My recommendation would be to have a look at this thread: Bitcoin Unit Converter:🔁Convert satoshi, mBTC,Finney, bit to 170 fiat currency - bitmover is always looking for new challenges to improve the site and implementing a QR code scanner feature might be one of them.

Never mind - I read the first post and replied then went back and read the thread...  Roll Eyes

As title reads, are there any recommendations of apps for iphone that can scan a QR code of a bitcoin address and display the balance of said address?

"Blockchain BTC Address Book" can do that. The app lets you scan QR codes to easily add Bitcoin addresses to your watchlist.
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/blockchain-btc-address-book/id1361408498?platform=iphone

While I haven't tried it myself, seems to have good reviews.

I don't know but if you may get op correctly, he is saying an QR canner that could display address at same time shows the balance in that address without him haven to go through blockexplorer to view the balance within the address he is trying to send out payment to. That is way i just think op needs it.

You need to click the blue button to open the camera. If you click Get balance with zero addresses in the textarea, you won't see anything. You need to scan first (or to paste the addresses)

Blue button for scans, green button for pasted or scanned addresses
Okay, I think that was where my problem was initially coming from, because I just tried to click the blue button as suggested, scanned the QR code, and it's actually working perfectly fine, and one thing I observed was that the more QR codes I scanned, the more BTC balance I was having beneath each other as shown below.

Note: I was just only able to get 2 other BTC wallet address QR codes from Google and added with mine, making it 3 as shown below.

And secondly, I was able to test the address feature by copying over 23 Bitcoin wallet addresses from a signature campaign here on this forum to see how it works, and I must say Im impressed by how it works, as I was instantly able to get both the cumulative balance of the entire 23 Bitcoin wallet addresses and a detail balance of each individual wallet as shown below.

Conclusion: At this moment I think I can now say the tool is actually working fine as expected. Thank you

Still can`t reproduce the error. I have tested in Firefox (desktop and mobile), Edge (desktop), Brave (desktop) and Chrome (mobile and desktop). They work fine.

You need to click the blue button to open the camera. If you click Get balance with zero addresses in the textarea, you won't see anything. You need to scan first (or to paste the addresses)

Blue button for scans, green button for pasted or scanned addresses

It does work, for the first time you scan. After that you need to reload the page to scan again (for me at least).

Can you try on your phone to scan, get balance and then press scan again while that previous address is still there with balance info at the bottom?

To understand, are these your steps?

1 You click Scan and see the result.
2 You Get Balance with new addresses.
3 You click Scan and see no camera.

This is working here.

I get this error on both chrome and safari. It's only after I press "Get Balance!" That I can't scan another address without reloading the website. Not really an issue though!
I just tried this tool while using a "Brave Browser" and I must confess, I did also observe the same error Sir Hhampuz was talking about (i.e Camera not working) unlike how it was working perfectly on the previous version, hence, I think this must be a small technical issue, because I initially just applied one of the suggestion you gave above about clearing my browser cache, and I just did that on my mobile Brave Browser, and I must confess, the issue still remains the same, as the camera seems not to be connecting with the tool after clicking the "Get balance" button as shown with an arrow below. But yet, this is what pops up after clicking the "Get balance" button as shown on the right hand side below. Thanks

Hhampuz's ,

I have updated the tool. I decided to integrate it inside the balance-checker tool

https://bitcoindata.science/bitcoin-balance-check

Please take a look. I also made a small UI improvement,.

This looks really good! But it seems I'm running into an error that I did not in the previous version: When I've scanned an address and then press the qr icon again it says that it's scanning for an address and that the camera has access but I only get an info box and can't scan anything.

This seems to happen after I've hit "Get Balance!" and by refreshing (the previously scanned address is still in the box) I can once again scan.

Same here, the scanner feature is not available and I thought that the camera is not displaying so try to put a qr code on camera while the popup window of scanning is active but no result.

The image above is the actual display when clicked the QR button. Currently using Iphone on latest iOs version.

I was not able to reproduce this error.

I will suggest that you clear browser Cache (or clean website data), you might be having conflicts with old cached version. Or just reload and try again.

