I'm still quite new and this answer doesn't directly come from Bitcointalk's community so I may be wrong with my answer, but even then it's still good to find a grasp of what commonly happens whenever a forums section pops up.

Going generally off other experiences on forums and game communities it's always the Languages sections and niche sections only a certain group of users on the website would be interested in that are often the most lacking, in terms of activity and community. I know that Bitcointalk has these Language sections but I never stepped foot in these communities so this answer may be very easily wrong, especially seeing how huge Bitcointalk's community is.

Fun Fact: It's always the 'General' 'Marketplace' or 'Off-Topic' subforums in communities that seem to ALWAYS thrive. People always want to talk about the [topic/game/website], people want to make money through the use of marketplace and people always love to talk about things unrelated to the [topic/game/website], so they use off topic. And so far I'm quite right about the marketplace section here. Bitcointalk does have tons of sections here and I've barely explored them all so sadly I can't give out an accurate answer even though I want to. Hope this has made you learn something though

If we're talking about the issues as a whole I honestly don't like how they would rather ban trolls but not scammers. Like what? Why not just ban both.. Scamming is farr infinitely worse than just some harmless trolls trying to get a reaction out of people.

How about creating a brand new account level so every newly registered account will be redirected to a sub-board name: New Member introduction where there is a pin thread about forum rules and he will have to follow the right format in introducing himself and part of that format is asking if he read the forum rules once he posted his first post which is introducing himself the whole section will be opened up for him.
So new members are all aware of the forum rules.

Just my two cents of opinion, that you can ignore. Smiley

Disclaimer: This not an argument thread but all opinions   counts

I noticed some people are no longer active, some are active once in while though they hold positions in the forum which they are supposed to be puting things in order.
I'm concerned about the wellness of the forum, so I see new generation of people ranking up but are more concerned on what they benefit from the forum rather than what they claim to be interested in helping in the forum. Although in some point of view they might be helping but just in a minor way that may seem to be common.

Since there are few of us that are willing to render help we (Me in particular) want to know if there are areas which you believe is lacking attention that people like the new hard working members can actually take care of because this forum have lasted for a decade and more I believe some areas might be slacking gradually but seems to be fine.

This thread may not be necessary to some people but one unnecessary question can trigger a good rethink and lot of opinion on how the forum can take a new shape.

what do you all think about finding areas that are not really doing good and act on it. also give opinion on how you think new members can rather help in the forum.

I think we should have board specifically dedicated to discussing upgrading of the mindset toward investment rather than get rich qucik schemes.

People often adventure into the digital space thinking its gold even without understanding that gold has to be mined. If we can have a board dedicated to restructuring mindset as to how the investment space works, it'll go a long way.

This thread was actually created for spackling the brains of people who would take their time to read through the content of the thread.
Let's say I like to be ration in thinking, most times people don't ask the real questions they just follow what the see without asking why do we follow such rules.
Most people have clearly pour out their minds to the real question and have really made some good points but some are just not really interested in the actual content.

~Edited out~
Your expression shows you have really noticed some kind of abnormality which most people sees normal. The freedom of speech seems to be limited to some point and maybe that's where you don't really comfortable with hence have spoken up but people don't really seems to understand your point but I perfectly do which I also appreciate for speaking out rather remain quite.

~Edited out~
You have a very good point here, I have really encounter such things but it seems to be normal but I totally disagree with such act of multiple accounts, the earlier they realize it the better for them.

To the OP, I think we are lacking in moderation somewhat. We have loads of new topics popping up in the gambling section that are just useless. They're obviously started to have more threads for people to hit their quotas, but they're just terrible topics. People also post them in the wrong sections and I get tired of reporting them.

This one of the reasons for this thread and i won't lock this thread for now for people who have such complains to be able to express themselves here. Such abnormalizsm exist in the gambling section but people do not complain but here you have made it clear and i believe if any mod comes across this they will look in to such issues.

I actually think that Theymos needs to appoint more staff members.

