Topic: Really stupid ICOs. The ones that make you say: what the fork (Read 268 times)
It's hilarious what people are coming up with. I've seen ICO's targeting the porn industry, drone's as you mentioned, shipping and anything other crazy (mostly social media applications that make no sense, linkedin rip-offs etc.) and I usually have a good laugh myself. It's a good way to know actually if a project is any good or no, in that cases you know it's too ridiculous to work and that's a good indicator of not putting your money into it. I wonder if anyone is investing in such projects at the first place, but wait, I can simply check the blockchain and really see that people are indeed investing in that garbage. It's not my money so everyone can do with his as he wishes, but don't come back on the forum crying that you lost everything if you invested in a "sustainable water coin" or something similar to that.
Someone just posted a link to an ICO whose 'tech' section was this (whitepaper released post airdrop):

There are just some whacked ICOs that on the spot, you will know this is not going anywhere. I really do wonder how they come up with those sort of crazy unrealistic ideas that obviously would not even fly and then you still see investors contributing largely to these guys and that is even what perturbs me the most. I cannot even say the number of such ICOs that I have seen but I guess everyone now wants to start an ICO. logarithm -

been browsing some ICO, and I came accross:
"Teleport: The Global Platform for Drone Coverage"
I couldn't help but laugh really hard and then thought, how stupid must you be to think tokens in "drone coverage" will ever bring you any profit. It felt so bizzare I felt I needed to create this thread.

PS: I'm not trying to bash the specific ICO, but it was ana cute reaction I experienced.
ICO's aren't that needed for the price of Bitcoin to go up because there is not much people that can purchase things that have nothing of value."Teleport: The Global Platform for Drone Coverage"

PS: I'm not trying to bash the specific ICO, but it was ana cute reaction I experienced.
My worst investment till now has been in into OPUS. A bunch of school goers hired a freelancer and made an really impressive alpha which kinda hyped the ICO. Only if i was aware about the dev being a freelancer i would have saved my 10ETH. No updates at github since the end of ICO.
As much as I loved that OPUS idea, it was the team that messed it up and made me not to go ahead. After doing a lot of research, I noticed they had no huge experience and in as much as the project sounded good, I was not just comfortable leaving my funds with them and I guess I was right.Noticed they are still in the market anyway without much development and the value has just been hovering for a while, but we can never really say, anything can still happen in future,which you might get lucky. So, you can still hold since I have seen so many projects like this before.
Just o be clear, don't post scams here, just ideas that sound so stupid that a kidnergartner with 5 minutes during a switch between LEGOs and afternoon meal coudl create a better idea than the developer team.

I have noticed new ICOs bring no new technology whatsoever, just choose some very niche market (increasingly bizzare it would seem), seet up a website and a marketing team and begin the crodfunding campaign.
