In what way Activity and Posts count differ exactly?

Can you increase activity without making posts or are threads worth more than posts? Does the length of the posts matter?

Posting is an activity and of course it must be directly proportional. Long or short posts are not the main ones, but the contents of the posts are the most useful.

If you are a source of merit what makes you unable to feed your alt-accounts?
Firstly there happens to be no reason to do that, as far as I know I doubt if we have merit sources currently on bounty campaigns,so there is no reason to rush/feed/build up/rank up your alt accounts, its better it follows the due course

Another reason is that it's less honorable to do so, ranking up the normal way emits a sort of pride to the accomplisher,so a dishonest rank up is no rank up..

Finally it's an abuse of the system that is punishable by a red tag

My conscience Tongue

Merit transactions are public, abuse is heavily frowned upon.
Plus merits sources would have to be dumb to do it, it is hard to be one of the merit sources and it is handpicked by theymos himself so I doubt an abuser will slip through the cracks out of the 119 of them. The list of merits being given away is always recorded and will stay in your account for 120 days, and even if that 120 days is gone the data can still be pull out and your entire merit history is still retrievable and LoyceV made it easier for us to do so. If you are planning to abuse it now, chances are you will receive a red tag soon for merit abuse.

Nothing but theymos will not make source anyone, IMO. Also, merits sources can be kicked out if s/he abuses.

Absolutely not rigged for people with multi I guess  Grin they would never send merit to each other
It's the other way around: they'd never get 100 Merit on all their spamming alt-accounts.

Wow I need "100" merits just to be a full member

The merit system was designed to encourage quality interactions and contributions on the forum.
It doesn't count for much, except you plan on getting involved in bounties.

I wouldn't refer to full member rank as 'just', it accords you recognition in the forum as gettin 100 merits is not an easy feat.
As for merit abuse, that was addressed by theymos, except they are merit sources they do not get dropped smerits to give out regularly and have to earn merits to share them.

Just to add to what has already been stated, the 14 day window in which you can get 14 activity counts on forum time and not when you joined.
So it's possible for one to get the first 14 activity much earlier then 2 weeks, if your post come late in the window. But subsequent activities is compliant with the 2 weeks duration.

You can find the answers just by searching the forum in under five minutes, but to answer very briefly (without going into exceptions and detailed count of posts):

-   Activity is derived from the number of posts, capped at 14 max. in a two week period (see FAQ: Everything you need to know about forum 'activity, account ranks and merit) for details.
-   Activity is based on your posts over 2 week periods. No posts, then no activity increase.
-   A post that is a thread opener is just that, a post, and therefore counts towards activity just as any other post.
-   Length of the posts does not alter any counter at all, nor matter.

Of course crappy post may get deleted, and consequently the activity count will decrease.
