning in Announcements (Altcoins) section for all.

I think that a disclaimer should be enough. Something like:
Bitcointalk does not support or endorse any of the ICOs posted in this board. Bitcointalk will not be held accountable for any losses as a result of investments in the ICOs on this board.

I also make the same proposal earlier and I personally believe that a warning message should be there. But below is the response of Welsh merited by mprep.
Sometimes some decission should take by observing situation. In recent times ICO scam has been a concern and by considering this situation i think we should warn our investor.

You have suggested in your thread to make a post including all scam ICO there. Actually your suggestion was not bad but honestly users are not too interested to read pin posts usually. Where IMO showing a warning like gambling section could be a perfect solution.

I am alive but in hibernation.
I also make the same proposal earlier and I personally believe that a warning message should be there. But below is the response of Welsh merited by mprep.

I'm all for helping the community, but I'm not prepared to spoon feed anyone, and I'm not sure if a sticky thread is required. Anyone investing their time/money in altcoins should already know the risks associated with them. It should go without saying that a public forum such as Bitcointalk where anyone can post an announcement thread that none of them are endorsed by Bitcointalk. Except for Howeycoins of course Wink

I'm sure most serious users who care about the projects, and where their money is going will search up the project via the scam accusations thread as well as finding public information about them through a search engine. Maybe, mprep will disagree, and think we need something like this as a sticky thread. Just looked at Coolcryptovator thread, and rewarded it some merit. Maybe, something like that could be added to a sticky, but I like the fact that most stickies are about moderation, and not guides on how to invest, and to do research. Howeycoins kind of acts as a "live" way of doing it. It acts as a real coin, and then shows you the risks associated with altcoins as it deceives you by appearing to be a real coin.

Having looked at Coolcryptovators thread I wouldn't be completely against something like that being added as a sticky thread.

Let see, if your topic is able to bring any change Smiley

Hello guys,

Welcome everyone to my thread. Today I am going to make a proposal for showing a warning on Announcements (Altcoins) section. As we all know that in Investor-based games section a warning shows there for all when anyone click on any thread.. After seeing the situation of ICO scam i realize that we need a same kind of warning on Announcements(Altcoins) section.

Every single member of this forum know that bitcointalk has a great value on whole crypto world. Not only the members of bitcointalk invest on ICO but also many investor come from outside of the forum. These investor take the forum as a source of guideline for their investment. Honestly when I wasn't a member of this forum at that time I have followed bitcointalk ANN thread before my investment. Because most of the ICO projects use bitcointalk ANN thread link on their website along with social media links. In recent times ICO scam increasing rapidly and these scammers are targeting bitcointalk to promote their project easily. So I think its necessary to have an warning on ANN section too. If a warning shows there then investors can easily understand that there is always risks in ICO investment and forum doesn't moderate any likely scam.

For example when you click on  Investor-based games sections thread you will see this warning;

Quote
Warning: You are in the Gambling section. You are likely to eventually lose any money that you gamble/"invest". Additionally, moderators do not remove likely scams. You must use your own brain: caveat emptor. Do not gamble more than you can afford to lose.

How it will be if we see a warning on Announcements (Altcoins) sections thread.

Warning could be like this:

Quote
Warning: You are in the Announcements (Altcoins) section. You are likely to eventually lose any money that you "invest" on any new coin. Additionally, moderators do not remove likely scams. You must use your own brain: caveat emptor. Do not invest more than you can afford to lose. Forum is not affiliated with any Altcoin.