The point is that I am scanning addresses,  not transactions.
Oh sorry, my bad! I thought you were talking about a transaction inputs not an address input. Thank you for the clarification.
The confusion was because of Hhampuz's question.
In this case, you are right. It's going to be more complicated and a bit resource intensive as you will have to list all the transactions of the scanned address and both their current and original values.

Am sorry if I got it wrong but I think the number of inputs or their values are irrelevant here. What you need to get this done is the current value of the transaction and the value of bitcoin when the transaction got confirmed then you can do the math.
You can call this blockchain api endpoint*:
Code:
https://blockchain.info/frombtc?value=(current transaction value)¤cy=USD&time=(Unix time when the transaction got confirmed)&textual=false&nosavecurrency=true
Not sure if blockchain api has any limitation on how many requests you can make, though
*: https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/41772/get-value-at-time-of-transaction-from-blockchain-info-api

The point is that I am scanning addresses,  not transactions.

Imagine that you scan a signature campaign addresses for example. It could contain dozens of transactions...

I would have to  show the value of each transaction from/to that address.

Thank you for the great and helpful tool, bitmover. It works like a charm indeed!

This might be a bit more complex than it looks like, because the address could have several inputs from different times. Each input would need to have 2 values.

It is doable, but I would have to break each address by input. I will think about it! Maybe if you click in the addresss like "Details" , we could see a detailed information about the address.

This works like a charm! I really appreciate it and the fact that you can scan multiple and it saves the last few ones on the bottom - very helpful!

Would it be possible on your end to make it so the camera is either a bit more zoomed in when pressing "start scanning" or anything else that would make it a bit more easy to detect a qr? I tried it now and even though the QR code I'm scanning is quite small I have to basically put my camera a millimeter away from it, haha. Could just be an iphone issue, too.

Sadly I don't have any merit to give you as I've run out but I'll make sure to send over a donation!

Thank you!!!

I didn`t see any configuration in the library that I am using which would make scan process easier... Maybe you could zoom in the QR code before scanning?

Just as Sir Hhampuz said, I stand to the second person to say this new tool of yours is actually fantastic, because I recently just gave it a try, and it just worked like magic by displaying both the address of the scanned BTC QR code, exact amount of BTC and it's current value in dollar at the moment as shown below.

Thank you once again Sir Bitmover..

Thank you!

As title reads, are there any recommendations of apps for iphone that can scan a QR code of a bitcoin address and display the balance of said address? I've been trying to find some for some time but it's just one faulty app with bugs after another. Some apps claim to be able to scan QR codes but they only give you the option to send btc to it - it won't display the balance.

I could add that function to https://bitcoindata.science/bitcoin-balance-check

Would you use it in your phone browser?

Phone browser would not be an issue for me and that'd be greatly appreciated! I use chrome on my phone, if that matters.

I don't use iPhone so I have no idea OP.

That would be cool tool to have, but be careful with many QR codes standards that exist, there could be many issues with compatibility.
Making it work with all of them is an not easy task, especially when some wallet developers are trying to invent wheel all over again.

Yeah I know that, I was just hoping to get some realtime balance updates from scanning it rather than copying and going to a block explorer and doing it all "manually". I know there were some in the past, but they've all been shut down or removed.
It must be a co-incidence LOL
I was looking for the same thing a few weeks ago and then gave up because nothing I found that was doing the job :-D
I searched something similar and i found something that has this feature. It works like, after scanning the qr code you will need to save it using the plus icon to check its balance. I can't guarantee how safe it on your device though. It's an android app and supports other coins too.

While looking for any help in the Internet I found out that this need was discussed way back in 2012 right here[1] and it seems that 12 years latter there isn't a solution for iOS users. In the past there were some applications available (Baseline[2] and Scanbook[3] p.e.) but they seem to have vanished now.

Just a random idea but would creating a recipe in IFTTT[4] work? The way I see it is whenever you scanned a QR code, the action would be to modify an existing saved URL (for example - https://mempool.space/address/PASTEDURL) and then open that website. Not sure if that's doable however...
