Forget all the old cards people are recommending if you are truly aiming for the highest hash rates possible

For ZEN/ZEC/ZCL/HUSH/equihash and the broadest algorithm support you will want 8 x 1080 ti or Titan's
For ETH/neoscrypt/cryptonight you should get 8 x vega64

R9 290/290x if you want to mine ETH - be sure to install a BIOS from TheStilt on them to greatly reduce their heat generation AND speed them up quite a bit compared to the stock BIOS.

Possibly the R9 390/390x (but those tend to cost a good bit more when you can find them).

There was no HD-series version of the R9 290/290x GPU, and the HD 7970/R9 280X were quite a bit lower performance in all ways EXCEPT 64-bit floating point (which is NOT used in cryptocoin mining except in a round-about way via BOINC/Gridcoin).

This is not to say that the HD 7990 (dual 7970) or HD 7970 or HD 7950 are BAD choices, if you can get them cheap enough.

Gone phishing...
If you could find one at a remotely reasonable price, the R9 295x2 would give you excellent use of the number of physical slots you have.

On the other hand, given the price they're currently going for, purchasing additional mobos/cpus/etc. to run more rigs of less powerful cards would probably give you a better overall value.

Old 7950/7970 which are dirt cheap.

agreed, or 7990 if you can find it cheap, OR R9 280X (which is a 7970). Many good alternatives out there that still works fine for cryptonote and equihash algos Smiley

What is the best GPU to install into an 8 GPU rig if electricity is not an issue - free

so essentially, power/cost effectiveness is not an issue

all responses will be highly appreciated

thanks
