Will a 6990 run in a 1x slot? And all I do is dremmel the back end of it and fit the card in?

Wouldnt the card be too heavy in the back and make it fall back?

Checking the PCI-E scheme you should be fine. I don't know why some ppl connect the logical ground directly to the psu (i'm not talking about the pin 1 side A). A very small current is supposed to pass there.

Just get a cable on eaby for few bucks and you wont even need to ruin your motherboard warranty :-)

The One and Only
I've got two motherboards with 4 6950's each, The PCI-e lanes are at 8x, 4x, and then of course the 1x slots are both at 1x. If you want to add another card or two on the same motherboard, pick up some extender cables from Cablesaurus!

I've got a 6850 crammed into a PCI-e 1x slot which I modified with a Dremel. I can has the same exact hash rate that it does in a full 16x slot.

Mining requires very little PCIE bandwidth. This is why you see many rigs using the 1x PCIE riser cables.

Short of it: You will be fine and shouldn't see an impact in speed.

Okay so heres my problem. I don't know if this will affect mining, but I have 3 x 6990's going into a rig.  This rig will be using a motherboard with 3 x PCI-E x16 slots, but here is my question.

On the motherboards page, it read this: 3 (PCIE2/PCIE3: single at x16 or dual at x8/x8 mode; PCIE4: x4 mode)

If one of my slots is only at PCI-E 4x mode.. will it still be able to mine at its max capacity? Or will this present a problem.
