Just when you thought the BTG team couldn't be more incompetent...
Seems it just got worse too... they've expanded the "recall" window... it looks like the "suspicious" file was there for 4.5 days... instead of the 1.5 days they originally quoted Shocked Undecided

You can use your Ledger Nano S to store your BTG so you don't need to use a windows client for that. Hardware wallets are specialized to store your coins safely, and the cost of the hardware wallet is relatively low compared to the risk you can prevent with it.
You can read about it here:
How to use Bitcoin Gold with Ledger  https://ledger.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005456969-How-to-use-Bitcoin-Gold-with-Ledger
Although they don't recommend to use the blockchain of BTG at the moment, so it's wise to store them for longer period or to dump it now on an exchange.

All I know is that I know nothing.
that is a dump excuse though!
it may be easy to hack their website and put some fake thing up there but it is impossible to hack github to place the fake thing there too. the only way they could have done it is either by having commit access already meaning the developer team of BTG or they lost their password which to be honest would be another excuse. a so called "developer" should know how not to lose his password! specially when we are talking about lots of money here!

Please be aware that for approximately 36 hours, a link on our Download page and the file downloads on our Github release page have been serving a suspicious file of unknown origin.

Seems someone put a "suspicious" file on their download servers/github... Anyone who downloaded the BitcoinGold Windows client in the last 2 days should take immediate action as suggested by the devs... remove the file and treat your computer as possibly compromised.

EDIT: They've since expanded the warning period to 4.5 days... instead of the original 1.5 days! Shocked
