OK, where's the debugging info?

Right! "Built with avalon mining support." on the screen.
with -D --verbose, every displayed line should be debugging info, but I'm not sure why it didn't detect your device...

Edit: please run as root user, with su or sudo

Yes,  latest openwrt image has been upgraded.
Did you mean I need to connect Avalon to PC via the WR703N board not from the controller board?

I think it does not matter if you will use PC or WR703N.
What about debug cgminer output as suggested can you post this

@loshia
ls -la /dev/ttyU* showing /dev/ttyUSB0,
P5 has been removed,
USB cables OK,
plug USB cable from Avalon controller board to windows found RT232R USB UART.

Fuck ...Did you upgrade to latest openwrt image?

Please check if your cigminer starts with -S/dev/ttyUSB0

There are two things left - Power cabels from PDu to each Avalon to be faulty, or interface cables to be faulty...

The easiest is to upgrade image first...then manually start cgminer with appropriate ttyUSB

And finaly check all boards one by one.
1. Leave only one AVALON ASIC board powered and start cgminer with
http://en.qi-hardware.com/wiki/Avalon

115200:8:10:45:282.
Check both three of them one buy one. There might be faulty board (or cables/power) doing this you will know which one has problems

Yes, the USB hub has been changed by a workable one. And been connected to PC, but when running ./cgminer it come out: "All devices disabled, canot mine!"  Cry

Check Usb Cables
inspect dmesg Wr703 and see all masages about USB and FTTDI
ls -la /dev/ttyU* should tell you if you can see the usb

Remove jumper p5 and just plug USB cable from avalon to any windows just to save time you should see found new USB device bla bla if you see it it will work in Linux if not something is wrong

Again change all usb cables first

ng is here.

the 703N is a modded ver, we moved a 0R resistor from one place to another to let the 703N could get power form its USB-A port. (sorry, i don't have a 703n on hand right now)

why there is a ugly USB HUB there? because some compatibility problems come out if you connect the 703N to the controller board directly. the FT232 chip sucks. add a HUB can 99.999% solve this problem.

about P5 jumper: close this jumper will supply 5V to the USB-B port. in this system, the controller board power the HUB and the HUB power the 703N.

but if you connect the controller itself to a PC, you must remove the jumper. because PC will send 5V to the USB port too.
10X A million  Wink
So basically you have powered usb hub right?
Is there enough power to usb hub so that we can use other USb devices (3G for instance)?
ng: I have noticed on one of my borads that when PSu was to close to it it was disconnecting and reconnecting like crasy so FTDI seems to be very sensitive to such things otherwise 0 problems with FTDI usb + wr842Nd USB with or without hub

Probably avalon fttdi is too close to psu and that is why you need to use the hub?

great question on getting 3g added.  I would like to know too.

You will need a custom image for that or at least usbmodeswitch package as add on and some kernel modules also. Making it work is a pain in the ass at least for me. But i have it working. It is very important to distinguish between your ttyUSb - AVALON and ttyusb modem some symlink will help udev/hotplug rules

oooh and changing cgminer start up script also so i it will not mine over usb modem port  Cheesy

or just insert another USB HUB for a try.

the unmodded 703n power input is micro usb (Not 12V), have to remove the two screws in order to get it. yeah, the first method worth trying...

I am wondering why usb hub is there just to route usb wires nicely? and why ngzhnag stated it will not work without a hub when juper is there P5 Huh Misery Shocked
ngzhnag? tell us about P5 please Smiley

PS: On a second thought P5 just injects +5v in usb which explains that it has to be romoved when PC is used. But it should be no different when hub is skipped and P5 is in place and usb cable is connected directly in wr703. I just can not get it  Lips sealed

Same problem after update to latest firmware and added with a workable USB hub. Cgminer Status read "Sick" after running less than few second.

