A seed phrase type wallet represents many private keys. Each private key is still represented by only one public key.

If you use the seed for backup you can backup lots of bitcoin address/public addresses that includes on seed but if you are just backing up one public address or bitcoin address you can only have a private key which you can import to other wallet providers.

The seed has many private keys that you can export from a single seed so if you use a wallet sample electrum wallet and you import the seed to it then you send bitcoin to each public address you have in electrum that includes change addresses the total amount will be shows on electrum wallet in total amount of all of your bitcoin to all public addresses.

Look at this image below as a sample of the imported private key.

and here is the imported seed looks like.

As you can see there is a difference between private key and seed.
Seed includes all private keys and public addresses while private key only has one public key.

Wallets which can be recovered using the seed are called hierarchical deterministic. Their main advantage is that they are easy to backup. You can use them on multiple devices without having to worry that some of your coins won't be available on a specific device. Modern software and hardware wallets use this kind of wallet. Bitcoin Core instead of the seed allows user to export Master Private Key in its console.
