What caused the two drops around February? That's all I'm missing.
It looks like it was between the TradeHill shutdown and the Linode Hack

While cause & effect are not always perfectly related, my belief is that there were a few people that couldn't wait any longer to cash out their bitcoin position which had been purchased for cheap in November for $2 / BTC.  They likely were hoping for additional upside following the Good Wife Episode and when things started to retract from $7 / BTC, they finally decided to capitalize on doubling their money.

I'm thinking there were two waves associated with that, and now we're back to equilibrium until the next new wave of investors start buying up bitcoins.... and based on the past 24 hours, it looks like they might have arrived!

Another broker bites the dust:

WorldBitcoinExchange.com (Australia) has suspended trading and is allegedly returning customer funds however we are all still waiting.

How big of an exchange was that?  (this is the first I've heard of it)

Why is it shutting down/suspending trading?

Is it the govt?  or is it just incompetent/scammish?

it's the incompetent/scammish govt.

March Madness Brackets run with bitcoins! Established March 11, 2012

I think someone is keeping track of the number of websites that accept bitcoin for goods & services.

That count went down for the first month in February 2012.  Not a good piece of info, but hopefully it was only due to cleaning up failed sites or duplicates in the listing.

Hopefully, it keeps going up in the future.

awesome lol ^^

News about bitcoin (mainly bad news, but still) have hit Reddit and HackerNews front pages several times. More traffic than Slashdot at the moment.

Must have dates.
You don't have to go back paste the MtGox Hack