Fan1 read "0"
Temp2 read "-1"

Strange?
fan1 is alway 0 (no connect, add a 4pin PWM fan to trigger), fan2 / fan3 should >= 2000 (yeah, a little noisy).
temp2 is always -1 (no connect, unknown sensor type if want a replacement), temp1 is income air temp (or machine temp?), temp3 is module temp (should be 40+ after working for a while)

it would be strange if fan2 & fan3 are 0, MHS 5s from devs is 0.0, it may require hard power off for several sec & wait the back light to be off, then power on again.
Bitbird,
as nghzang clearly stated it will not work when you skip the usb hub doing your way
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.1600301

There are two options left
1. Remove jumper, use linux i386 pc compile https://github.com/BitSyncom/cgminer avalon branch and go
2. Do not do it unless nghzang or someone else confirms. Ethernet board wr703N has modded power supply via usb. I guess it is still able to be powered via 12V from PSU. If answer is yes, again find a way route wires 12V from psu to Ethernet board, so it is not powered via usb. Remove jumper and plug usb cable from controler directly to Wr703 Ethernet board. Basically same thing but instead of PC you will use Wr703. My first try will be to use PC then Wr703 (to exclude possible problem with WR703 USb port)

BIG FAT NOTE DO NOT DO ALL DESCRIBED IN STEP 2 UNLESS CONFIRMED OR DO IT ON YOUR OWN RISK, BECAUSE WR703 IS MODDED AND DETAILS ARE UNCLEAR FOR THE MOMENT

cypherdoc: no, this does not change anything. In fact 240V halves the amperage, so using even thinner gauge cables is possible.

I would add, to use the thickest gauge 3-prong you have if a choice is given.  I have seen some really thin ones and I would rather not read about a fire due to a broken sheath.   I have some server grade ones waiting for my units.

This should never be a problem. You can use any of the vast majority (99%+) of cables with a C13 connector on the market, shipped with computer equipment, as they are at least 18AWG, which is rated 8A (derated). This is 960W at 120V which is sufficient for the Avalon which consumes only 620W (825W with 4 modules).

i plan on installing a 30A 240V dedicated outlet to run 3 Avalons, 4 modules each.  does that change anything you've recommended?

so the end of the power cord that plugs into the wall is a standard 3 prong as in this pic?:
Yes, or any other cord, for example I have C13 to C14 cables that plug directly from our equipment in the back of the UPS

In the shipment I got, there was a matching power cable for my area (Europe) so I guess they must have done the same for US shipments (included a power cable with a NEMA 5–15 USA 3 pin plug).

Originally Jeff got a Chinese power cord:

Should be no problem, I'm sure we all have plenty of matching power cables laying around. I have boxes of weird cables that arrived here with various shipments and I also have enough equipment to cannibalise cables from.

Run into any hardware store and you can pick one up for $USD 2.5

USB hub has a red light.

WR703N has a blue light.

WR703N is powered by USB hub via a USB cable.

If WR703N is connected well with USB hub, you could see that blue light.

you may pick the 703n out of the box & use micro usb to power the 703n. alternately you can use a longer USB A-to-B type cable to get rid of the usb hub.

Are USb cables OK?

check if J5 is in please also
From FAQ

Connect to PC

Notice if you want to plug the USB to a computer instead of 703N (Ethernet board), you must remove the Jumper on the controller board. the jumper's label is P5, next to the USB port.
So the jumper must be there not removed
As an alternative you can remove Jumper P5 and plug the usb cable which connected the usb hub in your PC. You should see (windows) new hardware found USb bla bla
doing this you will know that the problem is inside the white USB switch or Ethernet board itself  But you have to remove the jumper when doing PC test

Cable probably? It may be damaged one. Other stuff as long as Wr703 is powered via usb there were reports of not connected (loose) cable because of transportation. Remove the cover of the unit and make sure all cables are in place especially USB
Is it OK? crossover or straight. Other way to go is to use network switch switch or LAN of the soho router
