beta 9.5 drivers are better. sgminer 4.1 zuikkis kernel is better as well. You also HAVE to use msi afterburner with a +25-50 mv offset with the tri-x to get them stable.

Awesome tips, I'll try those as well!

--> +25 mv offset increased my WU several %!!! Thanks!

Hey guys! If you have recently setup an R9 290 based rig and have been having a lot of issues with black screen, blue screen, HW error, low kh/s, low WU, and instances where connecting your second, third or fourth GPU suddenly prevents windows from booting, these few tips might help you!

Tips:
*Use the AMD 13.12 GPU Drivers

*Flash update your Motherboard BIOS (especially if 2nd, 3rd or 4th GPU isn’t being recognized or causing windows not to boot properly).

*Plug your HDMI display cable into the GPU that is located in the PCIE slot recommended in your motherboard manual, for my motherboard, that was the PCIE_2 slot (especially if your display won’t turn on after inserting additional GPU’s)

*Set your GPU core to 1000 and memory to 1250 before trying higher clocks (especially if your computer black screens, starts having lines run across it or, flickers)

*Use Cgminer 3.7.3 Kalroth!!! (It really just seems to work better with these cards)

Here is my new system “Medusa” running 3 R9 290 Tri-x oc cards on Windows 8.1.

My settings as pictured above:
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://us.clevermining.com:3333 -u 1MWhbZ8CwWbh4jgjw8BeYaCLeUTJ46DAX2 -p 123 -g 1 -w 512 --lookup-gap 2 --thread-concurrency 24500 -I 20 --auto-fan --gpu-engine 1000 --gpu-memclock 1250 --gpu-powertune 20

Specs:
3x R9 290 Sapphire TRI-X OC  GPU
ASRock 970EX4 Mobo
Raidmax 1200w PSU
AMD Sempron 145 CPU
8gb G-skill Ripjaw RAM

Hopefully this will help point some of you guys in the right direction who, like myself, have been having issues with the R9 290’s. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions or if you have any additional tips!
