Ok - I've been a fan of Smarterhash from the beginning, despite my differences with the developer.

But now I received an email from Smarterhash talking about V2 -- and in the process my email address along with 34 other subscribers (I assume) was exposed.

Have you heard of BCC?

This is not cool at all and very amateur.

You are right - that was my mistake and I apologize for that.

and yes - I have always used BCC in the past and this time I make a mistake.

my apologies to all on this list.

#1 - why would you create a new thread just to blurt this out, if you don't want anyone to know that you're on the list so they can get your sacred email address?

#2 - why wouldn't you just reply to the email pointing out the error..  I've emailed about issues with smarterhash a few times and had quick results.

#3 - why would you start a new thread for this hoping/assuming that he does a search for smarterhash every day, instead of posting something on a thread you know he monitors?

The only people that got that email, is other people that also paid for the service, who would most likely be inclined to simply ignore the fact that it was sent as CC instead of BCC.  Yet you go and shout it out for whoever might be interested in listening.

You really don't make sense posting like this about an issue, unless you have some sort of ulterior motive.  Got plans to sell the names on the list or something?

I dont think its a huge deal , its not like its your SSN or something.  People can extract emails from forums if they really want to get your adress

Your email... As in real email that you personally identify yourself with, in public? That was your choice.

If not, no big deal. Make a new email and move on.

Call it what you want -- it is a security breach and it is very amateurish.  I'm sure the other 30+ people aren't that thrilled about it either.

This isn't some service that you purchase secretly with Bitcoin.  It is a service that probably all bought with Paypal (for the chargeback security).