The current crop are doing a good job but many of them are getting overloaded, we can start with the moderator applications that have been placed here regarding local boards.
Your opinion is what consideration I also think about that alot maybe they are fewer and the job is now becoming hectic for them.

What I observed is that most people are creating alt account, and the forum is flooding everyday with new account with low quality post with high merit scores. And some people with high quality post don't get merit for that. Sometimes you will see some person who has 2000 activities with low merit scores like 40 and some people are just bearly 2 months old with not less than 60 activities with 150 merit and this things makes some people loose interest, without knowing that those account are alt account which the owner is pumping merit on it. and intermediating others as if they are not trying there best to make quality Post.

Some country don't have a good merit source and they hardly grow in rank. While some are not fluent in English and they are traped in local board parhaps they are making quality post, but no one is recognising them. So this things can make people loose interest in what dey do.

Perhaps they are unfortunate for now but in less then no time they will be recognized and push to where are supposed to be.
I also appreciate your sincerity

They contributed things and they can leave the forum, stop their contributions.

It is not right if you ask a member who had contributions in the past, staying in the forum forever.

The end of an era for me: Leaving Signature Campaign. When eternalgloom wrote this, he left Bitsler signature campaign which used to be one of best campaigns in Bitcointalk.

what do you all think about finding areas that are not really doing good and act on it. also give opinion on how you think new members can rather help in the forum.

I would say that most of the areas of the forum I mean boards of the forum are doing good and the members are contributing good stuff to make those boards active even till this day. A new member can easily rank up on this forum if he/she is willing to contribute good stuff to the forum and help the forum and its members in one way or other.

I would say that if you want to rank up then you will have to contribute good stuff to the forum and you will see yourself that you account will grow in rank over time. The more good stuff you can contribute the easier it will be for you to get attention from the other users who always help those users which put a lot of effort to help the forum by contributing good stuff to the forum.

The old members on those high ranks have put a lot of effort in contributing good stuff on this forum. Some of them might get busy sometimes and that's why they might not get enough time to spend on this forum but you can't ignore their contribution they have given to the forum. I believe that it's always better to start contributing to the forum in one way or other and you'll see yourself that how things get change for you overtime.

I noticed some people are no longer active, some are active once in while though they hold positions in the forum which they are supposed to be puting things in order.

If you observe closely, we are not having a single merit source, moderator, staff, or even admin, they exist more than one and they help with the responsibility attached to them while they also have a cover up in case of the other that is not active, this is not about making an improvement to the forum, but instead a suggestion that could be discussed and everyone drops their opinion about how they feels with each aspect, you know that you can't blame someone for being inactive on the forum because they can have many reasons to such experience including personal health challenges, but since there's also others to cover up for each other, there's no much to worry about.

OP, thank you for the concern and offer to help, but things don't work like that here. You have to start from the beginning and continue to contribute your quota bit by bit, it's after this that people will start discovering you even without you making announcements like this. It's as easy as that. To me, it's even fair because we should not judge people by what they say, we should rather judge them by what they do. So you can start proving yourself to the forum users and management right away.

There are also so many people active in the forum, I mean those who are not qualified and that are well-qualified for what you described and it has been fun and progressive for the forum. And about the activities of the people here, there's no compulsion to which time anybody should use on the forum, just do your bit as you like and that's it. The most active people here are those who are in campaigns, except a few, and it's practical that some will be very active and others will be less active just like in any other fora.

There are too many old high-ranking users with enormous powers on the forum who do not fulfill their duties and do not give a growth to newbies
How so? By 'growth', do you mean giving out merits or what? While what you have written here may be something you must have observed, it's not cool to generalize because you may feel they aren't working or discharging their duties but they actually are. They just don't go about rubbing it in others faces.
You sound so bitter as if they took an oath to you, swearing their unflinching devotion and maybe they reneged on it. The forum's a wide public space and as such you don't expect everyone to be tailored the same way. Just do your own part and if you feel you aren't learning nothing from them, how about you make your own research and come back to school them. That way we all can learn from you and you've contributed to the forum positively instead of nagging unnecessarily.

