Do you know how the gift card got paid using cash or credit card or even bank transfer let's say he paid cash how you can not get in trouble the only possible way i have in mind is that he will claim someone stolen his giftcard or chargeback from credit card/bank.
Im planning to buy stuffs from amazon using a gift card I got from a friend. Im just worried if the gift card is not legit so I want to know if the gift card was obtained illegaly and I used it to buy a thing on amazon, will I get on trouble?
Im confused right now, whether I use that gift card or I'll just abandon it. Any advices?

Ask for the receipt... For maximum security just throw it in the trash and forget about it.

That's the point, you don't know if it was good money or stolen money. It's kind of weird you're even asking this question - you'd know a "real" friend in real life and should know they wouldn't send you stolen giftcards. Yes, if it was created using a fraudulent credit card they will find out when it's reported and guess where they end up? At your door.

The first question I would have to ask is why you would think it was obtained illegally? If you know knowledge that it was obtained illegally or even think it could have been, I would not take the chance and take it back to my friend for my money back. Friends do not put other friends in that situation.
