I enjoy gambling a little here and there. Initially that is how I looked at these schemes.

The reality is that they are a cancer in the community. The vast majority will end up turning out to be scams.
The others, operating legitimately as they may be - encourage it. People will point to the good guys when defending the bad.

It also makes it very hard to croudfund real projects, as people prefer to go after these larger returns, even in the face of ridiculous risk.
