Backing up the entire partition would be the ideal yes I'll look at those tools as yes its qualcomm chip, I do know someone very good on linux systems and also possibly android too so I might ask them.   Any solution I attempt encounters errors unfortunately, though I now have saved .abu files that apparently will contain both the app and its data.  .abu is exclusive to asus I guess and also very old, not sure I can be sure I can use them to restore so easily on a different phone.
The wallet was Imtoken 1.5 and I did empty it because this phone was never too reliable but made the mistake of using it a bit and having a balance on it.   I swear I had the phrase for it and password written but Ive been distracted and lost/not able to go that route so far, so its all hypothetical on me eventually remembering that password.   Another reminder for people do keep your unique phrase handy, written in a book or something big solid not an envelope or paper whatever crap I wrote it on.

If you unlock bootloader normal way, all data in phone will be lost.
if your device is qualcomm use any edl base tool or emmc, isp dumping method to backup data partition.
once you have working data partition you can extract it with ext4 extractor or others and check in /data/data/de.schildbach.wallet/ for backup seed or wallet files. "de.schildbach.wallet" reference is from op which use this wallet if you used same path is same.
android 4.x don't use data encryption so once you have backup may have your wallet data.. no idea if wallet is encrypted de.schildbach.wallet don't use any encryption on wallet so far i can see.

Block halving is coming.
So you want to backup your system and data through TWRP you can only install it if your PadFone is fully rooted and it must be bootloader unlocked if it has a bootloader locked.

Rooting a phone or this tab is risky there is sometimes the system becomes corrupted and ends up wiping the whole data to recover your Tabfone. I do not recommend this but if you still want I search a bit and it seems there is a guide for this unit.

Check this link https://tweakdroid.com/root/asus-the-new-padfone-infinity-a86-padfone-t004-a86/

My suggestion is if you have crypto apps and wallets there that you want to backup I think it would be better if you transfer or send them to a new wallet for safety.

Or for safety backup you can try to backup apps and data through the ADB command you can enable the developer option under about and backup them through PC with ADB command.
Check this link on how to do it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEyIWHLL2Is

PadFone T004 it reads as, never updated.  I only had it as it was never reliable so was just a spare free phone.  Unfortunately I got complacent, its still showing the root directory contents but not sure thats enough to later recover anything I need.   Physically the battery is now round not flat, I found Fonepaw for Android but the amount of errors the phone gives in operation is not letting it connect so far.
Looks like the one in this link: https://www.getdroidtips.com/twrp-recovery-asus-padfone/

I dont often mess about with phones or I'd be slightly more familiar.  I did notice I had in the Asus settings set backup to a gmail address which I still have control of, I wouldnt expect that is going to help me with restoring an app with all its data later

Does anyone know off hand which would be the best PC based software to clone a phone drive so it can be virtually hosted later.  I know PC allows this but phones are more picky and obviously its a different operating system.   Something I should already know, Im searching now just thought I'd ask here as no doubt people repeatedly lose unique crypto related data this way unfortunately.

What exactly is the unit model of your phone and the exact problem of your phone? Maybe the issue can be repaired easily?

I don't know if there is free software that you can clone phone but I know there are many tools out there that you can dump the whole data including firmware, system, and data files.
Those tools are EMMC tools but you can only have these tools if you have a jtag box and tools you should have tech knowledge about this because you will need to disassemble the unit to jump connection directly to EMMC where your Nand IC and data storage are located.

I have that same phone, I know this is an old thread but its entirely relevant to what Im trying to do.  The phone is on its way out, I just want to duplicate it and no normal data like documents matters only this kind of program data so I can recover it and go through it later.  The physical phone itself is falling to bits, I guess mobiles do this regularly without any/much provocation.

I think this is just a firmware backup that includes only the important file like photos and messages. There's no way to recover it because you just backup the firmware that you can able to reflash in other same model..
Even you have the backup firmware its still impossible to recover your wallet because if you backup your android you can backup the important files like images and messages.. Not included installed apps data or system files..

But if you do this https://gist.github.com/haraldh/ebe3a6b790ee6a2e6d4bbee0edebfcc4
before until 4 step not included under step 5 (electron cash) you can recover it in other wallet if you got the seeds or private key you have a chance to recover your bitcoin wallet..
If you don't have them both its impossible to get your wallet back.

If you had a wallet backup file we could probably help, but it seems you only have a system backup that was created using an Asus proprietary tool Undecided

What you need is a way to extract the wallet data from that backup image. Maybe you'd have better luck on the XDA Forums? There is a section dedicated to Asus Padfone 2: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/padfone-2

If Asus tech support are no use in helping to extract the data, perhaps someone there might be able to assist...

Bitcoin Client Software and Version Number: Schildbach Wallet 4.12 (2014)

Operating System: Android 4.1

System Hardware Specs: Asus Padfone 2 (now rooted and unlocked bootloader)

Description of Problem: I had a wallet on my old Asus Padfone 2, using the Schildbach app. I lost it during an upgrade from Jelly Bean (most likely 4.3, but might be 4.1) to KitKat (4.4), in which most program settings were reset. I had a backup made with Asus PC Tool prior to the OS upgrade, but were unable to restore the application data. I had contact with Asus tech support back then, and they said I could not restore program data made in backups of older versions of Android OS to KitKat. A little later, my Padfone 2 died because of broken charging port and faulty battery. This happened in late 2014. I've kept the backup since then, which consists of around 11k files with uuid type filenames, totally around 900 MB. I managed to get another Asus phone (slightly newer) on second hand market, and I was able to restore the backup to the phone using my old version of Asus PC TOOL (1.0.0.6). However, it did just restore photos, contacts and text messages, but not the valuable stuff.
The phone is a Zenfone 4 (not the recent model, a budget model with same name from 2014), running Kitkat. I did also try installing a very old version of the wallet (4.12 from 2014) and run the restore process again, but it still didn't restore the data. A few days ago, I were also able to resurrect my old Padfone 2, and installed Android 4.1 by sideloading it from TWRP recovery. Asus PC Tool discovers the phone, but for some reason it is just able to backup, but not restore as on the Zenfone 4. How good are my chances to actually recover the wallet? Very grateful for any help.
