I just hate trolls.

Do trolls still live under the bridge?    Grin

You can bet if there's a troll out there somewhere without a bridge, there's a shill out there trying to sell him one.

The question is, when you get two commenters who have opposite points of view, and who continually stand up for their opinions by posting many times in response to each other, are they trolls? If they are, which one is, or are they both for simply expressing their points of view in a strong way?

Smiley

There's a difference between having a difference of opinion and straight up trolling, though it is hard to tell the difference sometimes. A troll purposely posts controversial opinions to rile people up and are probably not their own personal beliefs.

This^

Does anyone have any evidence of any of them being paid to do it? Who hypothetically would pay for such a service?

Or is it all just for sport?

People who don't know the difference between trolls and just general psychopaths shouldn't be on the fucking internet they start realising it. Getting fed up of these useless people who come onto the internet not knowing a thing and acting like they're experts.

Yes, you guys are right, basically there are these stupid fuckers who think that somebody even disagreeing with them is trolling, which shows just how blatantly arrogant they are.

Trolls have been around forever.  In the precursor to the World Wide Web there were places called "flame boards" specifically for these people.

Trolls: All your logic are belong to us.

I found the connection between lulz and sadism particularly disturbing.

Quote
"Sadism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism scores were positively correlated with self-reported enjoyment of trolling," write the researchers.

That's because the true troll has a lot more of the sadist hidden deep inside than you do, gentle reader—at least according to a new study, "Trolls just want to have fun," which appeared in the academic journal Personal and Individual Differences. The Canadian researchers behind the study conclude that "online trolls are prototypical everyday sadists... For those with sadistic personalities, [their] ideal self may be a villain of chaos and mayhem—the online Trickster we fear, envy, and love to hate: the cyber-troll."

It's just a job. We all have to make money somehow.

Yeah, I don't like the parking ticket lady nor the governmental agency she works for, but I'm not going to call her a loser.

I took this job not because I actually dislike bitcoin, but because I'm good at using the internet and need to pay rent. It really gets under my skin when people insult me for that.

Sorry that I have to feed my family. If helping to suppress/dissuading people to use some random crypto currency thing is going to help, then fine, my family comes first regardless of my personal views on the matter.

Well wikipedia has a good definition:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll

In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[3]

Not to get too conspiratorial but I reckon there are paid shills on this forum. Maybe some from the gov or banks who are employed to spread fud. I believe some governments have paid people to cause problems before. Just google paid internet trolls.

There are likely many different trolls here for many different reasons. Some financial and some are just sad losers who don't have anything better to do but (try) annoy people on the internet. They then get their kicks when people react.

Come on you guys. Trolls are good for us. They often bring to light points that we wouldn't have thought of otherwise. The biggest point that they bring to light is that they show us how much strength of belief and commitment we have in the things we say. If we don't have the desire to shoot down a troll, why do we even post in the first place? In that case, get a free website and start a blog that nobody will ever look at.

Nobody ever agrees 100% with anyone else. Part of the reason for this is that nobody can get into the complete thinking of anyone else.

Regular forum members, borderline trolls, and real trolls are all there to discuss. The stupid trolls can be bypassed easily, because they show that don't know anything simply by their language.

The smart trolls bring up good points that need investigation. People can find out if their ideas are right or wrong, simply by listening and examining what a smart troll has to say.

Borderline trolls are standard members who are fighting so hard for points that they believe, that they troll a bit in their fight.

It is a forum.

To answer your question

1. Because they can?

2. They are off their meds?

3. They think you are evil and must die?

4. They are posting from the day room of the Asylum?

5. Because they have been ripped off and want to save the world?

6. Because they are competing against whatever they are bashing?
