Remember, when you use the platform you completely trust them and therefore members of this forum will not be able to help you if your currencies disappear, "only the support team can."
So try to use the well-known and reputable platforms so we can help you influence their reputation "they will worry a lot for fear of losing it."

what is the platform and is it error by you or by them?

I was using a platform called Changenow. While putting the memo I gave two leading and trailing spaces so my order was not detected. When I reached out to them they told it is their policy if you will put the correct memo also it will not detect if you will give space.

In blockchains like Stellar, EOS... a memo is a message embedded in a transaction. It usually in form of a text or memo ID. Exchanges usually use a few deposit wallet addresses for many accounts and the only way they can differentiate the deposits is through Memo IDs that correspond to different accounts.

So if the memo ID is not written right, there is a chance they won't be able to tell if the deposit was meant for your account. But i think you will be helped if the support understands the situation well and is lenient enough.

Luckily I haven't lost them till now. Currently, the refund process is going on. As far as they have n't given me an exact ETA but I am following up with them constantly. If I will not receive my funds in my wallet definitely I will open a thread regarding scam accusation.

I don't think he user has lost their money yet if the transaction was never processed. Opening a scam accusation thread would be to warn others to not patronize that particular website, but wouldn't help with recovery of the funds.
For now keep hitting up their customer support service, you can also include threats to report them to the appropriate channels, I've witnessed cases where it prompted the reversal of funds stuck on a shady website.

If you are not careful, yes, you can loose your money. Most exchanges usually provide warnings about permanent loss of of in case you type in  the wrong memo so am guessing they could also hide under the notion that you provided them a wrong memo otherwise keep in touch with their support and know what the way forward is.

Yes, I know a missing memo is a big mistake from the customer side so some exchanges have put one small message down your address box that if you don't put a memo you may lose your money. some exchanges have pushed the funds manually also.  But I was not concerned about the space thing in the memo. So next time I will be more careful while putting my transaction related details. Yes, I am in touch with them regarding my refund. Thanks for your concern

Thats mistake from their part. Exchange should provide stable enviroment for trading, their devs should 100% prevent such thing from happening.
Its most basic mistake they made and they should be responsible for that.
I would switch exchange if i were you. If they did fail on such basic stuff, they will be hacked very soon.

I contacted them regarding this they told there API has written like this. After so much confusion I have given my txid and refund address to refund my coins.

which excahnge are you using?

Why don't you use most reliable exchanges, like binance, which doesn't even require KYC?
There are some others which deal with fiat, with kyc, such as coinbase, bitstamp, kraken. None of those will have such problems.

So meaning even character like space can somehow affect transactions? This is a disadvantage on some exchange using memo but on my case I never got wrongfully error on my transactions even using memo type.

Can I ask what exchange is this? So we can also take extra precaution when dealing with some of our funds on this exchange. Having an error like that is unacceptable resulting to losing funds just like that. They should have a middle processor before the payment sent directly to the blockchain to inspect if there is something wrong with the user's details.

Today while creating a transaction from XLM to BTC my order was not detected and when I reached out to exchange they told you have put leading and trailing space while putting the memo. That's why it is not detected so that means if someone will give space did they lose their money? Please suggest

What exchange have you used?
I you entered extra space with your MEMO I think they can reverse your transaction,
just provide them with transaction link on stellar blockchain.

Why it should as far as I can understand? Did you lose your money? If you lost then haven't you asked them what happened with your money?

As far I know, its the exchange system itself who will ignore the leading and trailing spaces if it is an important thing and it's part of the coding. Devs are responsible, so the exchange as said by Velkro.

If you lost your money then open a thread in scam accusation board by following the proper format. Btw, can you let us know which exchange you are talking about?
