Correct. Bitcon-Qt keeps track of "change" addresses internally and does not display them to you.

Change addresses in Bitcoin-QT and in general are something that I think is going to cause a great deal of confusion for new users and loss of bitcoins for those experimenting with brain wallets and the like.

A screenshot of the Bitcoin Transaction window would help. Bitcoin doesn't delete old addresses, but might hide addresses which don't have coins in them. You shouldn't have any problem receiving coins at old addresses.

A screenshot of the Bitcoin Transaction window would help. Bitcoin doesn't delete old addresses, but might hide addresses which don't have coins in them. You shouldn't have any problem receiving coins at old addresses.

I haven't used that one, but it should be OK. It should have a list of about 100 addresses ready to go and it'll keep your old one in case you get new coins in it. Make sure you backup your wallet though.

What wallet do you use? Unless you can recover the private key to your old address the bitcoins sent there are gone. You might want to use a different wallet.

This isn't very intuitive, so bear with me.

When you send coins from an address, Bitcoin sends any "change" to a new address in the same wallet.

In your case, you sent .86BTC, but the address you sent from (called an "output") had .9531BTC in it.

You paid a .001BTC fee.

.9531-0.0921-.001=.0921BTC change.

The change was sent to 162HWpt9njiDsk5nwGixw7fDPuNy55Kh9X which should be an address in the same wallet you sent coins from. Thus, you should still have the .0921BTC in your wallet. Bitcoin does not record the "change" transaction in the ledger.

Your fee was 0.001 -- the 0.0921 is your change which is always sent to a new address. Your wallet software generated this address for you and should have its private key (you need to back that up if you haven't already).

(bitcoin always empties your address when you send bitcoins unless you tell it not to)

Hi,

I just sent 0.86 BTC to one address and offered 0.001 BTC commission for the transfer fee.
Nevertheless, I do not understand how, I have been charged much more (0.0921 BTC) for the transfer fee.

But this address is not mine, as does not appear in my wallet. That is why I'm confused.
