Oh, I read about it. There are some information that 79xx-77xx will be CGN, and 76xx-73xx will be Evergreen (on 40 nm). I hope that's not true.

that's the 7970 with the new architecture, the 78xx cards are meant to have the old architecture so will see a much bigger increase.

Maybe not.  There are now some conflicting reports (and some driver diving) which indicates the 78xx will be CGN also.  Only the ultra low end will be same architecture as 6000 series.  Sad

Some sites are saying one thing, some are saying another.  Honestly although it sucks it does make more sense for all mainstream cards to be CGN and the low end to keep old architecture to save money (and drive sales of higher pricepoint units).  The 78xx won't launch until late Febuary so it may be some time till we know for sure.

Yes, 78xx should have around 2x advantage per watt over 6xxx. And looks like, 78xx will remain the most energy efficient video card for SHA256, up until 9xxx series. 8xxx, I suppose, will be something like CGN2 (maybe with even worse performance per transistor for SHA256) on 28 nm, similar to 5xxx/6xxx.

I think that increasing SHA256/mm² will be the same as increasing SHA256/W, or close to it.
Not so good, I was expecting at least 2x improvement.

Legen -wait for it- dary
And a significant drop in power consumption, and cooler temps.

Look not so good:

only 1.5x increase in SHA256, per mm², with around 2x increase in transistors.
