I dont expect anything serious with quantum computers to come around in our lifetime and im certainly not worried about AI taking over anytime soon. From the looks of it quantum computing is in its infancy and to progress further could cost billions and take a long time, thats if its even possible to make anything thats actually useful.

Yea but they already get billions of funding, they do want this technology so big companies will pay a lot to research this, especially for smart phone and semiconductor technology.

Stop getting yourself worked up over nothing, God is in charge of the affairs of men.

This was supposed to be a serious discussion.  Leave it to a cult to ruin it.   Undecided

Once we invented Quantum computers, it is only a matter of time to technological singularity and human extinction.

100% Agree, these greedy scientists are researching their demise, why are they doing this? Fame? Glory? But at the expense of destroying everyone?

Imagine a Skynet type AI with quantum computers, it will definitely be like in Terminator movies or worse!

Vod is right.  There are quantum computers built but they are still primitive to what we can expect.  I think the article you pointed out is referring to only D-wave and their claims.

Yea but they only did that in small scale. They can do perfect research in small scale, but can it scale to large ones?

In small scale those experiments are harmless, but if they can scale it, then we are all fucked, as humanity.

So far to my knowledge and understanding of physics, it's impossible to scale the quantum system, because it requires 0 energy or close to 0 energy vacuum to maintain the quantum state, as soon as you introduce energy, the qstate collapses. However you cannot perform operations without energy and manipulating the particles, so it's a paradox in my opinion.

What do you think?

No thats a sham, it was already debunked:

Here is a timeline from Wiki:

And these are only what have been published.  Who knows what NSA or other government agencies are working on?

Hmm, but wouldn't it be possible though for humanity to combat that technology, if they were able to build it?

Also I'm wondering what this would mean for bitcoin... Would bitcoin die off? Will it be possible to switch to another algorithm that is able to function even with quantum computers? Is there already an model/algorithm that is capable of doing that?

Anybody know???

Scientists are greedy idiot bastards, they wont stop until they really create something truly evil that will wipe humanity off.

The nukes are not enough for them, what next? Assimilator nanovirus? Strangelet Particles? Earth turning into black hole? It's just maddness.

But by then bitcoin will probably be hacked, there is just no way you can defend against this quantum shit. The computers will be made from nanobots, how can you hold bitcoins safely on such computer?

So is there any evidence that quantum computers will ever exist, or if they are feasable to build?

Lemme hear your opinion!

We have already built quantum computers.

http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/219160-googles-quantum-computer-is-100-million-times-faster-than-a-conventional-system

Right now we can only access quantum buts in double digits.  As that technology matures, your fears may very well come true.

Personally, I feel what we need to fear is the tiny machine with just enough AI to replicate itself.  That is only a few years away.

No thats a sham, it was already debunked:

But I mean is if physically possible to combine many qbits together to break all encryptions and create a totally 0 privacy society where the quantum computer can even calculate and predict your behaviour from your genes. That would be horrifying.

Yes an AI replication system is also worrysome, it would create a virus that would start growing and destroying and assimilating everything in it's path, like a Borg cubes from Startrek.

Its very horrible where the technology is headed.

It looks like humans will go extinct in the 100 - 200 years. Humans are very fragile we have no match to immortal machines with million times more intelligent than us.

Do you think Quantum Computing is physically possible, and will humans ever build one? I hope not.

Because if they do then probably all humanity will be destroyed, it will change our lives so fast, that we will all become slaves of the machines and AI robots with this power will definitely wipe out humanity. It will just be like the Terminator franchise, but this time for real.
