And an older backup from last year did not work , it was missing a lot of my coins so it has to be a newer backup.
If you have not imported keys into your wallet, then an old backup should be as good as a new backup. The backup contains the seed that generates an (almost) infinite sequence of keys. The only thing that can go wrong is that Armory does not notice that you have used addresses pretty far down that list of keys, so after you restore you may need to manually ask Armory to generate another 1000 keys before Armory finds the later transactions.EDIT: That sounded like you had do manually generate a key 1000 times. You do not, of course, you ask for 1000 keys at once (fortunately).
