Pros for local : you get do trades face to face
Cons for local : you have to do trades face to face

Pros for using a service : Costs a little extra and you need to be patient if an error occurs
Cons : most people are not patient and yell if their transaction doesn't seem to work as instant as they want it to.

That said there have bee n some cases of transactions taking days when it should have only taken hours.
