Or better, there are new projects that are being created which is better than them.
Yes, you also have a point about them suddenly being forgotten. It should've been not like that.
Well, that relies on the management too.
If they can keep on offering the public what suits them then, it won't be the same ending.

So far only bitcoin and ethereum maintained their positions for many years now, the thing is apart from their use cases these two coins they have all the loves around the world, they are well supported compared to other crypto projects, more popular too so its going to be extremely difficult for any new project to overtake them

You know why they rank down and doesn't give much attention to them? Because they were left behind by devs itself. No progress and the project seems not contributed any use, no development and just created for a short term benefits of the team.

If you'll noticed those who are at the top 20 altcoins have a good progress, they are upgrading their project, have a good partnership, etc. In other words, if a project is continuously growing , expanding then it will gonna survive in the crypto market in the long run.

Once upon a time primecoin, peercoin and blackcoin are all top altcoins in early 2015/2016, they just vanished from the top ranks like nothing happened, this have been a good lesson for me, not all those altcoins that are on top 10 rank will maintain the position forever, so all of you rejoicing that few altcoins are taking over top 10 ranks I think you should know, a coin in 3th rank on coinmarketcap today can go back to 15th rank tomorrow.
Obviously, those coins you have mentioned have been either abandoned by the developer or didn't get the support of the community that time that's why they simply vanished. And the timing though, it was too early, no more hype like ICO back then, (which came in 2017), so I would say that the growth of those coins are very slow. And I would agree that altcoin market is very volatile, coins come and go and we might see some changing of the guards sort of in the next 2-3 years.

At first place, who in the hell said that ranks are permanent in crypto space??

We've seen numerous coins at the top but they are slowly going down in terms of market cap because newer and better coins are being created and more people are engaging thru it and buying it. We've seen DOT in the top 10 in an instant. A coin that came out of nowhere and now it is on the top 10 in terms of Market Cap. Another are Uniswap, AAVE and SUSHI. Those are DeFi yes but they play a big role right now and may people are supporting the coin thus their rank rise.

Dogecoin was in the top 10 just a few days ago. Anything can happen. Sometimes the market behaves irrationally and sometimes coins get displaced by much better projects. Outside of Bitcoin and ETH it's mostly been a revolving door. New projects rely mostly on hype and speculation which is why we see constant changes in the rankings.

Volatility is the main reason why the rank on crypto will never be permanent. Sometimes the coin will be getting a lot of traction and then it will be leaving by a lot of people to catch the new trend again.
We have seen how defi was so crazy a few months ago. This time the defi coin like YFI just like a forgotten coin.
people are so crazy generating the profit from the market anytime. Crypto rank will always be changed.

This especially happens for punk and dump coins. XRP, Doge etc. frequently go up and down the rankings whenever a pump and dump occurs. A coin which is pumped could easily rise to the top 10 coins for a while then once it gets dumped and the volume goes down, it loses its rank as well. You shouldn't just look into a coin's rank because of this very fact. What we could do, however, is utilize the rankings to determine which have good potential and "ride the wave" so to speak in order to gain profit in this bull market. I think many coins from the ICO era where taken over most DEFI coins now, such as TRON. Coin ranking is just one of the many factors that one can look into. Who knows, a coin could actually replace Bitcoin as number 1?

The rank was following the trend. Sometime when the native coin becomes the trend and people are moving from the smartcontract coins to the native coin and the same thing will be happening again when the trend gets changed. People are massively moving from one to another trend. The crypto community is dynamic and it was following the trend.
it will never be static and that gives a change to the rank on CMC. it will be moving anytime.

It is more easily to climb up to the top positions of coinmarketcap years ago as in the past, there were less altcoins in the market than now. In the current market, with more than 3000 of altcoins, it requires a huge capital to a new project in order to help it climbs up to top 100, 50 or 20.

Investors are more wisely to choose coin and accept price of it. They don't easily accept high price if a coin has huge total supply. You can see Dogecoin that had a x7 rise weeks ago and it did not take the 3rd position. Dogecoin has huge supply and its price is low, x7 but price is still very low.

Lastly, ranks won't be changed from 3rd to 15th in a few days, moves up or falls down, it would take months to complete that progress.

You are right that ranks can not a survival mark that this project will not die in next years.

It's hard to maintain the rank when there are new concepts coming with more use cases. The competition is getting harsher that every developer wants to kill ETH or wants to create a better exchange but they didn't saw what was coming. It's the Defi.

I use to just hold the tokens like TRX, EOS, and Ontology because all these tokens are among the top ones but there's slow climb and Defi stole the show. It's going to be surprising what could surface on top in the next few years, i hope it's not the CBDC stablecoins.

Sadly true. LTC was in 4th place for a few minutes couple of weeks ago but sadly now they are sitting at 8th place. So, nothing is permanent here without the place of BTC. The way people are bullish on DOT, I think someday that will replace ETH or something good will be there.

Very exact and on point.

We will never know until the altcoins high ranking status will stay. They can be replaced by any other altcoin for the next years to come and go back to the low rank in the future.

It is not all the time that they will remain at the top rank. But there will be those altcoins that are consistent and will stay there for a long time if not forever.

the point is there isn't a permanent position? yes I think everyone believes that over time the shift to digital sophistication and new innovations in the development of Blockchain will change. but that doesn't mean that rank 10 is safe, it just has some power for the time being. We do not deny it, in terms of digital cryptocurrency, new innovations are always born

Of course I believe that can happen, because every year there are definitely new project and of the many new project that exist, then there are definitely some project that have really good idea and useful for the future, so that the new project has the opportunity to replace the position (ranking) of the old project if the new project is better and more useful than the old project, therefore the ranking in cryptocurrency can change at any time, because the best will definitely be at the top and the bad will definitely be at the bottom.

Those coins lose ranks to better or well developed projects, this is normal and can happen to any crypto projects, it's why I think that Ethereum can be the first some day or even lose its second position to another coin, it's 100% possible, my advice is always take profits when they are available, there is no certainty in crypto space, anything is bound to happen

We have TRON, EOS, ONTOLOGY, a few years ago on top 10 CMC but with the goes of time and these coins have been kicked out from the top 10 CMC as the trend was moving toward the new project.
Anything can happen in the crypto market and it doesn't mean the top coin will be last forever accept bitcoin. It doesn't mean bitcoin will always be the number 1. Ethereum can even replace bitcoin a few years ago.

Crypto is about how well you can take the momentum. This will make you can defend your position.