What power do they have? DT? You realize this thinking is a you problem, not a forum problem right? These people actually have no power in reality. You just have fear. If someone is threatening you, you can post the threat in reputation and maybe they lose whatever power you they have.

Can confirm, we really don't have any real powers and in fact I barely, if ever, touch my trust list these days  Smiley

Beginners need to think about the fact that no one should treat them like little children. The rule that always applies both online and offline, “No one owes anyone anything!” should be accepted without snot and whining.

what do you all think about finding areas that are not really doing good and act on it. also give opinion on how you think new members can rather help in the forum.

If you want to be useful and not just receive something useful from the forum, start reading posts from those who are trying to teach and gain more experience. But creating topics that are full of errors, as well as topics on any question for which there are thousands of answers on the forum, also creates unnecessary spam since people begin to repeat the same thing as parrots day after day.
Also note that reports are made for AI posts, plagiarism, unnecessary advertising, and anything that spoils the forum. By reporting bad posts, you make the forum cleaner.

Well, for starters they should stop creating alt accounts by the dozen. Instead, they should focus on writing quality posts from their main account. Focus on actually learning something so they can actually contribute something of substance. And maybe even improve their financial situation in ways outside of sig campaign earnings. But they won't do it, because they can get away with writing shitposts from 2-4 different accounts and get paid for them. What they don't realize is that the earning potential from one high rank account is worth more than 4-20 low rank accounts, but they don't care; they came here for the easy money, not to work hard or smart.

What "duties" are you talking about per se? Last I recall none of us are getting paid for "forum duties" outside of staff. Perhaps we aren't as inclined to "give a growth" to newbies because most of them are not actually newbies and we know that. Have you ever considered that?

Check this thread The future of Bitcointalk: Low Ranking Top Merit earners in the past 30 days

if there are areas which you believe is lacking attention that people like the new hard working members can actually take care of
Mining (Altcoins), Service Discussion (Altcoins), and any local boards that has a low merit.

Actually that's not really a problem since they can move to other place that has a high merit share or report the unmerited high quality posts.

It's up to each user whether they want to post or not, some people tend to become silent reader and there's nothing wrong. It's only wrong if they become a scammer or plagiarizer.

Everyone can join the forum and are free to leave it. They can contribute or simply join to read, freedom of choices for what they do. Nobody is required to mandatory do anything in the forum.

The forum got enough donations to run for years and theymos told that no need for new donations.

Wealth of the forum? Sorry but I don't get the idea because the forum only needs to be live and operate for us to discuss about Bitcoin first and altcoins as not main concerns of forum.

There is no problem i have find on this forum, if there is any, the admin and moderators will handle it. Some people may not be active on the forum because of some personal problems and they don't want to come here to discuss their personal life. I created my account here a long time ago but I forgot my details, later I got admission to study and I have been absent on the forum for a very long time until I recovered my account information and started to come here again. Members that are not active have different reason and it's not the duty of any to start asking them why.

Talking about forum doesn't care about privacy and putting allegations on the old high rank members in different threads not gonna help you in any way and can you explain what enormous powers you see with them and how they can help newbies who just came on forum with different intentions? There are lot of threads where newbies can submit their post for merit evaluation and can grow on forum but only if you are interested and dedicated to work for it.

Testicular fortitude from leadership. There have been so many broken promises and empty threats made from the top, but it always boils down to things being allowed under the guise of freedom of speech. Now with the mixers situation it is clear that the motivation isn’t freedom of speech, the motivation is the least amount of effort and management possible. Mixers present an issue because law enforcement wants to make inquiries about them, so it’s easier to ban them. The motivation has clearly changed to eliminating responsibility, not enabling freedom and it’s a trend that has been building for several years.

That's not true if high rankings members do not give newbies a space to grow then we will not see many members ranking up, you just need to go to the beginners and help section to see that high-ranking members are guiding newbies and giving them advice, you just have to prove that you deserve the trust and support that members are giving newbies, because we have so many newbies coming here as spammers.

If you think that you deserve our support then contribute and don't spam, these go out to all newbies.
