The amount of ransom is still unknown but it seems that the privacy parameter associated with the cryptocurrencies are only helping such miscreants. It's indeed sad to see crypto's involvement with such illegal incidents.
The black hat will always find ways to hide their tracks and some find crypto as the solution to mask their identity without much headache, the hackers are mocking the IT firms because of their lack of security because they usually charge money to safe guard other business in the form of security Grin,  till now Maze attackers have demanded millions.
No idea what the server admin is doing in these big organizations as they are not able to sort the situation and i bet they were not able to sort the issue swiftly and so is the reason the incident is public.

Well it is really disheartening that proves that, no system is perfect nor fully secured. I'm quite afraid that news like this will affect the views of the mass towards technology making them think that it is not safe from anything in here. But I've read that "MAZE", cognizant's prime suspect for the ransomware hasn't saying anything or discussing any thing with them, In fact they denied that the attack was made by them, looks like it will be a good battle from both ends.

There is trouble abrewing
what is really sad is the fact that a company referred to as "large" or "top tier" which isn't in some irrelevant field but in the field of IT is being infected by something as simple as this malware and are the effects is considerably large enough to cause disruption in their whole system.

Cognizant, one of the largest tech and consulting companies in the Fortune 500, has confirmed it was hit by a ransomware attack.

Cognizant spokesperson Richard Lacroix said,

“Cognizant can confirm that a security incident involving our internal systems, and causing service disruptions for some of our clients, is the result of a Maze ransomware attack.” Our internal security teams, supplemented by leading cyber defense firms, are actively taking steps to contain this incident.”

Now they have engaged the related Law Enforcement agencies to find a remediation. Read more below,
