ok, so i've unistalled latest drivers. installed 15.12. I've also allocated memory from 16 to 20gb. and i've set intensity to 0 in the claymore's miner.  the temp went way down. it's at 77c. the gpu core is way more stable but it will stil drop from 947 (default). i'm getting 22 smthing mh/s which sucks but if it doesnt freeze it's better than nothing... thx guys, ill let you know if it works (when i get up and see the rig working/frozen).. i dont have my hopes up, though. i think the card may be faulty...

You need to under volt your GPU core. If you use -100 mV in the MSI after burner, it will reduce the power usage by 10-20%.

so i should unistall the latest drivers and download this one? i am indeed using claymore's miner. i will try this before underclocking.

I'm not sure this will fix it but it's worth a shot! Smiley thx

Yes,just keep trying drivers that are recommended.

I use only 1 card per PC,I have LOTS of spare mobo's,CPU's,RAM,PSU's so I only need to buy the vid cards,so the driver I recommend is based on that  Grin

Also I use this miner:

ethereum-mining-windows:

I have never been any good with Linux/Unbuntu sooooo  Sad

The AMD catalyst 15.11 or 15.12 is very good for Etheruem mining, especially if you use the Claymore miners.

94c is very hot.
Try running PC open.
You dont need motherboard BIOS to change powerplay. Download sapphire trixx Software. Underclock core and mem.
Reinstall drivers 15.12 crimson.
What powersupply do you use? All cables connected?

It's an open rig. i've set fan speed to 100% got it to 84-86c. I have the latest drivers. My PSU is an enermax 1600w everything's connected. this only happens to me with this card. runs well a bit but then freezes.

I tried setting gpu clock to 947 which is factory value. but it goes down as I run the miner. I think I will try to underclock it to 800 tomorrow when i put it in the rig again. I will also try to set miner insentity lower.

thank you

Can you undervoltage it. If you reduce the voltage by 10%, the power consumption will go down 20%.

Hey, I bought a used XFX R9 290 for mining and set it up in my rig but it gives me a bsod error and crashes the computer. the card heats up a bit (94) but i think this is normal for this card. I have searched through google for a solution and found many people seem to have this problem outside of mining. I came to the conclusion that it may be because of the powerplay function which has problems with pcie 2.0, i believe.

I think I will turn it off and i have also read this may fix it:

"I went into my motherboard bios and set the VCCSA to 1.1V. Then set my MSI Afterburner to Power Limit -5% (yes, that is MINUS 5%) and my memory clock to 1200MHz (slight downclock from 1250MHz)."

 any toughts? thank you.
