I have 4 GTX 1060s i can use to mine but im stuck at what to buy to power them.

For power supplys that have only 2 VGA/PCIE cables with 2 connections at each end.. can i use one cable for 2 cards and one for the other 2? Or do i need to use 4 separate cables (one for each card)?

Which risers are the best? Are the SATA risers safe? I read that they might not be but see lots of people using them.

I am thinking about buying this PSU https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438085&ignorebbr=1&_ga=2.45456612.1348366789.1509863323-1994519759.1506566279&_gac=1.158548552.1509141164.CjwKCAjwssvPBRBBEiwASFoVd0DwRc1oKHgmvhoZgVVPJaIYShFCJ19ueyRz86XaqSAtTtfs8Z4ZVRoCK5EQAvD_BwE

And 6 of these risers (extra in case one fails) https://www.ebay.ca/itm/6Kits-USB-3-0-6PIN-PCI-E-Express-1x-to16x-Extender-Riser-Card-Adapter-BTC-Cable/112615526536?hash=item1a38689088:m:mS0-68k751Ba8z2_xxMmuuA

PSU has 3 x 8-Pin (6+2), 3 x 6-Pin PCIE.. So 3 VGA/PCIE cables with 2 connections at each end. Would it be safe to use 2 of those cables to power 4 cards, the other cable to power 2 6pin risers, and then use 2 dual molex to 6pin adapters to power the other 2 risers?

I use USB risers both with Molex and SATA power connectors. My PSUs (SuperFlower Leadex) have 5 periferal outputs and I connect up to 2 risers to the periferal output

Thanks everyone. I am having a fuck of a time finding a PSU (That isn't crazy expensive) that has all the right cable i want. Seems only the super high wattage/expensive ones do. :/

@ op do your self a favor if you live in the usa send me a pm  I have a lot of psu's as I am shifting my gear around.

I can send you much better psu's then the bronze you picked and the warranty will transfer.

and here is a link for a free riser from newegg (after rebate)

All risers are OK and safe but you must check the connections between psu and riser, and this psu are OK too but you must to calculate the 'w'

1060s will be fine using both plugs on one cable. Just avoid using splitters, since you definitely shouldn't need them for that configuration. (Extenders may be desirable.)

Alternatively, you could use a 2x molex to 1x 6-pin PCIe adapter, and just have one PCIe cable from the PSU for the rest of the cards. The cables, as you said, have 2 connectors at each end, but those two connectors aren't spaced far enough on the cable to give you much flexibility with card placement. (You might be limited to about 4 inches between the two cards on the same PCIe power cable, if you go that route.)

A 750W EVGA PSU will probably do the trick for 4x 1060s, under the assumption that you're not doing anything wacky with your CPU/motherboard/drives/fans/etc. (Specify them if you're unsure what I mean.) However, do keep in mind that the BQ series of PSUs is about as low as you can get from EVGA right now. They're *probably* fine, but IIRC, the guts are manufactured by HEC, which isn't quite as reputable as manufacturers such as SuperFlower, Seasonic, FSP, etc.

Also note that a beefier PSU will give you more room for expansion, unless you'd be willing to purchase a second PSU in the future.

SATA risers are okay if you're careful,as leonix007 said, to avoid connecting too many risers to one line of SATA connectors from the PSU. SATA connectors are not rated to handle the same current as the other two, although you can usually push them a little past the official rating (not ideal). However, if you can get 6-pin or molex risers for similar prices, I'd just go ahead and use those. (Unless you're that concerned about needing adapters for your PSU connectors.)

PSU got a decent review from the Guru. But im in no way dead set on using it. I am running to many computer as it is so i was thinking of running these cards from my back up PC. It will be running the 4 cards, 1 SSD and 3 old 2 TB green drives i keep around for back ups. It has 2x 120mm fans and another on the CPU (an old e8400 at stock) cooler. 4 Sticks of DDR2 RAM. Nothing really crazy.. hehe. Too much?

I have a rig consisting of GTX 1060's and I can tell you that running them at 60% Power Limit they will use less than 75 watts each. I have a 6x rig drawing only 450 watts measuring from the wall, so that included the motherboard and PSU. I believe an 8-pin PCIe power cable will handle 150 watts, so you could power two cards from one cable, although one cable for each might be the best setup.

for GTX 1060, Yes, this is possible you can use one cable for 2 Cards. however if you could get 1 is to 1 then better.

They are quiet safe, been using them for a couple months just take note of 1 is to 1 rule connected to PSU cable for the riser

these are good buy, but I prefer 850w PSU, I am just adding extra power as a rule for tolerance.
