A self-moderated topic has this warning on top:

This is a self-moderated topic. If you do not want to be moderated by the person who started this topic, create a new topic.
If you could change a thread into self-moderation later on, it wouldn't be fair for the users who don't want to be moderated by you.
An easy solution is to create a new thread, place a link in the old thread, and lock it.

This is right, and this is also a good a solution.
I think that's specially important in campaigns and bounties, because sometimes spammers just decide to spam in a certain topic for no reason, applying with multiple alts in a campaign.

I think I will start most of them self-moderated from now on, but I started one on the Gambling Section and soon after I realized that I had forgotten to create it self-moderated. I tried to delete it to create the same one new but self-moderated (there weren’t any replies), but I couldn’t. It is not allowed to delete posts so fast on that section.

It is too soon to create a new one with a new to the old one, but thanks for the advice, I may use it in the future.

A self-moderated topic has this warning on top:
New thread
After 11 months, 13 pages and more than 9000 views I've closed Pretty Addy Giveaway and re-opened this self-moderated thread. Now I don't have to facilitate "I don't understand"-posts spamming the forum. Questions are welcome of course, but not from people who don't bother to read this.

Since then, I start almost all my threads self-moderated.

Topics cannot be converted to self-moderated topics after creation.

Is that because of technical reasons or what? I sometimes forget to make my posts self-moderated and I think it would be a good improvement.

P.S: I was going to reply in the original post but a message said that I should consider opening a new one.
