The problem is, people are incentivised to post whether they have something useful to say or not.
No meaningful discussions can evolve, since the same questions are answered over and over again, because people just want to post 'something'.
The merit system was put in place to stop this madness to a certain degree, but it's a very harsh measure and will discourage new blood, and it obviously doesn't prevent spamming effectively.

That is why we are thankful to the admin in BTT that they BAN all the IP from all the shitposter Country (not to mention) because last few months, the massive escalation of shitpost floods in BTT, and the preacautionary measure for this is BANNING and MERIT which is actually active aright now.

I hope that one day, the BTT will restore informational, lees spammy posts like year 2015 before.

I agree that no system is a) perfect and b) in full use from day one. Perhaps a separate section for shitposting? Smiley
Like off topic and newbie section wasnt enough for them ? Even if we have that section im not sure we can remove all that shitposter. Cause they post to get paid, you know what i mean right ? Using some signature at their profile and make some post at discussion section.

Yep, there was a furor over this, where actmyname and I were added to DT and srarted tagging these morons with negative trust.  Then the morons flooded meta and our inboxes with cries that we were starving them out.  Next, the merit system was introduced in late January, which should help eventually.

It's sad that some DT1 members support this shitposting (they removed me from DT2) in the name of...some reason.   The forum is still mostly those boilerplate posts because noob shitposters are still getting paid to produce them.  It's sad but hopefully the merit system will kill at least some of them off.  Theymos and others love it because it brings traffic and a renewable supply of suckers, and thus nothing is ever going to really change.
Those people whom you tagged surely deserves redtrusts, most of them pollutes the entire bitcointalk forums, when to moon?to the mooon seems to be their signature lines, but it seems the merit system could be the answer of the problem if these people wont have any chance to rank up they will eventually leave this place,i am not native speaker but i know how you feel about these cancers in the forum.

We need people like you to fight the shitposters.!

That won't work, you know that. It will not be counted for bounties, people will not follow that rule, the amount of work for mods would skyrocket.
No. I don't see a better solution than everybody handling it for himself (hint: ignore user Smiley )

I know, just daydreaming with pink glasses Cheesy Ignoring will work on mental level, but at least I cannot ignore them with forum software. There are hundreds of shitposters, it would fill my day just clicking them to oblivion. I should be trading or investigating new coins, not clickety click ignoring users Smiley

The merit system will not work overnight. The merit system will be abused. But at the end the amount of nonsense will start to drop, or at least stay under certain levels.
And with that the amount of auto-translated posts should also decrease, since they have the smallest chance to get merit.

We need patience. Until then there's a simple solution: ignore user.

Too many see this forum as a source of income. Too many just came for this. Some are advertising ICOs, some are paid to sell news to affect the market (sometimes FUD, sometimes "when we reach 1,000,000?"). Some are here for various bounties or signature campaigns. The result is a lot of nonsense that makes the useful info get buried somewhere.

Although I am a newbie here (in terms of join date <-> current date), I have been wondering the same. Many topics are filled with "mooning" or "bright future" but there is no analysis or insight more or less any topic. There are veterans of course discussing and argumenting but most topics are cluttered with messages with no point. Very unfortunate for a newcomer who would like to learn. I thought the merit system would improve this as you cannot progress to next user level without others endorsement. Until now I haven't seen many using the merit system although there has been also very intelligent posts as well.

Is it just me or has the quality of discussion and even grammatical coherence of posts gone down almost as logarithmyically as bitcoin went up last year?  I've been off the board for a little while and coming back it feels like it's completely different, I gleaned a MASSIVE amount of knowledge hear in the past years and now all I see is google translates of boiler plate statements.

Granted those translations have always been here, just seems like that's ALL there is these days.
