imho

PROs for Radeon cards:
- faster ROI
- cheaper rig costs
- 'wider' support of the cards on this forum

CONs for Radeon cards:
- might be hard to sell after mass dumping but still easier to sell due to lower price tag

PROs for Nvidia cards:
- cooler running temps

CONs for Nvidia cards:
- might be hard to sell due to higher price tag / I think most people who can+want 1070 will prefer to buy it with garantee and brand new /

It is just my 2 cents.

With the GTX 1070 you could get 30 MH/s on ether with no bios modding and a lower power draw if you are in an area with higher electric cost, but the ROI is likely much longer with the 1070 on ETH at least. It's faster for ZEC which is the current best profit but if that flops you'll be right back to ETH

If you plan to use the cards for other things now or in the future (esp gaming) , and if you also want to consider resale value - I would get 1070's.

1070s are really good at ZEC mining, I haven't tried mine at ETH.

Also note, that the XFX has the highest quality of Mosfets and PCB along with Asus Strix, and Sapphire Nitro, His Roaring OC. As per the breakdown in youtube. The guy checked all the components with the relevant datasheets to summize that conclusion.

I have 14 of those cards  , with 2x7 setup .
I received them with 3 different version number ( 0 , 1 , 2 ) and 3 different bioses.

Modded all bioses , card hashnig between 29.8-30.1 MH/s stable
with modded bioses , each card consume around 120-130 watts on 240 volts , 7 cards setup with mobo/cpu/sdd/8gb mem , the whole system is pulling around 900 - 970 watts on 240 volts.

Without modded bios the cards was hashnig stable with 24MH/s and consumed around 150-160 watts , the whole system is pulled around 1100 watts..Im using evga 1600 watts T2 psu ...

Dam I'm going to bookmark the link to the thread with your build in it as it looks helpful as all hell. Would you be kind enough to tell me when you bought the cards? At least at what price so I know if I'm getting a good deal on at least some of the cards.

What's the cost for electric where you live?

Any reviews on how this card is in your opinion with and without the modded BIOS? Really was thinking of buying a couple of them and setting them up on Nicehash to just get bitcoin for my rig. But, it'd be nice to hear what someone else says before going ahead and pulling the trigger on it.

The 2 I have are running on NH and the work fine. I do not use a modded bios on them as they are in a rig I occasionally use for other purposes.

My only complaint is the fan noise/rattle issue due to what I perceive to be the removable fan design, the plastic tabs rattle when you ramp the fans up to keep the cards cool while mining.

If you don't care about noise, I say go for it but be prepared that in like 2 months these cards could could cost anywhere from 30-50 less than they do right now.

May go ahead and pull the trigger on buying them but I may also do it with a credit card with price protection so if the price does fall in 180 days I would get the money for it back.

How do you do with the mining on those two cards? Like, I've seen some benchmarks saying around $1.40 per day with those two in at once.

What would be a better card to go ahead and buy as I see that there is a sale for the Rx 480 on newegg at the moment so I wanted to go ahead and get my altcoin rig started up.

- This is the one I'm referring to in the post, thanks a ton!

It depends on the coin and whether or not you're willing to BIOS mod the RX480.

General Altcoins my pick would be RX480 but you would be better off to wait 30-60 days as the RX500 series is about to release by march/april and the RX480 may price drop at that time.

Also, I own 2 of those same XFX cards and those fans are noisy and rattle more than other designs from my experience.
