Was looking at those. The price sucks but for some it's much cheaper than buying a new mobo/proc/ram (in my case I could really use 1 for my rig).

So a question I have is how many of these adapters can you use safely together? Could I technically have 5 PCI slots and use them to power the video card slots? Assuming that I am using the 19cm extension ribbon with the molex power..
Works perfectly for me using a powered molex AFTER the adapter. Have not tried more than one in a system though. Have 6 cards on an Asrock 970 Extreme4.
I don't have any good experience using these adapters, I've tried one of these out of curiousity on two rigs (Intel P45 and some strange ULi chipset), either the cards won't POST at all/doesn't get recognized by lspci, boot up/run X11 but get instantly flagged as DEAD by cgminer or sometimes get stuck/SICK and cgminer needs to restart the GPUs.
No one has ever tried, because it doesnt make a lot of sense. It might work, it might fail miserably.
One concern is that adding 2 identical PCI cards of anything often doesnt work. I once made a crazy "budget SSD" based on a RAID array with >30 USB drives (company gifts) and since I didnt have enough hubs or bandwidth, I tried putting in 3 identical PCI to USB controllers I had laying around, and it just wouldnt work. Only 1 PCI card would work at a time, no matter what I tried, the other 2 werent seen.
This was both on windows and linux.
OT, but here is part of the setup:
